I did on my initial build, but this is the third go around as I continue to tear things apart to improve them lol. I finally got tired of taking pics and documenting everything. I'll snap some final build pics when I'm done............again. biggrin.gif

I know. In all honesty I would not have even ordered a projector or started a theater room if it was not for this site

I would prepare for worst case depending on where you are in the pre-order line. JVC usually ships to their largest US distributors first (AVAD), then to the others (with AVS being right behind). Last year they trickled in a few at a time so Mike won't be able to give you an definitive answer on this. I was one of the first few for the RS55 and got mine right B4 Xmas but since the 4810 is coming from AVAD as an exclusive this is going to depend on their distribution priorities (have no clue where AVS fits in this priority).

Its a fake. I don't wear suspenders.

Kevin. Living halfway between Baltimore and DC, tonight is a doubleheader with close out games. One chance in 16 we could have a Baltimore DC world series. If both teams win tonight, the odds become one chance in four approximately.

Once chance out of four they would both lose. Anyway, Redskins had an improbable win today. Go bears, said with Kevin's earned respect.

At CEDIA we were told the lamp price had been reduced for the new JVC lamps. We received pricing for lamps, glasses and emitters. The MSRP of the lamp last year was $499. The MSRP of the new lamp is $399, but the cost of the lamp is the same as last year. The RF emitters will be a little more expensive than the IR emitters were and the glasses may be slightly more also. We should have our price Monday afternoon.

Emitter and glasses being MORE expensive is the last thing JVC should ... the current already cost 50%+ more than the competitors... :-(

I am hearing that while it is a new lamp design and a new power supply for the lamp, the lamp may not be DC. At this point, it is unconfirmed. Once we have more information, I will post.

With the intake location on the case of the RS40 and above, will there be an issue ceiling mounted with the rear of the projector an inch away from the wall (though not in a hush box or enclosed space)? I see that JVC angles the intake and exhaust vents but I also noticed that the user's manual recommends approximately 8" clearance. My current RS20 doesn't have the rear vents, allowing me to mount up to the rear wall (have short room and need max throw).

I would not mount it an inch away from a wall. What about getting a lateral shift bracket and use it on your current mount so that you can shift the projector forward a few inches? LSB brackets are not very expensive.

I tried Sammy's Adventure at the CEDIA show on the JVC and I did notice some ghosting improvement on 3D. I still saw limited ghosting but it was better. That being said I also tried Sammy's on other units and the Mits new projector was totally ghost free. The big thing is that the JVC still has the best blacks for 2D and with their new features and blulb it might make it a winner. I was also told at CEDIA that the projectors there were prototypes and they were still tweaking the units. We still might see more improvements when it is released.

I have a lateral shift bracket that I used to center the RS20 lens but my problem is throw. I have exactly 15' of room depth for a 136" wide 2.35:1 HP screen (using UH480). Max mounting from the rear wall will probably be 3" to allow for a 1.5 throw. I'm hoping to replace the RS20 with an RS56 but the change in case design is a concern for my setup.

Room:180"
Projector depth: -19"
Rear to wall: -3"
Wall to screen: -1"

= 157" lens to screen

16x9 Screen width 104" (103 plus an inch or so of extra zoom to decrease pincusioning visibility on the non-curved screen)

Throw = 1.5

I'd suspect any lamp change would result in a power supply change.....the power supply must deliver the right voltage and current and I'd guess that varies significantly with various lamps. I'm also interested in what you find out about the lamp tho....thanks for the update.

Better how exactly? Less dark and less noticeable? Areas that ghosted before did not ghost at all? Compared to which older JVC and how many hours on that unit? How much of SA did you watch on the new JVC and which new JVC model was it?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Todd,

Looks like one of our friends Techaddict on the UK site recently attended a viewing JVC was having and it sounds very promising:

"It wasn't all 4 models, just the X55 and X95. The X55 looks like the sweet spot in the range, the e-shift works well and it has the full CMS. I specifically asked for the lantern scene in Tangled as we all know that's a real test of any PJs 3D ability and I'm very happy to report that it was near perfect. Not perfect but not far off. A good, real world improvement on the outgoing generation as far as 3D is concerned. The 3D glasses have bigger lenses too, which is good. I'd prefer them bigger still, but again, it's an improvement, as is the use of RF for syncing."

For those that haven't seen it yet JVC (GaryB) posted the new 2013 brochure ==> here

You can pick up around an inch. With the projector 4" off the back wall the lens is 21" from the back wall. I get a throw ratio of 2.0. You should be fine with the flat screen. You will have slightly less than 1/2" of pincushion.

158"/44.25" x 0.5625 = 2.0

Sorry I was not clear. Definitely a lamp change and a power supply change. What is not clear is if it is AC or DC.

Hey Kevin! Unfortunately, that report means nothing in light of the fact that we got a similar report last year with this EXACT same scene with both a pre-production and production unit (X70) and we all know how the ghosting turned out on last years models frown.gif. Last year the X70 (pre-production and production unit) was reported to have "no ghosting" on this scene and this year if we are to go off this report that you referenced above, it looks like a step backwards since now it is "near perfect. Not perfect but not far off." You can read last years posts about this in the UK thread. Here is a copy and paste of the post I made to Mike on this subject in the other 4810 thread...............

Mike, just did a quick search and still cant find the full demo comparison I was talking about as far as the Tangled lantern scene, but posts 693, 241 and 689 all mention this comparison and how this scene showed NO ghosting on the X70. Here is that thread........

http://www.avforums.com/forums/projectors/1511239-jvc-dla-x30-x70-x90-uk-specs-discussion-owners-thread-part-1-a-23.html

Maybe the new JVCs have improved on the ghosting, maybe they have not. Either way, using this Tangled Lantern scene is not a reliable indicator since it was reported last year to not have any ghosting in this scene on the X70 and we all know how the ghosting turned out in general on the X30/70/90/45/55/65.

It is interesting reading through some of the prototype/pre-release showing comments in the thread above. Lots of "we sampled various 3d clips and there was no ghosting!". This is why I remain skeptical when I read ANY comments about improved ghosting in all due respect. Until we have a production model tested out by Zombie or I can see one for myself, it is hard to get excited about any of these reports. We had similar type reports last year as you can see in the thread linked above, and the reality was quite different. My opinion going from my 40 to 45 was ghosting remained the same, some even experienced worse ghosting.

I really hope the 3d has been improved, but all this is why I remain very skeptical and cautiously optimistic at best as far as this goes. Hype is an interesting thing.

Mike, 158" is lens to screen but the screen is 58" height (58x136). How much pincushioning will I likely have at slightly over 1.5 throw? I was guessing 1 to1 1/2" or so?
