Art was kind enough to respond to my email. It sounds as if he has requested a unit and is waiting to hear back from Sharp. Hopefully they'll send one his way.

I just sent an email to Mike from AVScience. He said he'd try to find out some info for us.

The specsheet just popped up at Sharp's Canada site.

http://files.sharp.ca/Downloads/ForH...eet_Eng_V2.pdf

Interestingly enough, it actually lists the .65 DMD chip. Rarely do DLP manufacturers list the dlp chip. A couple of other interesting notes is everything with the lens is powered including shift, zoom, and focus. I thought this thing was going to weigh as much as a tank, but the specsheet is listing it at 16 lbs which is not bad.

The range figures are very good for a 100" screen. It an be mounted anywhere from approximately 10-20 ft. Nice vertical lens shift range of 50% adjustment assuming this is from the top/bottom of the screen.

It's got some nifty features that other DLPs don't have. Now on with the reviews!

I just bought a used XV-Z20000...we'll see if the 30K makes me flip it already!

It won't. The .95" DLP DMD in the 20K is more than enough reason to keep it over the 30k.

I don't see how powered zoom and focus and a tad bit better placement flexibility over the Mitsubishi HC7800D justifies ~$1000 more in price.

thanks for posting the link. it's interesting that it's using an IR blaster and not forcing the use of DLP Link. Glasses like the Xpand 104 or Monster Vision 3D's should work with it.

center mount for HP owners is a plus. They just have to look closer at the current 3k market and street price it accordingly.

I agree. I also bought a used (15 hour) XV-Z20000 and I love it. Of course, if you want 3D...

Lastly, the 20K doesn't do native 24P. With the last firmware, it'll convert it to 60p.

Hopefully the forthcoming, hands-on reviews will compare it to the 20K so we'll know for sure.

The 0.65 chip explains the case size, relative to the 20K.

That's not even the Mark II which was an amazing projector for its time. Funny how those things are still floating around.

Back to the topic, still waiting for some reviews on the 30k.

Is this a joke by Newegg? I'll sell my MKII for half that price!

I don't see any FI options, which leads me to believe this PJ cannot display film-based sources at a multiple of 24 scan rate. The only option is "Film Mode (Auto/Off)" which sounds like regular 3:2 pull-down detection.

Also, when the iris is set to manual, you only have two options (high brightness & high contrast).

Unfortunately, those are major deal breakers, IMHO. No good.

Anime mode? Out of curiosity does anyone know what frame interpolation does to animation like anime where frames per second might be as low as 8fps. Does it smooth it out?

I'm assuming the 30K's Anime mode is just a preset color setting, rather than a frame/cadence interpolation device.

I don't like the fact that there is no FI either.

But here is what I like so far:
  1. Good placement flexibility
  2. powered vertical and horizontal lens shift
  3. powered zoom and focus
  4. zoom memory similar to Panasonic
  5. 5x color wheel
  6. 2x pairs of 3d glasses included
  7. Network support
  8. 75 hour battery life for 3d glasses (no radio means longer battery life)

Picture quality and final pricing TBD

Here's a short, thin, and kinda worthless review:

I read that and I don't see how he could call it a review. Perhaps a "quick glimpse".

At least we know the pronector is real.

Another shallow review:

Though, it does confirm no FI options.

It seems this PJ isn't widely available yet - very few sites claim to have it.

As a DLP fan, it's appealing to me over the BenQ for some of its lens options (motorized shift, 2.35).

Also, any idea if 3D can do DLP Link? It's being sold with glasses that use an IR emitter.

Like to see some reviews/user comments before I pull the trigger

It's MIA. I'm interested as well but won't purchase without a full review. The lens options do seek nice but I dont like the fact that it doesn't have frame interpolation.

So the 50,000:1 on/off spec is native - no DI, correct? No FI is a big deal IMO, but if that's native on/off its great to see them making progress in this area.

I have not looked at the specs, but I don't think it will be 50,000:1 native. If it has that kind of spec, then it is using a DI. If it had that kind of spec native, it would be a great projector.

I see the projector has a "game" mode wonder if that is just picture settings or if it has a low input lag mode.

A pretty positive review just posted on Home Theater:
http://www.hometheater.com/content/sharp-xv-z30000-3d-dlp-video-projector

"The Sharp’s convincing and satisfying 3D images were also notably free of ghosting. On The Adventures of Tintin, reviewed on page 77, it worked beautifully, offering some of the best 3D I’ve seen—a credit both to the source material and the projector"
