Unless I am mistaken this is what they are selling? It looks like the real deal to me?
Can it be true?

O.K. Buttabean, you made me a "monkey see monkey do" , because I'm following you smile.gif

I just ordered $529.00 delivered for an Optima HD 90.

Apparently the Optoma HD 90 is 1200 Lumens. That is 200 lumens more than the HD-91?
It is being marketed and sold in Asia and Australia
.
I found the owners manual and specs. It looks identical to the Optima HD-91?
The manual shows where you can change language in the setup to English?

I ordered because this price is absurd and I can blame you if I get ripped off smile.gif

Now we are both waiting for delivery: ha ha..

Does anyone know if the HD90 can support US voltage? 110v vs 220v
Would it support both? If not you might have to replace the power supply or buy a converter.

There are 3 transactions listed for that seller.
Does anyone know what "official biaopei" means???

Any updates on the tracking number?

I'm so curious if something shows up what the heck is it going to be.

I have purchased items from alibaba.com before and have received cheap junk but it was the cheap junk I had ordered.

Years ago I'd say you would be covered by using a CC.
However today most no all CC issuing banks don't give a rats flipping arse about customers of merchants.

I find it ironic that whenever the government passes a law to reform some sector-private or public-it always makes things worse than before- for the average citizen.

The 91 comes with an auto switching universal power supply. if this is an HD90, I would expect the same. Specs for HD90 also list universal power supply.

Well I may need to retract that statement at least for my card.

Called issuing bank and asked specifically ask what protection do I have with an on-line purchase from China.
I would be fully covered in the event of:
1. I did not receive the item I ordered
2. Received something different than I ordered
3. Card was charged for items I did not approve.

If the HD90 turns out to be legit... I might have to get 2 of them for my 14' wide screen. It would then be affordable to stack 2 of them. smile.gif

Regarding the AliExpress seller,.. read this first, including comments section, before ordering anything there:
http://www.workfromhomewatchdog.com/is-aliexpress-com-a-scam/

I hope you guys get a projector,.. but as I suspected,.. dont hold your breath.
If its an unbelievable deal,.. its probably a scam

I just got this email this morning

"We have suspended this seller’s account because we detected unsafe trading activities. All of your pending orders with this seller have been frozen for your security.
We have asked this supplier to provide supporting evidence, such as shipping documents and qualification certificates, within 3 working days. Normally, it takes 15 calendar days to close the case.If the supplier is unable to provide the evidence or if the evidence is insufficient, we will close the order and process the refund for you.

We apologize for this inconvenience. At AliExpress we are committed to ensuring you enjoy a safe shopping experience. We will continue striving to improve.Your understanding and cooperation are highly appreciated."

Darn... And a hundred AVS members sigh.

That would have been pretty amazing if "super cheap projector" became true haha

If you're not interested in 3D and are looking for the convenience of LED (use the projector like a T.V.) at a much lower price point then check out this projector.

I initiated the wire transfer for the HD90. 4.3k US$ including shipping.
New stock will be in around the 24th. Fingers crossed smile.gif

I switched shipping from DHL to FedEx. After the Ouya debacle I have zero faith in DHL

CONTRAST

The title of this section might be called but where are the black people? Optoma Announces 500 000:1 dynamic contrast and well we are very, very far. The passage of the train arrives in Montenegro Casino Royale delivers free depth image with much more dark gray than black. The record is abysmal, even LG-PF80G which was not very good on this point, comes to do better than the HD91.

Two solutions to overcome this weakness, select a higher gamma make the beautiful black but by removing any detail.

The second solution is to activate the device for modulating the intensity of the LED according to the image content. This is a technical tip on the principle of a dynamic iris, but after suffering the effects of pumping light among the most important that we have received since we are testing projectors, we quickly chose disable this option.

So if I'm understanding the translation properly, there's particularly bad native contrast, even for DLP, and the "DI" is the worst implementation you've seen on any projector so far reviewed?

Quote:
CONCLUSION

The miracle did not happen. Defects identified on the HD91 are too numerous to imagine being offset by his rare qualities. Optoma certainly has the merit of offering us a full HD LED projector at a rate much lower than high-end competitors are RUNCO, DPI or SIM2 but unfortunately their performance is not at the rendezvous. If you are considering buying this model, it will make a lot of compromises in order to consider using it in your home theater.

This review pretty much is the final nail in the HD91's coffin. The contrast (no pun intended) between this and the AVForums and the PC reviews is rather startling! There are now several reviews that state that this projector is subpar and several that had a more positive appraisal. There is a Dutch review that found the contrast to be abysmal just like Kraine's review. Even the AFVForums review called the contrast mediocre. This projector with its low light output and poor to extremely poor contrast may be a more worthy contender in the sub $1,000 battle found in the under $3,000 forum.

To be honest I was hoping for better reviews. Maybe another manufacturer will enter the fray with a much better projector with a LED light source at a reasonable cost. We can only hope.

I have seen this projector in a booth at Hi-End expo last week. There was no ambient light in the room and they were showing Gravity on the HD91. What can I say, my Optoma GT760 has better contrast. Saying that blacks were sub-par would be an understatement. Well, I heard the reports before but even so I was surprised.

So if you are Optoma how do you fix this? Can a fix be accomplished with firmware changes? I would hate to see them offer this potential great solution and not be able to tweak it to at least meet >average blacks and contrast.

Thanks for your opinion. I hate to say I told everyone so, but.......

Optoma has NEVER been one to bring value to market in terms of PQ at basically any price point other than the sub $1000 market. I've had a number of Optoma projectors and none of them have ever made me say "Now that's a great picture". I'm just glad I didn't have to waste my money again to check this one out.

If they were to bring this projector to around $1500-$2000 I think it would make for a better deal. There are still good applications for this projector even with it's lack of contrast. The LEDs are attractive to those looking for something that can be left on all the time. It's relatively sharp, has good motion handling, and offers lens shift. I just wouldn't consider this a "home theater" projector and definitely not a value at it's current asking price. These days a "home theater" projector means relatively competitive contrast performance and overall PQ refinement and it seems this projector lacks both.

This is pretty sad. In my opinion, Optoma had a chance with this model to start inching back to being respectable. Once again they over-promised and under delivered.
