I can get this pj, open box (hours on lamp unknown) here in canada for 1199 plus tax. Is this worth it. I know it is lycos, and I know I can get some lcd pjs new for the same price (e.g. epson 8350).

I don't need the pj right now, but is this a steal that I should jump on?

I figure a new bulb can be had for 300.00.

PF

BTW, I post here thinking that the msrp original was above 3 gs, and that posters here are more likely to have tried this pj out.

This is an okay deal. Nothing amazing. It's not a good deal if there are a lot of hours on the bulb.

Well, it's a better deal than a new Epson 8350, IMHO since I did have the HW15. So that you know, I believed LCoS is the way to go. I usually alternate between Sony and JVC, though I owned both DLPs and LCDs in the past.

If the lamp is under 1000 hours, then it's a great deal.

Your other alternative could be a JVC RS2 for a little more. Sony's color is more natural but the JVC's contrast and depth are hard to beat, though older than the Sony.

I think AVS had a closeout deal on the hw15 almost a year ago for $899. I might be wrong but I think it was the hw15. I purchased one but didn't care for it compared to the JVC's.

My First Home Theater

300 Blu-Rays, 150 DVD's loaded in my Movie Server!

Thanks AVS for making me addicted to this hobby!

Thanks for the input guys. I will not get it. I found it sitting on a clearance table at FS with no power cable or remote, so I was unable to check the hours. However, I am certain it was used extensively by the staff at FS. I will see if it is still there and try to talk them down further if they have trouble selling it. I have gotten great deal on speakers that way. I'll aim for half the price then, considering a new bulb is needed and that new pjs can be had for that price.

The pj itself looks robust and impressive compared to my epson 8700, and I was looking for a second pj for a 2nd setup.

Again Thank you for your responses.
