As many here already Know I will be Reviewing a 1000 shortly. Possibly by this weekend. If anyone is interested in seeing one in person I live in Indiana (just outside Chicago). Some here and from my website are already stopping in. I don't mind scheduling some private sessions if for any reason you can't make one of the group viewing nights.

PM or email me for more info...

Any pics are video of native 4K from this projector? I know the Transformer and Spiderman trailer are available for download in 4K.

I plan to show what the majority will be able to play. Some blu ray 2D, 3D and Directv. I will have the Onkyo send in up converted 4K so we can compare it to the 1000's scaling. I also will have Monster 3D glasses going so folks can compare them and the Sonys. It will still make for a fun night. Popcorn included!

Now if Sony happens to send me the capability of sending true 4K materiel to the 1000 that will be a different story...

You know Joe, this little experience is going to cost you when you find you can't send it back.

I know my viewing of this projector is likely going to cost me....

This may well be quite obvious, but please do comment on black level/shadow detail especially compared to the vw95. I think we all know it will be brighter and higher resolution with its upscaling to 4K. I think that we are looking for DLP sharpness/brightness with LCOS black levels and does this Sony while giving us the brightness of DLP does it hold on to the black levels so dark scenes remain black with good shadow detail.

Joerod,

Was reading through some of your other reviews and noticed you don't really have any measurements. Are you able to to measure lumens in the different modes? Would like to see if we are getting a pretty consistent 1900+ lumens. Would also like to see how much you can reduce the lumens too....low power on the lamp, manual iris closed all the way down sort of thing.

I like to be able to maintain a pretty consistent light output as the lamp ages. It would be great if you could clam down everything and get down to around 1000-1100 lumens when bulb is new and then slowly open up the IRIS and then go to high lamp as the projector should settle down into that 1000-1100 lumens after 600-800 hours.

Agree that these measurements would be very, very useful.

It's amazing the amount of attention the 1000ES is garnering. I can't recall the last time a projector has come out with this much steam behnd it? The 1000ES has a chance to revolutionize the projector industry as we know it. Stay tuned...

Very good point. Maybe it's the 4K leading the charge for the 1000 much like 1080p did for the Ruby?

This reminds me... Isn't valkyrie the code name for the 1000ES???

Are you going to be using it with a 4k source?
Just curious because if not then you might get one of the people coming over to bring a 4k capable HTPC if anyone has one.

Hi ya Joe. I won't be getting one in my HT till Weds and that one is leaving Monday morning being carried by a customer as carry on baggage back to the west coast. I will have another another one the following Weds for two weeks and then that is off to a customer in Seattle after break in and some calibration. I took the plunge and ordered one for myself and I guess I will take delivery in Mid march because I will be traveling the first two weeks in March.

Meanwhile we have a whole bunch arriving at our warehouse on Monday and except for the two I mentioned above they will be going out to most of our preorderors that day. We should have a bunch more coming in later next week but they are pretty much all sold too. Its amazing but this thing is really selling, production version sight unseen. But we have ordered more and after you guys in theChicago area see it at Joe's, give us a call and we will see what we can do for you. I will be holding some demoes at my house in Brookeville MD next weekend for any AVSers in my area and I will be traveling quite a bit between the 15th and the 28th of February demoing the machine in the Philly, Nothern NJ, NY/Long Island , and CT areas in AVS members HTs. Some will be open houses so if you are in the CT to Mid Atlantic area and want to see it give me a shout.

I know the Superbowl means nothing to them but I sure wish they were about 48 hours ahead on their delivery schedule. Missing the big game by 1 day delivery time is a tough pill to swallow for many who planned for it. I was still hoping that by accident they happened to start shipping out yesterday (usually takes a day for me). Haven't received official word yet so fingers are crossed.

Its hard to believe but all I want to do is watch the game rather than watch how a particular projector displays the game. Anyone one of a variety of projectors I have currently on hand such as an Epson 5010, a BenQ W700, a Samsuna SP-A900B, a Vango, and a few others all fed by my Lumagen Radiance XS, will adequately light up my humongus (just kidding) 54 x 96 1.3 gain Studeotec 130. Pick a machine, I don't care. Nobody will be watching the projector display the game. For that night we all will be watching the game and not how the projector performs. The game is the event, not the projector. Your Sony VPL-vw95ES is one of the finest projectors around for displaying football. Don't regret for a moment that your 1000ES won't get there until after the game. The game will be preceded by the famous sung question, "Oh say can you see?"
We are all blessed with projectors that will let us see the gane better than anyone actually at the game. Just scream out a resounding YES and watch the game. GO NE!

Not at its price I don't think so. I also think there just isn't much interest in 4K outside of the niche of these forums.

If you look at how much 3D has failed to be adopted generally, and that seems to be a far more "interesting" tech than 4k which only adds value on larger screens sitting very close-up.

You don't have approximately 13 people planning to come over and see it in person. To me that definitely says something. Especially since a few of them are driving around 4 hours!
