I would much rather see efforts put towards glasses free 3D for my HT than
4K. Perhaps my 120x51 screen wouldn' t benefit as much larger screens with 4K, but I think even 32" flat panels to the cinema size screens would have far more entertainment value with glasses free 3D than 4K , at least for less than humongous screens. I know this an apples and oranges comparison, but not when you consider which would provide a more engaging entertainment experience.

A lot of non-videophiles will assume more resolution is always better regardless of seating distance to screen size. The manufacturers always need something new to sell, so that is what will push 4k into the spotlight.

I'm not sure but I'll assume some MFR will eventually push a more ANALOG picture with a VERY high pixel fill ratio and include 4k, which could make TV's less digital looking, so there are some advantages even if the resolution itself isn't the main advantage for TV's.

Who knows if Sony or someone else will attempt to bring it into the mainstream, and who knows how long it will take. If I had to guess, I'd say 2-10 years
