We could get into a long discussion of which gamma setting is best. There is a whole thread on this in the calibration section. To make it simple I suggest setting you gamma between 2.2 & 2.5. the higher gamma setting should be used in a light controlled room. It also depends on the quality of your display. I personally like the setting 2.4 in a totally light controlled room for most films. I find that the image has a little more dynamic range at this setting for me. This setting was also suggested by one of the top calibrators in the business and a founder of ISF.
