I'm looking for a quiet FullHD projector that has good 3D. Is there anything that can compete against Mitsubishi in decibels?

I'm used to listening Mitsubishi HC6800, which is quiet, and I wouldn't want get a noisier projector. Too bad HC9000 is too expensive. Panasonic PT-AE7000/AT5000 is at the very top of my budget but i hear it can be quite noisy. What would you recommend?

I had the HC5500 and 6500 a while back, I am assuming the 6800 was just as quiet. The quietest projector I had this year was the Sony HW30. I have a high power screen and keep my projectors about a foot from my head.

Some of the noisier projectors are the Epson 5010/6010 & BenQ W7000. These projectors in low lamp mode are likely as bright, or brighter than the HC6800 was in it's best mode, so it might be OK if you get a chance to hear these in person. The 5010 has very bright 3D, but you will definitely hear the fan in 3D mode.

The safe bet is the HW30. You should start seeing a few for sale soon as the new models come out in the fall. If you look around, the HC9000 should be about 3k street.

The Epson 6010, I run, about 4' above my head, isn't noticeable in eco mode, at 22db its whisper quiet and plenty bright. In dynamic 3D, its rated at 32db and it can be heard in muted scenes. I am running the lamp in high altitude mode here, and was glad to find it is still very quiet in eco mode at that setting, and isn't bad in dynamic.

The Mitsubishi HC7800D is pretty quiet for a DLP projector. In eco mode I rarely heard it over the soundtrack of the movie. Also, it has some of the best 3D I've seen on a projector.

I am thinking of trying the HC7800. I just tried a Benq W7000 and it is way too loud. I would get the Sony HW30ES but it is still out of my price range (< $2000) but now the HC7800 is available for $1699.

Probably more recommendations for you in the under $3K forum. I really wouldn't know though because I don't spend much time there.

Sent both of you PM's. Might want to ask about B-stock projectors.

Yep from all I have heard the Sony HW30 sounds like the way to go. I just ordered my B-stock version, can't wait until it comes. Will update here once I get it.
