So what's going to happen to this model? My local dealer mentioned there would be "something happening" in May. Is JVC just going to drop this PJ from the lineup because of the component shortage issue?

I was looking hard at the last-of-the-line Panny plasmas and missed out on good deal. Now that I've given the X35/RS46 a good look, am I going to miss out again? I'm about 90% sold.

There is a rumor that this model will discontinue soon.

Is that CR Iowa Cedar Rapids? If so, are you working with Hawkeye? Just curious as that is where I got mine. It's possible that JVC may kill the entry level model, but it's proven quite popular. So I have my doubts. If there is indeed a parts shortage with a common part you may see them put the entry level model on hiatus. I've found the RS46 to be a great unit. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it even if the unit gets replaced in May. A gracious forum member located in my area was nice enough to let me look at his RS45 while I was deciding which way to go. Is the RS46 better? I'm sure it probably is, but the difference is incremental. I wouldn't expect a huge leap with whatever replaces the RS46 either. Maybe a full CMS. Possibly e-shift, but I doubt that for now.

Since JVC does not introduce new models until CEDIA, I doubt that anything new is getting introduced this MAy. If we can help you, let me know.

Just got the X 35 a few months ago and I am enjoying every movie with it. I was wondering how every owner keeps it clean? Is it dusted once a week or or is there a cover for the PJ?.. Currently whenever I dust my rack equipment, I do the pj ..Using the Chief mount.. great picture. by the way..smile.gif

I don't have a cover... I dust the outside and clean the filter... sometimes (every few months). I never touch the lens.

Are you in a particularly dusty environment or is this just a healthy case of CDO? smile.gif

I love my CJV.

I don't know that I have OCD, but I sure get mighty picky when selecting slipcovers, steelbooks and discussing image and audio quality....and symmetry...and the faint pulsing sound the fan in my projector makes...um...

I noticed a guy in the classified selling one of these used for $2400 with a spare bulb and mount and he is moving to a panasonic ae8000.

I would think that is probably a lateral move.

Your thoughts?

edit - nm - read the last couple pages and learned they are probably pretty comparable.

I haven't got to see an AE8000, so I can only base this on the professional reviews and feedback on forums like AVS. 3D is probably better on the Panasonic. It's brightest modes are probably a bit brighter which could be an asset if you have issues with ambient light. The JVC will have better black levels and image sharpness. Both are good projectors. If you're focus is 2D picture quality, the JVC would be the better unit.

+1

There is as much if not more difference in lumens between the JVC and the Panny in best image mode, with the advantage going to the JVC as there is between the JVC and Panny, advantage Pany in living room/dynamic mode. In other words, while the Panny can go very bright, in best image mode it is only around 635 lumens in high lamp.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has an inkling regarding the defect rate of the JVC RS46 is? And if anyone could tell me what the most common defects would be. I am making a first time projector purchase and I'm honestly feeling a little paranoid about it.

We would be happy to help you, give us a call. Also when reading the RS46 thread, notice you don't read about very many projector problems? That should tell you, all you need to know. If there were many problems, believe me, it would be posted. smile.gif

I could be mistaken, but OTTOMH it seems that the latest Sound & Vision cites the DLA-X35 as one of their in-house (reference) projectors and I like to see that because I have a JVC in my sights for my next PJ when my Mitsu HC4900 dies.

I am going to call AV Science when I'm ready! Still love yins guys since the BDP-S5000ES deal from a few years ago!

Does turning off Deep Color in the BD Player affect the PQ from the RS46 at all?

Since no one else is jumping in, I would leave it enabled unless there is a problem. If I am remembering correctly deepcolor allows for more color information to be transmitted. If either end of the diplay chain does not support it, then my understanding is it won't be used and you'll see the normal gamut. If they do you may see an improvement (I think with Blu Ray the additional information is extrapolated YCbCr 4:4:4 from the encoded 4:2:2 color info). It's been a while since this was a hot topic, so I'm just going off what I recall about the technology.

quick question. how much is a compatible emitter and 3D glasses set for the JVC RS46??? or are there any "just buy these" glasses and emitters for the RS46... I'm choosing between the JVC and the Sony 55ES (since I missed out on the 50ES B-stocks)... I'm just trying to gauge how much the JVC emitter and 3D glasses will set me back in comparison to the Sony's already included glasses

last but not least. I know the sony is a 3 year warranty, and the JVC is a 2 year warranty... would I be stupid to go for the JVC instead of the Sony in terms of quality of build? I'm always a sucker for a longer warranty, but if the JVCs aren't prone to failure I'd rather go with the JVC for it's amazing 2D quality.

I can't answer the question on the emitter (the wife and I are not 3D fans), but I can say the build quality has been very solid on our unit. Judging by this thread it seems to be very good. A friend with an RS45, the predecessor to this model, has been very pleased with his unit.

If 3D is a priority I think you would probably be better off with the Sony. It is brighter and handles 3D better. The JVC has lens memory which allows for an inexpensive scope/2.35:1 setup (which is fantastic). The JVC also does not have a dynamic iris, which means there is no pulsing of the picture due to the iris action (although the iris does give the 55ES ever so slightly better blacks according to the reviews). If you aren't bothered by the action of a dynamic iris than it is a non-issue, I happen to be bothered by it.

Both are great projectors. I'd look at what you want to use it for and make the call based on which one fits best.

also not a 3D fan, but i THINK the emitter comes bundled with 2pairs of glasses for about 250, or you can buy just the emitter for 120(going off memory from about a year ago, so lots of room for error).

as for the glasses, any of the newer RF glasses should sync up. the samsung glasses that came with my f8500 work just fine, and i actually prefer them to the jvc ones which i find annoying after several minutes. neither are very comfortable though, imo.
