JVC spec. for max. lumens are the same for the X3 and X30 and my discussions with JVC reps at CEDIA indicated that in 2D there would at most be a slight increase for the X30/RS45 as compared to X3/RS40. However 3D should be a little better when used with the new JVC 3D glasses as compared to the X3 with the old 3D glasses. The most significant brightness improvements are for the the X7-->X70 and the X9-->X90 (same for RS50-->RS55 and RS60-->RS65) where the light engine has been changed to use a fixed color correction filter with less light loss than last year's models. The X3 and RS40 did not have this filter and as a result they had higher light output (perhaps on the order of 20% or more). It is claimed that the X70/X90/RS55/RS65 should now be within 10% of the lumens output of the X3/X30/RS40/RS45.

I suspect any real visible difference in a comparison of the X3 or RS40 to a X30 or RS45 as for lumens output will be more related to bulb-to-bulb variations and slight variations in an individual projector's performance.

Just been trying a ps3 game which looked bad for crosstalk on the x3. Wipeout 3d ... It seems to look more 3d this time around, and less crosstalk ! Again moving the parallax setting reduced it furthur without reducing 3d in my eyes.

Art over at Projector Central watches a scene like a football going across the screen in 3D and I believe has seen flicker(football disappears for a few frames) on all 3D projectors.
Watching an object that moves around the screen may help expose 3D flicker.

I finally watched a 3D movie last night.
Got hold of a copy of Pirates of the Caribbean/ On Stranger Tides

Being a relative newbie when it comes to 3D being my first 3D projector, I was quite impressed with the 3D effect.

There were no issues with the picture quality once your eyes got used to the 3D effect.

Haven't had much time to mess around with the display settings.

I did notice the fan noise (projector is temporarily on a stand just behind my head) when the bulb was by default set on high mode during 3D picture profile.
When I changed the fan to 'normal' it was totally quiet although the picture was predictably a little darker but still usable.

Overall, I am very pleased with the X30!
Now I just have to go out and pick up more 3D movies LOL!

Great!! I am happy to hear that when viewing a TRUE native 3D movie the experience is much better that first thought (when you experimented on the 2D>3D feature). How much, if any, ghosting/anomalies did you notice?

thanks

I did not experience any ghosting/anomalies!

Other than the very slight dimming of the image, there was not much distracting that took away the movie experience.

ripley;

I was wondering if you could tell me if the 4-way masking settings are also part of the lens memory presets.

Thanks DavidM5, that's very encourageing!! Can't wait to have mine all set up. Don't forget to keep us updated as you acquire more 3D movies. BTW, since you are a fellow Canadian in Toronto, if you are looking for great pricing on 3D titles, you should check out the Pickering flea market. There is a dealer who has unbeatable prices on most 3D Blu Ray.

Cheers

Dont get to excited over 1 movie not showing much ghosting. Ghosting can vary wildly from one title to the next depending on how that particular title challenges the projector. Throw in something like Dinosaurs Giants of Patagonia and lets see what kind of ghosting we get.

I know this is slightly off topic but what are the top 10 3D blurays I should go out and pick up?

I am looking for blurays which have outstanding 3d 'effects'.

in the Sony thread, there is one that looks really good called "A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventure". You can find it in Amazon UK site for about 10 pounds, so about $20 US shipped.
Otherwise, Avatar 3D (although it is not sold separately), Cars 2 and Toy Story 3.

I have asked this in the RS55 thread, but I am trying to pre-setup my harmony remote.. but I can't find RS45/55/65 or X30/70/90 in the database. Do they use the same remote code as in 40/50/60 (X3/X7/X9)??

From a price standpoint Rio got very good reviews. Not sure if the movie is worth watching but at 17.99 on Amazon and BB it's not a bad choice.

David,

When you watch the projector in 3D do you have to watch it with the lamp in High mode or can it be watched in normal mode? Just curious since I have a Dalite HP screen and I typically watch everything on normal mode on my RS2 clone now.

I have read every post in this thread so far and there was a lot of talk about street price...I live in Canada, and the information was useful. Since when does AVS forum allow street price discussion? I wouldnt want such an interesting thread to get closed...

The lens memory feature I really want. I wonder how accurate it is. on the sony VW95 it seems to be very approximate, to say the least.

DID WE JUST HEAR THAT 3d STILL TAKES 30 MINUTES OF BULB WARMING UP?? Looks like the RS45 IS A REBADGED rs40. Ill wait for a full calibration from a few of you guys before I jump on the Sony bandwagon.

And if bulb dimming and bulb explosions occur at around <500 hours.

Please only use the term rebadged if that is actually what it is. Since the RS45 adds lens memory among other features, it is not a rebadge of the RS40. If you want to say it sounds like a tweaked RS40, then that's fine. I'm just sick of the term rebadged being thrown around by people that don't seem to understand what it means.

Correct ghosting is still there but like I said earlier it doesnt look as bad on the x30 vs the x3.

Yes correct, from what I have tested. You certainly cant just pop a 3d movie in and watch straight away.

Anyone noticed this contrast and lumen table has been updated from homecinema-fr.com?
It shows the x30/RS45 clocking in around 64,900:1 and brightness at D65 eco mode at 930 lumens, D65 on high lamp at 1370 lumens! If this is true..WOW it surpasses the RS40 by quite a bit in contrast and brightness.
That's more than double the contrast from last year's model. The x70 more than doubled its contrast as well.

Now my question is:

In short/normal/iris-closed condition:
X30 - ?? lumens and 57300:1 contrast
X70 - 240 lumens and 61300:1 contrast

website does not specify lumens for X30 in this condition.. but given the irs-open for X30 is at 910 lumens (compared to 640 lumens in X70), I can safely assume X30 is at least 40% bright than X70. .giving it about 340 lumens.
The contrast ratio between 57k and 61k is negligible as measurement error can easily sway one to another. However, lumens usually is a lot more accurate.. so 40% more lumens at almost the same contrast ratio at half the price?? What gives??
Now X70 do have e-shift so there is probably some advantage. Assuming I have a Lumagen, then maybe the CMS in X70 is not that important to me. Should I go for RS45 instead??? Hmm...
