Zombie,
4 lamps?
If I did the math right, that's 12,000 hrs of 3D.
With that kind of amo, you can watch every 3D movie ever made how many times? smile.gif
Now that you have the 4K Sony, is the Z30K still in your stack?

I like to stock up on lamps, It helps with the resale down the road.... (like I ever get rid of projectors..)

To answer your question, the Sharp 30K stays. I use it for 2D 'ambient light viewing' (950+ lumens on the 2.8 is great for ambient light viewing).

Regarding 3D - my eyes are hyper sensitive to refresh rates and flicker. I can still see it a bit on the Sony and can cause some mild eye strain. The Epson 5030 is about as good as it gets compared to the Sharp 30K (I'm referring to how solid the image appears in 3D mode). If I didn't have the 30k, I'd probably use the 5030 for 3D. Overall very nice 3D performance.

Now 2D is a whole different story. Properly upscaled 1080P looks great and native 4K footage is out of this world to see in person on a big screen. I am running my Nikon D90 NEF files through it and it's fantastic how life-like the photos appear.

Plus I can't give up the Sharp glasses. Epson's were a close 2nd, they are nice factory glasses. The G20's are still my favorite out of many different pairs I've tried. cool.gif

Zombie, have you tried the Bit Cauldron BC6000's? I'm using these Estar America rebranded BC6000 glasses and emitter. After having horrible ghosting issues with the MonsterVision Max 3D glasses with my Optoma HD131Xe, which are rebranded BC5000's, the BC6000's are perfect in every way. In fact, my JVC X55R has ZERO ghosting with the rebranded BC6000s paired with the Estar emitter. I'll have to take some pictures, though I'm not exactly sure how to do this properly to show the lack of ghosting. I'm flabbergasted at how these glasses have completely eliminated the ghosting on the JVC. The Estar emitter updated the BC5000 glasses and reduced the ghosting significantly but it's not completely gone like it is on the BC6000's. Other than some slight flicker thats rarely noticeable, my X55R is now doing 3D just as good as my Optoma HD131Xe, but the experience on the JVC is better because there is so much more perceived contrast in the image over the Optoma. I ordered three more pairs of the EStar 3D Glasses from Amazon yesterday. At this point I think I'm going to return the Optoma. The only thing I'm worried about is the ghosting to get significantly worse as the bulb ages on the JVC. But because the starting point I'm at now has no ghosting how much worse could it really get? Also, how much 3D content can one watch?

With all of your choices, I see it as a vote of confidence that the modest Z30K can hang in your room.
I'm not surprised that it can compete in 3D, but I am surprised that it is your weapon of choice for any 2D ...of course with 4 lamps, you could just leave it on all the time for backround illumination.wink.gif

Like I said, the lamp I received looks identical to the OEM lamp other than the white heat insulation on the wires. I have another bare lamp I swapped into the original housing a couple of months ago to test it. It was labeled SHP135 and is an exact replacement. I physically compared that lamp with this new one, there is no difference other than what I've already stated, the white insulation and the part number being different. However if you look at the description of the lamp from the sellers page he lists both part numbers, implying that they are one and the same. I'll find out if it works when I get a chance to swap it out hopefully this weekend. However I'll be getting a new audio receiver tomorrow which is going to take some time to set up. I have quite a bit of gear as well as an 11.2 speaker setup so I may not get to the lamp right away. Possibly not for another week or so?

I can confirm what Walternate said below.

Be prepared to wait a long time to get these in. About 3 weeks.

I ordered on the 22nd of October. It shipped 2 days later on the 24th. I just got it in today, on the 15th of November.

Here's some unboxing pics and the original info webpage.

It was packaged very well. The whole boxed was taped shut and plenty of cushioning around the lamps themselves.

As you can see, there seems to be some white paint chips located on the mirror surface. Hope this doesn't cause any issues.

I ordered from the same place, identical packaging except the mesh was black. Does it have the sticker on the side of the glass?

I really hope these lamps with the white mesh are not a cheaper knock off that won't produce the same amount of brightness (or life span) as the ones with the black mesh and sticker.

BTW, The ad for the $95 lamp shows the picture of a black mesh wired version with the sticker. If it turns out that the white version without the sticker is inferior, we'd have a legitimate dispute.

Zombie: I believe that you did a test with your black wired, stickered ones. Did the replacement lamp show any measurable decrease in brightness?

How do you know it's a fake?

Did you check the lumens output?

Did it fail early?

Was it the same numbers as you see on mine?

you have to do your homework, there are no known sources of the OEM JVC lamp. SHP-135's are still available as the original lamp for the Sharp 30k. .

In the photo above, the mesh is the same as the original lamp. Inspect it closely to the original when you swap it out to test it. The replacements I received from them were identical to the original lamp.

This is the other vendor I ordered from:

I believe that was the vendor I got my first lamp from which was labeled SHP-135. The description for the second lamp, from the other vendor, lists the SHP-135 as one of the part numbers as well as the D350LP. They do look identical except for the white insulation no stickers and no SHP-135 on the lamp base. I'll put in in tomorrow and see if I notice a difference. I have a few football games I'll be watching so I'll put it through a good test, if it works. Unfortunately I don't have a light meter so it will be by eye only.

Do you watch and/or calibrate with “Eco+Quiet” mode on or off?

So you're saying just the box was identical? Not the bulb too?

Do you have a picture of the box?

Can you verify it has the same model number as shown on mine?

mine came in a similar box but the label is different. the original lamp box is also in the photo.

sharplamp1.jpg

The other vendor sent one in a plain brown box, but it was identical to the other lamp.

sharplamp2.jpg

I've tested 3 of the 4 lamps, they are all the same with lumen output and very close in greyscale to one another.

Good to know, thx!

I think after we hear back from Walternate, it'll confirm what we suspect as a good , legit and cheap replacement lamp. Just slightly different then yours.

I'm at about 1,400 hours now so it's almost time to change it out.

The D350LP lamp is in and running. I'm using the projector as my monitor as I type this. Looks good by the eyeball meter so far. I do have light coming into this room so I won't get a really good look until later. Don't want to be in a cave while I watch the games. Time for the football workout. I'll post back later tonight.

I don't have a light meter either, so unless there is an obvious defect of some kind, I'll probably not know whether or not the white mesh cable version is equal in quality to the black.

Btw, which lamp/fan mode do Sharp 30k users here prefer: “Eco+Quiet” [On] or [OFF]?

I've tried it both ways, and for 3D, I think the picture looks more pleasing with it in the [OFF] mode using 'Stage" setting. I project from about 16' away (shelf mounted) on to a Wilsonart Designer White 123" DIY screen. I believe that it is around a 1.25 gain.

11+ hours later and still going strong. Looks like the D350LP lamp is a winner. I'm going to leave this one in. When I checked I only had 103 hours on the original lamp. I bought this projector in April I think. At this rate, with 3 lamps, I'll get a new projector long before I run out of lamp hours and probably have two unused lamps. Oh well, better safe than sorry.

Thanks to everyone on the lamp feedback. I' wonder if we should take a lamp poll. Zombie has 4. Walternate has 3. We have 2. So far, Zombie is in the lead.wink.gif
Question: Has anyone seen a brightness drop on the original lamp yet? If so, how many hours are on it?

As far as settings go, your individual set up and preference determine it.
We like Stage for 3D. For 2D sports/video, we have User #1 custom, tweaked (with high lamp). For most 2D movies, we use Movie #1 (low lamp).
We have a 110" HP screen and to me, the lower brightness looks better (less grain) with most 2D movie transfers. YRMV.

Where did you see it new for $2300?
If it has the glasses and the warranty, I would say it's still a great buy.
It helps to keep the big picture in mind...original MSRP was about $5K.
What else can you get with this type of all around PQ, powered lens controls, mounting flexibility, low cost of operation and 3 year warranty for $2300?

If it has the glasses and the warranty, I would say it's still a great buy.
It helps to keep the big picture in mind...original MSRP was about $5K.
What else can you get with this type of all around PQ, powered lens controls, mounting flexibility, low cost of operation and 3 year warranty for $2300?

refurbished price...4yr warranty...don't know about glasses

I ended up ordering the HC5...couldn't pass up the deal. I will be keeping my eyes open for something that does 3d well...

but yes, for a dlp, the 30000 is extremely flexible in placement compared to others anywhere close in price...and it is a great all rounder. I'm certain I would be happy with it too.
