Ah .. ha.... well that was what they were referencing? Kind of underwhelming I guess...

If the price is really under 10k LIST, then that is pretty nice, but at $15k with a 265w bulb vs a 330w, I will pass....

Nothing else being announced?

Ok, some things I'm wondering about:

(1) The VW1000/1100 is rated with 1,000,000:1 contrast, the VW500 with 200,000:1. Where does the difference come from? Do they use different quality panels? Or is it just a different Iris? Will there also be a 5x difference in native contrast?
(2) I suppose the VW500 has a lesser quality lens compared to the VW1000/1100?
(3) How about ANSI contrast?

The black levels from the VW500ES that I just saw are amazing with very good brightness and the demo was made on a 3m50 widescreen.

Kraine,

Thanks for posting the promo video. Looks like the 55es model will still have manual shift controls, correct?

Promo is another word for demo(presentation) here in U.S. A 4k prom video would look great too though. wink.gif

So your saying it should street for under 10 000 in North America? Is this direct from Sony? Maybe AVS got some BS info from Sony, unless they decided at the last minute to reduce the price. I'm sure Mike will be back any minute telling us 10 000 MSRP biggrin.gifwink.gif

Now in English I will give you my first visual impression about the picture delivered by the SONY VPL-VW500ES :

The SONY VPL-VW500ES is installed on the Sony stand in a dedicated room well insulated light and very dark on a 3.50 wide screen (140 inches). For now all I have seen is very good, color fidelity, depth and impressive black density, while maintaining excellent dynamic image (3m50 screen remember ! ). The VW500 has punch. Fluidity is also excellent. I wll continue my test tomorrow with a special session for me.
