And all this talk about 3D...I couldn't really watch the 'old 3D' on most TV's...is this active shutter like the IMAX 3D? (Sorry, 3D NEWB HERE). In any case, It would be cool to try it out, as this is my first 3D pj...anyone have the glasses/emitter that they want to loan me?!?

For 2D Bluray you can use the general guidelines in my signature. UHD HDR is mostly plug and play now on the current gen models and there is general getting started info in the 420/520/620 threads.

for 3D, consider picking up this kit up for 49.95. It includes an RF transmitter and 1 set of Xpand RF105 glasses which is a great price for this kit. You can see if 3D interests you for a low cost. Tonight is King Arthur 3D looking forward to see this.

high recommend for King Arthur Legend of the Sword in 3D.. Major effort was put into the 3D presentation and 100% worth seeing in 3D.

https://www.amazon.com/King-Arthur-L...dp/B07147YVWL/

excellent story with non-stop edge of the seat action and great LFE on the soundtrack. Had no idea what to expect and going to watch it a 2nd time. A++

Great to hear as your one of the only positive reviews I've read on this. I will put it back in my Netflix que and at least give it a rent. I actually took it out of my que after reading so many comments on how bad the film was. I'm a sucker for LFE though, so as long as that's entertaining I should be good for a watch.

I guess it depends on where you read the reviews, 4.4 stars @ BB

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/king-ar...skuId=33160923

4+ stars on Amazon, this one is a great summary to safely ignore the critics

3D was excellent, tons of thought put into the cinematography of each scene. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in a while, complete surprise.

Just various comments in the bass thread and Ralph's thread. I'll give it a rent and go from there. There's very few movies worth owning these days for me as most are only worth one spin IMO and I have plenty of demo material at this point. I should just join 3d blu ray rentals again for a while.

Thanks for the report though and I will throw it back in the que and check it out.

I watched Alien Covenant on UHD BD over the weekend on my JVC X500 paired with the Panasonic UB900 (SDR + 709). Very sharp and very clean. This is the kind of movie where you really appreciate high native contrast and deep blacks.

low - very low APL scenes throughout the whole movie - definitely made for the JVC's in a velvet pit

I watched it a 2nd time this weekend, lots of back and forth on this title in Ralph's review thread. Some loved Prometheus vs this title and vice versa. I enjoyed both and hope the next one leads right to the beginning of the 1979 film.

someone listed the abomination known as Resurrection (1997) over covenant so you know opinions are all over the place.
