yes, do not want to, but wife wants to be on one floor. So I will have to give up my bunker theater room where I can blast away.
Screen come down from the ceiling. Maybe microperf so I can hide the Theil speakers behind it. maybe hide the projector in the ceiling.

So do you have your jvc yet?

and should that be my next projector, or wait again. I think the 1000es sony is a little out of my price league. I sure would like a media server, but with that new ruling against Kalidscape that requires even a dvd bank, yuck.
At ces I saw the mock up of the Dune hd pro...

Well, right now it is 54 x 129 with a seating distance in front row of about 11 feet.
I will try for about the same when we move. But, we have not found the right place yet. And probably will be a roll down screen about the same size and mircro perfed. I believe that screen looses some of the brightness.

That's only 1.02 screen width seating distance...

The e-shift will help.

I'm going to compare to the benQ W7000 I think.

If I feel I like the benQ enough for the money I will sell my X70

You are sort of correct. I forgot. it was still 54 inches high but i did not have my isco lens to make it 129 inches wide. Still same distance to center of screen from front row.
Magic question are you keeping the JVC

I had the opportunity to check out sowk's theater room last night.

2 comments:
The room is actually nicer than it looks in the pictures.
It would be even nicer if he would quit calibrating projectors and get those speakers set up

I am sure Tony did a great calib job.

the JVC looked great. It was interesting to see how important e-shift is when having a such a big screen. The difference was very noticeable. As far as the calibration, it was dialed in perfect. I think Tony is still a little worried about the potential drop in brightness as he is pushing it on high, wide open iris now. It's plenty bright now, but that could change. for a smaller screen, it would be no problem.

SOWK,

Now that you've had the JVC for awhile can you tell me your thoughts on the JVC vs the Sony 95 you just sold?

I have read, the Sony has better 3D and motion, but the JVC is brighter has better blacks. I would really like to watch football with a lttle bit of light in the room (not totally dark) and worry the Sony doesn't have enough brightness for that. I keep on looking at screens but always seem to come back the XD even though it only has .8 gain.

I was going to wait until the 2013 models come out to see if there are any major improvments in projectors before buying, but I will keep my eye on the used market incase a screeming good deal comes my way.

The x70 is a great piece.
I actually prefer it to the Sony 95 on my screen size/seating distance.
The Sony 95 is actually brighter / has better motion / lower input lag / better calibrated out of the box.

But the e-shift is really nice on a huge screen. And pushes the jvc ahead of the Sony if you are ~1.3 screen width distance or less away from the screen.

I am currently selling my X70 as it is not bright enough for me.

SWOK,

So, do you have the BenQ up and running?

You have given me second thoughts about the choice projectors. I am assuming your after a brighter projector partially because of you XD screen. Or are you looking for a brighter 3D picture?

I don't care for 3D "yet", but I am needing more brightness then the X70 is providing even for 2D.

Again my screen is 163" diagonal 2.35:1 material.

SOWK,

Did you get the BenQ yet? After reading a lot of threads, I am starting to lean toward the Epson 6010 or the 5010. High brightness, good 3D and good blacks. I just don't want to pull the trigger until the 2013 models come out incase there is some major improvment in any product line.

I think the PJ I buy this fall should hold me over until LED or Lasers become affordable.

The BenQ is with BenQ right now getting checked over for the 1:1 pixel mapping problem I discovered.

They have not told me what their plans are for a replacement back to me.

I have been using the JVC for now and it's been great. I am just worried about the brightness over the long run.

Also Slots1 I still have my X70 for sale if you are interested.

Tony,
Even though I am not that interested in 3d, I do not like your report and others on the less then good 3d on the x70. Also, still happy with the marantz until we move. Better yet find us the perfect on one floor space to move with a room for a great home theater in Chicago. Ha. I am waiting until you find the perfect projector. That is the one you keep for longer then a month.

Well, I've decided to keep the JVC.

I spent to much time trying to get the BenQ fixed, and it's no longer worth the extra effort.

I am actually loving the picture on the JVC for my screen size, but still have some concerns about brightness I put more hours on the bulb.

Again, I have the equivalent of a 173" 16x9 screen, so this would not be an issue for most.

I live in the Northern suburb of Milwaukee.
Perhaps we might each visit our home theatres?

I had this theatre built in 1995. Its in the basement of my house.

http://www.audvid.50megs.com/Theater/

Started with an Onkyo, bose cubes and Sony 7" CRT
Moved up to a JBL synthesis 3 system,
Got the first generation DILA JVC G10.. and installed Stewart 130 perforated screen, 13' wide. Hey.. it was 1998.. 500:1 contrast was good enough? Wasted of $18,000 for that JVC.. Sent for recycling..
Got the Marquee 9" CRT. Excellent projector..
The pictures are from 2001, with the above..

I don't have current pictures.
Current equipment: Sony Qualia 004
Five Bryston Amps.. mono blocks for front three channels driving Electrovoice professional horn speakers behind the screen.
Bryston stero amps for rear channels with Synthesis 3 speakers for rear.
Synthesis amps and speakers for side channels.
I have two synthesis subs and two other passive subs (forgot brand name. They have three 8" cones in each".
I prefer passive subs - more accurate. I am not into high spl boom/subs - my ears hurt!
Lexicon MC1 processor.. I use only 1 sub for LFE. The other three subs are actually used for each of the front three channels.. I prefer this kind of set up - not saying its ideal for everyone but I prefer it that way..

I did sell the Sony VPL-VW95 as well. The black levels were close to the X70, but like most say the X70 had a slight edge and more 3D in extreme low light situations.

Just another guy from SE Wisconsin checking it. I was excited to find this thread and to see a bunch of others from the area.

My theater is still under construction. I hope to be finally done towards the end of the year. It has already been over 3 years since I started, but I'm doing everything myself and have a pretty tight budget, so I'm dragging out the construction a bit.
