I'm looking to upgrade my well worn Epson Home Cinema 720. As such, I have come across a Canadian retailer that sells the HD8600 with 2 years of warranty and the standard lens for <$1800.00. Given the original MSRP, this is an incredible price drop.

Like most people, I love a deal. However, if the quality of picture of this 3 year old machine is no longer "that great" in today's marketplace, I will look eslewhere. In other words, is this a killer deal that will knock my socks off (remember, my frame of reference is the HC720)?

The picture quality on this unit is fantastic. The lens on this projector is great. The higher end Optoma's are said to have some of the highest ANSI contrast around, ~650:1 I believe. That coupled with a decent dynamic iris to boost the on/off contrast numbers and a good cms for calibration, you are looking at a great overall package. This projector will satisfy all but the hardest core in on/off contrast numbers and those wanting the highest end lenses or other parts. For $1800 with a warranty this is a great deal.
