Unit is not projecting light. Fan does not turn on. Standby light is solid red. Warning light is solid red. Lamp light is blinking orange. Lens cover remains open - doesn't close even when unit is powered down. Lamp looks ok on visual, and has less than 500 hours on it. Called JVC tech support, but they weren't much help. Tried disconnecting all inputs and power for 24 hours, then re-connecting, but same result.

Hate to spend the $$ for a bulb if not necessary. Any advice will be much appreciated.

On the outside chance that anyone is interested, it turns out that the problem was the ballast...

Warranty?
If not what is the cost?

Yes I'm curious too. Living in LA - it's nice that you could just drive it over to the repair center (vs: shipping). I was just there (Long Beach) couple weeks ago w/ an RS20 that needed new optical block. Major expense (I opted not to repair).

Actually, though I live in L.A., I'm currently in NYC, so I had our 'housesitter' send it to JVC in Long Beach. In any event, I had three months remaining on JVC's three year warranty! So, the repair was free. Whew!!!

Yes whew. Wonder what a new ballast cost? New optical block is 3 grand! Luckily RS35 has 3 year warranty vs: RS20's 2 year warranty.

Didn't know the warranty difference between those units. I guess I really WAS lucky!
