Anyone happy with their curved screen.
I'm really tempted to try it but I'm pretty sure we're too close to benefit (12').
I'm still daydreaming about a new room, one considerably larger but oddly enough the screen distance would remain about the same. I'd benefit with full range surrounds, a second full size and possibly 3rd row /bar, more bass trapping, etc.

The curved screen interests me. I'd still have the L/C/R behind the screen and would ideally use the curve to my advantage, keeping the towers the same distance form the screen/ arc.

Just about heading into multiple PJ territory and or multiple VR headsets.

Curved 'scope' screens are really intended for use when an add-on anamorphic lens is being used as the means to stretch the image horizontally to fill the width of the screen when displaying scope (2:35:1) movies. In this case a curved screen helps achieve more uniform focus over the entire image and ideal image geometry.

When using the zoom method for displaying 2:35:1 movies (such as when using a lens memory with a Panasonic AE8000) the projector is designed to focus correctly and provide the correct image geometry on a flat screen.

I just got my projector about two weeks ago and was finally able to spend some time following the instructions in post 3411 to set up for 16x9 and 2.35x1.
I ran into some trouble and am hoping someone can help me out.
At the beginning of the procedure, I reset to defaults to make sure I was starting with a clean slate. The 16x9 went as described and I saved it to memory. I then put in a 2.35 movie. I zoomed it in to fill the sides. When I went to use the V-Area to move the image up, it was working fine until about +34. At that point the image was about 3 inches from the top of the screen, but then only the picture started to move up within the top of the projected image if that makes sense. So the image was shifting up and getting cut off. Hope that explains my problem.
Any thoughts on what the problem could be? Screen is a 115" 2.35:1 approximately 15 or so feet from the lens.
Thanks everyone!
Craig
in both cases you have reached the limit of the adjustment. the image is always 16x9 even when projection 2.40: 1 it just projects black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. so when moving the image up with V-Area eventually you get to the limit of the adjustment and the image stops moving up it starts to remove picsals (sp) from the top as you go.

Archaea Same with masking the black bars at the top and bottom you are actually moving the image up in the black bar area so it is a trade off masking can only go so far and the image is to high for it to get all the way there it is there just not all the way.

craig72 you may have no choice but to bring the image the rest of the way up after V-area reaches it's limit with the joystick in 2.40:1 then go back and use V-Area to lower it in 16x9 re save both in memory

Does wonders for my AE7000U! Not sure if it is worth all the money but I got mine as a gift. Definitely improves the detail and pop of the picture. Almost 3D like. Also works well for 3D Bluray and even HD Cable channels.

What surge protector or power conditioner is recommended to use with the Panny 8000?

How do you combine it with the "Detail Clarity" setting on the Panny? One or the other? Or a little of both?

I love what the Darbee does with my ae8000.
My settings:
Darbee: HD 50-55%
AE8000: Sharpness = 0 - "Detail Clarity" = default position (marked).
But what is good for me, may not suit your taste so do not be afraid to try different configurations and choose the one you like better.
Tips for a good balance: look for added noise, changes in the colors and in the shades.

Yes, what he said.
I leave Detail Clarity at default too. It does not provide the same effect as the Darbee.
I use the Darbee Green setting at 50 to 52. I use the Red setting on cable HD programs.

I have been using Belkin PF-60 myself and I didn't see any issues.
I wanted to know from the owners what kind of UPS should be purchased for 8000U?
I have power outages sometimes during the day but not at night when use the projector so i wanted to buy a good UPS to pair up with the projector.
Are there good brands (APC, Tripp-Lite) and models?
I do not have knowledge about UPS so that's why i am asking the owners what they are using?

Special thanks to W. Jeff Meier (umr on forum) for calibrating my PT-AE8000U (along with my Denon AVR-4310ci receiver). Well worth the expense!

I wish the instructions were a little clearer as far as mounting is concerned. I want to mount the projector as close to the screen and ceiling as possible and still use the lens memory feature for a 130" inch 2.35 screen. Can the lens be centered with the top of the viewable screen and is 14'7-1/2" the correct throw distance? I'm trying to keep the projector from crowding the rear entry door and hanging well below the soffit.

Here are a few pics to see the dilemma I'm facing. I changed my mind and went from a 120" 16:9 to the 130" wide mid project and didn't see this problem coming.

It is Linacoustic--the AT screen will hang on the black goal post just in front of the subs.

I am worried. My Panny 8000 that has about 12 hours on it is intermittently showing a black screen. It blacks out for about 3 seconds and then comes back on. It started happening after about 4 hours on the machine. The audio never stops. I have the BD hooked up to my AVR and then the AVR hdmi goes out to the PJ. I have the PJ hung but the wires are hanging down to the outlet and AVR. Thoughts???

Also just realized this started happening when I started watching movies on netflix in the HT.

Is this for all sources? Have you tried another HDMI input or cable? It could something as easy as the cable is not seated all the way in.

I only have one source in. I only have one cable long enough to fit the length so I can't test another cable. I have tried all the connections to make sure they are connected.

I know this might be a pain to try... I would take one HDMI source, and remove it from your system and try plugging it in directly to your projector with a short cable to see if the problem is still there.

I used to have the same problem with the picture blacking out but only with 3D Blu-ray.
After hours scouring the internet for a solution someone advised turning off the deep colour setting.
It worked for me, no picture drop out for over a year now.

Sorry I should have mentioned the deep colour setting is on my Panny Blu-ray player.

You maybe need to check your input source settings.

Wondering if anybody knows how to have this projector auto detect 3D content when played from XBMC or PLEX. I have to manually switch the projector to 3D (HSBS or TAB) when playing 3D content. Auto switching to 3D is fine when the source is my 3D Bluray player.

So I changed out the hdmi cables from the Blu ray and the roku into the AVR. This did not make a difference. In fact today I started getting the white fuzzy screen and a green vertical bar on the left side of the screen. I need to order the long hdmi cable to replace what I have. That is the only thing left.

Also just realized this started happening when I started watching movies on netflix in the HT.
According to my knowledge there is no known HDMI problem for the panasonic beamer. I would suggest to inspect the data up to the beamer.

1. Older Blu-ray player's and Receivers could have software-bugs in HDMI
2. HDMI cable - lenght? Is the cable > 10m, a better cable and/or a hdmi-hub (amplifier) could help.
3. You wrote the problem appears after 4 hours. May be a heated receivercould brings some HDMI connection problems?

You should do it - like other members recommended. Connect the PJ directly to the blu-ray player (without receiver) and see what happen. If it fails, you should ask your friends if they can borrow an other blu-ray player. If the result is the same you should test it with a short HDMI cable.

If all fails - you have to contacted panasonic service. In that case, something is really wrong with your beamer.
