I contacted JVC Canada my projector would not turn on last Friday and was told to purchase a new bulb. I explained that there has been issues with the lens door opening and that the main fan didn't click on the day the everything went dark. I was asked to bring it to the closest or only service center in Ontario. The service center was fantastic had a report back to me in less then 24HR that they fixed the door but the problem is still the lamp. It had 800HRs use and died, I am not sure but I think I have only watched a 3D movie less then 15 times but I only thought i had a few hundred hours on the projector. I have emailed JVC Canada to see if they are willing to help with the lamp replacement since it is a 1st generation bulb and have not heard anything yet.

so RS40 -- 800HRS Dead Lamp

Will let you know if JVC is willing to help me out later.

JVC replaced two of mine under warranty--each died at ~400 hours. Whether or not JVC will continue to do this, I don't know. They are probably about ready to wash their hands of this projector at this point. There absolutely should have been a recall.

When you do get a new lamp, make sure to run the projector on the high altitude setting, I believe it has made a real difference on my current bulb.

Thank you for this thread! I was considering buying a refurb RS40 instead of an entry level PJ like the BenQ W-1070, but after reading about these horrible experiences with this expensive projector, I think I'll stick with entry level. So thanks again.

Are the units still having lamp issue even after the lamps? If not you would think that the price of the lamps would go dowm.

The final generation of lamps for these projector (the 003 with the flapper) came out over 16 months ago and it appears they are fairly reliable.

My current 003 lamp with flapper has 900+ hours and has dimmed at a normal rate. So, just make sure you get the latest 003 lamp with flapper.

Mike now are the 003's holding up? I posted in another thread about my concern about my rs40 and having an ongoing lamp issue. Got my rs40 through avs bstock and had an 002 lamp die at 450 hours. Avs replaced it with an 003 and it is just at 400 hours. Trying to decide to upgrade or stay with the 40 until newer technologies arrive. I'm not looking for a performance upgrade as the 40 is excellent. Just concerned about reliability of the 003 lamps and wondering what you guys have experienced with them.

Mike - Didn't the first 003 lamps not have the flapper then the flapper was added to an updated 003 version that JVC began shipping around late March 2012. I talked to JVC service dept. in the first week or two of March and was advised to wait a couple of weeks to request a replacement as there was an updated version on the way (I received a 003 w/flapper in early April). Perhaps new JVC projectors came with the flapper version already installed a little earlier than the individual lamps offered as replacements..

My X3 has the 003 bulb. The only issue I have with it is that it takes about 1.5 hour for projector to warm up. The image seems to stabilize after that.

I think you are correct. The flapper was not on the first few 03 lamps. That means there is more to an 03 than just the flapper, but I do not know the other changes.

Hello,

Sorry for re-opening this one. My RS60 died last night with no fan noise and the lamp will not light. It had less than 1,000 hours.

I ordered a new one, but took the old lamp out of the assembly to check it. The code on it shows the 002 version. One of the power leads was connected to the bulb with a screw, but the other one (at the end of the bulb) seemed to just be threaded through a small hole and the wire just twisted. Is this how that version of the bulb is put together? I have seen a lot of the bulbs using screws for both leads.

Thanks.
