Mendtronix and United Radio are two companies that fix projectors. United Radio is where Sony has you send the projector for warranty repairs, they are in Syracuse, NY. Mendtronix has locations in San Diego, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh.

I've been researching but it doesn't seem as if Sony repairs home projector products. I'm in the Chicagoland area will I have to go to a general repair place or does Sony have authorized Sony locations. PLEASE HELP! Love my projector and I want to get it fixed properly.
Is it cosmetic damage only or will it not display an image now?

the original warranty won't cover physical damage, you may have to consider sending it to Mendtronix for an estimate.

Wow... But there's no more CRT Projectors Forum on AVS to talk about it.

For some reason it's not listed in the drop down menu. You have to click on "Forums", load that page, scroll down and find the subforum hyperlink to click on. This must be an oversight when they built the new site.

I saw a bunch of post activity and thought for sure someone picked up the 16.5k NOS G90 CRT.

The Runco LS5 though is a good price. Folks in the under 3K forum argue over which budget model DLP is better than the next. These are all a bit boring since none can approach the overall 2D PQ of the Planar/Runco. Especially with the DC4, every little bit helps.

Did you send it out already? from the Planar thread, I don't recall what the last decision was. I had mine fired up over the weekend for a few games, I was late to the party finding out this was one of the best gaming projectors around - even today.

new JVC @ 140ms will be out of the question for gamers. It's odd, the RS46 could pull off 45ms on a CRT test, I wonder what caused the 100+ MS change on the last few generations since 2012.

it looks like BenQ is releasing a W8000 model with interchangeable lenses - allegedly made from all glass.

https://translate.google.com/transla...tml&edit-text=

specs are sparse but it's likely another .65 DC3 projector. Even in 2015-2016 it will be hard to take away the throne from the .95 Planar/Runco's for single panel DLP.

They're just porting over their pro-line projector to the consumer space and making a few changes:

http://www.benq.com/product/projector/pu9220/features/

Most likely a lower wattage bulb, possibly a different color wheel, some I/O processing changes and a DI. But I would imagine the light engine and optics shall remain remarkably similar to this model.

In fact this projector looks eerily similar to the Vivitek H5085:

http://www.vivitek.eu/Files/DataShee...sheet%20EN.pdf

My guess is that they're simply using Vivitek/Delta to OEM the light engine and BenQ will simply add a little bit of their own flair in regards to the software.

Yeah, it looks like the new BenQ W8000 will be the same unit as the Vivitek H5085 with some I/O and possibly other changes (note the BenQ images are from the current pro-line model BenQ is turning into the new W8000):

The standard and optional lenses are the same (same throw ratios). Though, we'll have to see if BenQ has updated some of the on board processing to include some cool new features. My guess is that it will be a 3D unit, which is something the 5085 didn't include so that may be promising. I always thought BenQ OEM'ed their own projectors, but it looks like they too have turned to Delta to OEM light engines/projectors for them.

The good news, if I remember correctly, is that this light engine design doesn't have an offset like many of the other cheaper 3D DLP units. I'm hoping they use the newer 144hz 3D capable .65" DC3 DMD with an RGBRGB color wheel, a 3 pin DIN Vesa output, a manual as well as a half-way decent dynamic iris and at least 1200 lumens of output in 3D mode. I hope for roughly 2000:1 native contrast with roughly 10000:1 dynamic contrast as well.

The W8000 will not be entering this contest...

Your Favorite Projector Chassis Design?

any guesses on the pricing - it seems like it would be over 3K, maybe closer to 4K with the interchangeable glass lens?

full lens shift + 3 pin VESA port is exciting, there hasn't been much else in recent years to compete with the Sharp 30K for 3D DLP.

a few questions I'd have - noise - pro model is rated pretty high but it does have a beefy lamp. if the consumer model is less wattage, how much will this help the noise level

iris - BenQ hasn't won any awards here on previous models. The Sharp iris is quite good all things considered so this will be a frame of reference

lumen output in 3D mode

Bob
For those who use their PJ a lot for TV viewing and for a Computer display (browsing, games, etc) the Runco 750i is definitely a real pleasure. And like Seegs said, it is by far the most 'honest' PJ I've seen. You get what you put in it, no trickery or constant fiddling needed. I'm impressed with it's DI adjustments although its a bit limited. 4K is limited so it's not missed here.

For me the only problem is the operational noise. The fan is okay, not quiet by any means. The unit has quite a bit of electrical Buzzing increasing with the light intensity, like being in an old shop with really old noisy fluorescent lights, and you can't do anything to quiet it. The sound varies with the light so it attracts your attention.
It's built like a Lexus Tank, so mounting can be an issue - it bent my existing PJ shelf due to its weight. The cover ring around the lens weights as much as most entire projectors!

The only other knock for me is that Runco has a long and shot throw option, but they split the two right around the distances I like to project from (12 feet). I would rather have a more standard in the middle lens. It kills typical flexibility for average joes unless $$ is not an option. It's not really a rear shelf unit; most PJs offer that flexibility.

Has someone actually measured input lag on Runco/Planar?

It is stated 4000:1 contrast ratio for the BenQ PU9220 pro model. I wonder if it's native (very unlikely, but who knows) and if it measures up to specs.

I measured the PD8150 with the Leo Bodnar Input Lag tester and got 23ms of input lag. It's one of the lowest for input lag that you can find in a projector.

Here's the steps I follow when cleaning a projector, in the event of a lamp failure or just for routine maintenance. It's also posted in my HT build thread, link in my sig.

Note: steps 9 & 10 are JVC specific, so adjust those steps as necessary.

SAFETY NOTICE: Perform the below steps in a well ventilated area and wear latex gloves, a mask, and a ground strap!!! Be sure to dispose of the waste at an approved Hazmat site!!! Lamps contain Mercury so if you aren't confident in tackling this job yourself, take the projector to a specialist.
1) Be sure the projector has been unplugged for at least an hour, but still be careful working around any capacitors (wear a ground strap).
2) Carefully remove the failed lamp and place it in a disposables container.
3) Open up the projector (there's ~30 screws) and extract all the little pieces of glass and dust, with canned air and/or an electronics vacuum.
4) Clean the fan blades as this will help cool the projector more efficiently and will also make it run quieter.
5) Clean the glass in front of the lamp and the main lens, with a camera lens cleaner kit.
- First, blow off the glass with canned air to remove any larger particulates that could potentially scratch the glass during the wiping process.
- Hold a bright LED flashlight at an angle to the glass in order to make it easier to see any particles and streaks left behind from cleaning with the solution.
- Gently wipe the glass in a circular motion with two pieces of lint-free paper doused with cleaning solution.
- Quickly switch over to a fresh microfiber cloth and gently wipe the glass in a circular motion to dry up the solution before it has time to leave streaks.
6) Use canned air and/or an electronics vacuum to extract any leftover debris.
7) Repeat steps 4-6 as necessary...this took a few tries before I got it streak and debris free, but it's worth the extra time, IMO.
8) Install new OEM lamp.
9) While the projector is still off but plugged in, reset the lamp timer.
- On the remote, quickly press the 'Back-OK-Hide' buttons then immediately hold the 'Down Arrow' button for a few seconds until the lights on the front of the projector blink.
10) Flash the latest firmware (r1211.6).

Respectfully,
Mr. Hatcher

there isn't too much there, I think these guys did a better job on an early preview. one of the very few reviewers that discusses color calibration in 3D so these guys are OK in my book.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/x9000-201510064192.htm

they even found an issue in 3D on the new models with non THX mode and reported it to JVC.

How much of an issue is it with the new JVCs getting 89% of DCI vs 100%?

Well that last 11% and true 4K is going to cost you a lot. How much are you willing to pay?

specs are sparse but it's likely another .65 DC3 projector. Even in 2015-2016 it will be hard to take away the throne from the .95 Planar/Runco's for single panel DLP.
How do the sim2 Nero 3D-1 and 2 compare to the Runco? They use a DC4 .95 as well, so I assume it comes down to lens quality etc, but unfortunately there are no comparisons for these projectors with or he projectors and very few reviews.

Other thing I wonder sometimes is whether the difference between the sim2 Nero 3D-1 and 2 is really only firmware based (i.e. things like the DI are there in the 3D-1 but just disabled), they look to be essentially they same projector.
