Just ordered from PP and canceled VA. VA didn't have anything in stock and PPL did. Gave VA a chance to keep me by giving discount but they chose not to. I was told at preorder they would be first in receiving shipments...talk is cheap.

Now I hope all you lucky few to receive their new 8000's shortly are generous enough to give a first impression. Really would like to know how much the brightness,3D, and the black levels have improved over the 7000.

Did PP match AG's price? They said they would match the $2899 AG price, not their $2599 a few weeks ago when I asked.

No, I asked them to but they said AGI could not honor those prices since they are fixed by Panasonic. I'm too nice and should have jumped on the AGI deal with you and now I don't even get what I was promised from VA and to ditch them.

Guess I'm impatient and want people to deliver on their promises.

So I've pre-ordered the ae8000u, and I'm hoping for a more reliable experience. I'd like to be ready when it comes, so I was wondering if anyone has information re: mounting. Are the 8000's mounting holes in the same configuration as the 7000, for example?

My PJ is on the way, but I still have no idea what to do about mounting. Does anyone know -- do the various Panasonic PJs generally all mount the same? Looking at this page:
http://stores.ebay.com/The-Fair-Trade-Gallery/MOUNTS-FOR-PANASONIC-PROJECTOR-/_i.html?_fsub=8735128&_sid=3995133&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
...it looks like the metal plates are the same shape across all the different Panny models. (The mount I currently have installed is basically just like those ones, except with a different metal plate.) Can any Panasonic enthusiasts confirm?

Just triggered on the 8000 from projector people. Hoping it rolls in on Wednesday.

In addition to 2D/3D bluray, I am interested in 3D gaming using PS3 and Nvidia 3dTV/Vision.

I will post my experience with PS3/PC gaming as soon as I have time.

For PC gaming, I see the PT-AE7000 on the nvidia supported list. Anyone have experience with PC 3D gaming with the 7000?

As I'm contemplating purchasing 5 pairs of glasses I thought I'd ask...is there any way to use a RF transmitter of some sort to convert the 8000U's 3D signal to RF...which would then enable me to purchase the 4th gen RF glasses instead of the 3rd gen IR ones?
Thanks for any info.

Why in the world would Panasonic not use the new RF 3D glasses standard? They have it on 2012 TVs, but their new new 2013 projector? Ugh!

So if you have a Panasonic TV, you would have to get all new glasses for the projector. I can't believe such nonsense.

I recall in one of the videos that they said it was because there would be more people watching at once with a projector compared to a TV. I can only speculate this is because they over-engineered their RF system by using bluetooth, and the bluetooth chips available only support a limited number of connections.

unless the reviews are less than great i'll be pulling the trigger on an 8000 in the next few weeks.

question about mounting.. was going to get a chief mount like this since i want a very short drop from the ceiling:

http://www.visualapex.com/accessories/accessory_details.asp?Accessory_Type=Projector_Ceiling_Mount&chPartNumber=RPA-U&MFR=Chief-Manufacturing

which is 'inverted'.. since this is my first projector.. is that a good idea, to invert it? any problems or is everyone doing that?. sorry for the newbie question.

looking forward to the reviews!

Thanks. I did get a formal email shipping notice from them yesterday afternoon. It is supposed to arrive at my house next Thursday. I'm upgrading from an AE2000 that has been a terrific projector. It currently has over 3300 hours on its third lamp, so the timing is perfect. This will be my first exposure to both active shutter 3D and frame interpolation, so I'm really looking forward to it.

That's exactly what they said. I originally was expecting RF, but based upon some other discussions, it sounds like we might be better off with IR. I've got to believe that Panasonic knows what they're doing here.

I think they should have put Bluetooth chips in their so people would have the option. Each Bluetooth master supports 7 slaves. I have to think the TVs support more than 7 glasses, so perhaps they are putting in two chips, for a total of 14. That's plenty for 99% of people, even with a projector.

Looking at your pictures had me excited for my room...and the possibilities. I love your ceiling and how it angles up like that (I have that in my bedroom). Recessed lighting I'm seeing is a must...and as others have stated...I need to get out of the mindset that it must be perfect on day one. I too have that mindset...and need to let it go....yet...honestly....I did let it go as I've been incrementally upgrading the room anyways.
I talked to my wife and she wasn't opposed to "an accent wall" as she called it...and painting JUST those walls a dark gray. The ceiling she was highly opposed to...so maybe a foam board wrapped in black velvet (as the outside of the Carada screen is...sorta) would be nice from the ceiling if bouncing light really becomes a problem.
And as for me doubting myself...it's just the new factor of a projector. I'm committed for sure...the screen is up, old television and stand is GONE...and projector on pre-order and all cables (30 foot HDMI, new CL2 in-wall speaker wire, etc.) is already at the house...so...I'm definitely committed. I just want to do it right...and mount the projector from the ceiling, fire it up and be decently happy...and not pissed I can't read my health bar in Halo because it's washed out by light. biggrin.gif
I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised...which I'm positive I will be...given this projector and the screen's reviews/reputation.

You don't have to paint everything black or dark grey to get good enough results. What ever dark color you choose just make sure that you use a matt paint finish. My wife didn't want me to paint the wall behind the screen black because she said that it would look like ????. One morning after she went off to work i took out the paint brush and painted it anyway when she came back from work i told her to come see the surprise that i had for her. She instantly complained witch i was expecting, i told her that i just wanted to see how much improvement their would be in the picture and that i would repainted back as soon as i would get a chance. It's been black ever since that day and she just grew to like it and never bothered me with it again. If i had listen to her i would never get anything done everything would of probably be painted beige. She has alot of great ideas for raising the kids but when in come to home cinema i'm the one who spends all my time researching these forums. lol

Guys,

I am buying my first projector and the following parameters will shape my decision. I really want the new Panasonic 8000 to meet my expectations due to the amazing vertical lens shift:

- Quality: Manufacturing deviations such as lcd alignment etc are very important to me as I want the tightest tolerances but it is always a balancing act based on cost
- Sharpness: how the new 8000 compares with the Sony VPL HW50ES sharpness.
- Fan noise& Iris noise: My room is sound proofed and ultra quiet so I do not want a distracting fan or iris taking me my out of the movie experience
- Vertical lens shift: I love the vertical shift that the Panasonic offers as it seems to be unmatched in this regard. And for my room I really would like to be able to mount my projector about 12 inches below the ceiling so I will not have to see a giant pole and projector hanging 30 inches down from the ceiling.
- 3D: Also very interested in the 3D performance since my wife and kids currently will not watch movies in 3D on our Panasonic VT30 65" plasma due to what I think is "crosstalk" or ghosting but I am not sure.
- Black levels: Sounds like JVC is the king here

I am all over the place now since I have not ruled out the new JVC's as well.
