Lamp I received.

This is a picture of the lamp I just received.

I also just got several more pairs of the G20 glasses and they are all charging with not problem.
I bought a few extra pairs to keep them around and will be sure to not let the battery drain all the way down. Thanks again for your help and suggestions.

I opened a dispute with the seller since the original lamp was advertised. The seller admitted that what he sent was not the original lamp and this is what all the sellers have at the present time. He offered $20 back. I am wondering if the original manufacturer of the lamp still has any stock available.

Can you link to the supplier of the good G20s?
Was he the one who tested them for you prior to shipment?
Thanks

The ones I got were used but in great condition.. The seller only had a few . I would suggest that you ask any seller if they hold the charge. That is what I did It seems that they are often available. The problem is that they are hit or miss. Be sure that you can return them & hope you get lucky.

I just checked Ebay for other sellers and this one has 100% rating may be worth taking a chance.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AN-3DG20-B-L...item4d2f0f1745

I would email and ask questions about holding the charge and working condition.

Some brand new units just popped up on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SharpVision-...16.m2518.l4276

The price is a bit ridiculous but it does give people looking for one an option to obtain a unit.

Man.....that seller has some selection of PJs. Were these in the bottom of a pile in a basement somewhere for a couple years?

From their feedback, it appears they sell primarily cameras. They probably bought a set of PJs from somewhere hording them for sometime. Most likely the prices are why they don't sell other than camera items.

the last ebay seller that had a stock of them was selling a bit over 3K and sold out the entire inventory. crazy when Woot was blowing them out @ 1799.

this is an interesting 30K brochure

http://hometheaterphotos.com/project...0_Brochure.pdf

you can see there is a strong focus on 3D throughout the ad, first thing they point out is how it's completely x-talk free.

until there is some substantial breakthrough with non-DLP models, this is still a unique projector for 3D fans. full auto lens, center mount for HP screens, IR vs. DLP Link (boo..), cheap lamps, etc.

one more thing.. best. 3d. glasses. ever.. All others can go home.. The G20's cannot be replicated or at least no one has tried hard enough.

That's great and all but there is one problem. .......they don't sell them anymore! No way in hell I would drop anywhere near 4k on one of these knowing they could be had for $1800 at one point. Its a shame they quit making them and that there are not more HP friendly affordable single chip DLPs available, but then again 3d is loosing steam in general so it is not surprising (not to mention that you cant buy new HP screens anymore since they quit making those as well! ).

What's the world coming to? No more great affordable 3d projectors and no more 2.8 HP screens!

I was hoping they would have had 1 more round on woot, they did 2 rounds a few months apart.

The only HP friendly 3D DLP's that are still avail in this price range are the W7500 and the Optoma HD91 which imo was too dim for 3D mode, it was around 450-500 lumens in 3D mode.

A low mile 30K sold on ebay in January for 2k even, they still show up once in a while. I would say this segment is done, all the other lower cost DLP's are going to be the typical limited mount options, lower speed color wheels, etc.

We just watched BH6 3D the other day and it looked excellent on the big HP.

If those VR headsets live up to their promise it should revitalize 3D (along with Avatar 2). I for one won't care about DLP (I have 6 3D capable DLP projectors at the moment) and HP screens (I have three) if we have high resolution OLED displays in the headsets. I'm going to enjoy what I have for front projection until consumer VR becomes a viable reality and then I'm jumping in with both feet -- especially if VR is as good as we're being led to believe. OCD? Who me? Isn't this the home of those afflicted with OCD?

I'm with you on the headsets as those sound exciting!

Your also in good company with the OCD as I have a case of that myself.

I'm not sold on the VR headsets, people complain about light weight 3D glasses let alone a large apparatus strapped to their face.

The Sony 3D headsets were cool but an ergonomic nightmare. Intolerable to wear for more than a few mins at a time.

I use these much lighter glasses for FPV with my quads (they support 3D SBS!) and have to take them off after 20-30 mins tops.

They are going to have to be feather weight and very comfortable to get my attention. In the meantime, the Cinema Contour 142" 2.8HP is still going strong after 5 years. it's a shame to see the HP's go away.

These are getting pretty close to what I'm interested in. Wear them like stereo headphones and just flip the top visor part down onto your nose for the video. Things are progressing in the VR world.

Man, that is just way more than I want to spend for this film as I was not real big on the movie and audio was pretty forgettable as well I thought. If I can find a cheap copy down the road on ebay or something (or a cheap burned copy) for $10-$15 I would do that, but that is all I am willing to spend for this one.

Thanks Deja,
Fun read. This technology has tremendous potential.
Disclaimer: we invested in Microvision. (another bad stock pick). They were going to make "heads up" displays for the military (before they went bankrupt)...
The theory is good. I'm just not convinced the general public is ready for the (virtual) reality.

I decided to bid on a few more pairs of the G20 glasses to have them around since good ones are getting harder to get. When they arrived yesterday I checked them out and they would not hold the charge. They are all packed up for return. It seems that many of the new ones have be lying around and the batteries are dead. I just ordered several more used pairs from a different seller and asked the seller to check them out first. I would suggest that anyone looking for extra pairs do the same. I would also suggest charging their glasses on a regular basis so that they do not go dead. As we all know these are the best glasses available and it would be a shame to not have any that work.

Assuming that the replacement battery can not be located: There is a lot of info online about reviving li-ion cells. This video is mildly entertaining (Star Wars theme):
It should be possible to find someone to revive the "dead" cells. They were probably stored in a discharged state. If someone has a number of them, it shouldn't cost too much to try it. They are small/light and easily shipped. It might be worth posting online looking for someone with the appropriate device. The ebay sellers with the bad cells will probably discount their stock at this point...

that is a shame about the glasses, I must have lucked out by pure chance with the recent batch I got. I think I have about 10 pairs of the G20's now.

we'll have to keep looking for a similar battery

This is the manufacturer of the battery:

http://www.aecbattery.com/

Maybe you could send them an email asking if they know of a source to obtain a replacement? Send the model number and other info that's on the battery:

Hi,

How often is advisable to make a load of batteries?

I have 4 G20's and 5 G30's. At home we are 4 people (two children) and we use all glasses (each session we use a different glass).

So far I've had to do loads every 4 months.

Best regards
