One is that as that lamp passes 500-1000 hours, that ghosting starts getting much more visible. # 2 is the Epson still has enough X-talk to be a major problem in 3D games, though I only tried X3-Terran Conflict and The Witcher 2 briefly on the Epson, they were both problematic compared to the Benq.

I am not a huge gamer, but so far the only game I've even liked 3D in was X3: Albion Prelude / Terran Conflict. Flying into a space dock gives you an almost Treky feel like you are controlling a movie, but even then I can't play it forever like that. If anyone wants to see some super-cool looking Space 3D, I highly recommend Albion Prelude, but you do have to install some non-included custom 3D mods to fix the hud. I just cannot take playing any other game in 3D thus far (well Flight Simulator X was kind of neat in 3D now that I think about it), but that's it. Though again, I haven't played many games (maybe 10 in 2 years for a few hours total).

Hey coderguy, I love Albion Prelude, I didn't know there was a 3d mod for it though, that sounds cool. I had a massive savegame game going with the XRM mod but the latest 3.0 update might have toasted that game, even though I had steam set to not automatically update X3 AP. It's not a game I typically recommend to people though, because it is so unconventional and takes a lot of patience to learn how to play. I have my heart set on a HC5, but I was only intending to use the 2d, but if you can play x3 in 3d, hmm, maybe I should look into some 3d glasses...

I didn't think it was hard to learn, but it did take forever to get going. Still you can fly around and look at the awesome graphics in 3D without any experience at all. This is one game that actually looks amazing in 3D, especially some of the space stations. You need Nvidia TV Play to play it in 3D, there is a 14-day free trial for Nvidia TV play, and it costs $40 once the trial expires but I think there are coupons. Then you have to install the 3D hud mod for the game. I'm going try Just Cause 2 in 3D in a sec (never played it yet), I tried Alan Wake (that game was too messed up looking in 3D).

X3 won't be very playable on a NON-DLP, though you can mess around in it for a while, but the graphics will ghost severely just like most any game on a non-DLP in 3D.

I did try some older games in 3D too, like Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 3D as well, but for whatever reason the depth is not there in 3D even with it maxed out.

I'm a user of the projector since January. And here are a few features :

3D - Shows worse with ceiling mounted. A lot more ghosting and darker. Especially in anamorfic pairs. For BD3D is about the same. Works great with Panasonic glasses EW3D3. Best for 3D is framepack.
2D - Detail Enhancement - On my mind its a analog of Sony RC.. Does anyone uses it ?

Sorry for my English. smile.gif

You English is OK smile.gif That info about 3D in a ceiling mounted position worries me because that's how I have my PJ set up. Maybe it won't be an issue since I won't be using an IR emitter (I'll be using MV3D RF emitter plugged in directly into the projector via 5-pin mini DIN to 4-contact jack 3.5 mm adapter).
I prefer not to use Detail Enhancement since it introduces ringing. It is actually usable at Low but the thought of even slightest artifacts bothers me. Darbee is a different case.

Also, why are you guys making such a fuss about the closed down iris? It's not like there'll be many of you who will want to close it down more than 14. And if you do what's stopping you at using an ND2 filter instead?

Elix, if yours is still doing it then I would sent it in for repair. Mine no longer has any discoloration with the iris all the way down.

Great advice! But I'd rather keep that 500$ of shipping fees and 3 months of owning a projector.

It seems from my reading that the HC5 would have better 2d but the HC8000 would have better 3d.

The Sharp xvz-30000 is a better deal over the Mits hc8000.

Yeah, the ebay deal. Read in the HC5 owner's thread how well that warranty works...

Just before I order! Anyone see any potential problems. From wall to wall I have 13.4ft to work with. With the size if this projector this should give me a throw of 12ft?

Screen is 134" but I have just ordered a Navitar lens which will give me 25% extra throw distance.

Will 3D be bright enough?

Just get the all clear! Then am off to order smile.gif
