So then, I set up our home theater 9 years ago in 2003.
I have an InFocus ScreenPlay 7200, Stewart Firehawk 106", ceiling mount, dark brown and blue/black paint in the room, with dark floors and lighting taken care of, projector to screen is 14'. We use the Xbox as the DVD player and stream only Netflix, Amazon, and other online services through the Xbox.
Primarily, it's a movie room however I do use it for my Kinect and I do have to have the lights on because it's my workout room and if they're not on, the moves aren't registered correctly.
The SP began to have some issues a month back, so I'm figuring on a new projector for Christmas. I truly don't see us needing 3D as we don't own any movies in 3D and as far as I know, that's not a streaming option. We might pick up a Blu-ray player for Christmas as well, however we only own one (it was actually cheaper to buy the Avengers DVD as part of the Blu-ray set...).
So the past month has been reading and researching and I'm on numerical overload. This was a different world 9 years ago.....
From what I can garner on the major home theater forums, many people have a 2D projector and a separate 3D one. Not in our budget.
I'm nervous about jumping to an LCD projector as my brain is still in the DLP world. Reading for the past month has only caused more confusion (other than the basic, if I have it right, is DLP=better black, LCD=better 3D). I've been looking at the BenQ W7000 & Epson 5020UBe and many others, but this past week narrowed it down to those two. In discussing with my husband he was all "Well why buy a 3D if we're not gonna use that feature? Why not just get a 2D one?" I had no answer.
I've read a bit (not nearly as much) about the JVC 2D preferred ones, but now that he's asked that question, I need to determine a good answer, or change my search.
If any of you were in my situation (mostly movies, Xbox basic and Kinect gaming, probably starting into the Blu-ray world....) what projector would you pair with the Firehawk. (Sorry, but I don't know the gain on my screen, when I ordered it from them in 2003 it wasn't discussed and it's not on my original paperwork, I've checked.
Thanks in advance,
