The HD91 will be a thinner and smaller version of the HD83

To me the HD83 and HD87 look very similar, but the 87 is a better projector (3D aside).

Is there any way in which this looks more like the 83 than the 87 ?

Cheers.

I'm not sure to understand correctly. The only thing I can say is that the HD91 is a smaller and thinner version of the HD83. I mean the outside look. If you are refering to the picture quality, at Amsterdam it was only a very early prototype version.

Yes, I meant the external appearance.

The HD83 is (W x D x H) 372mm x 490mm x 190mm
The HD 87 is (W x D x H) 430mm x 340mm x 164mm

So the 87 is wider, but not as deep and not as tall.

Some pics of the HD83:

http://cinemashop.pl/optoma-hd87-duplikat-1-576.html

Some of the HD87:

http://www.audiot.co.uk/products/optoma-hd87-full-hd-projector-1855.aspx

The HD87 looks a little...less fat.

Once again the HD91 looks like the HD83 and not the HD87. The HD91 is a tinny version of the HD83.

I can do that with my SIM Lumis at 14', with a T1 lens, but not 12'. That is a really short throw.

Is there any way this could potentially have amazing blacks? Or is it hindered by DC3 chip?

The LEDS could be shut off completely at full black screen, and that is enough to get idiotic viewers wowing. Anything less than full screen black it would be pretty much the same as any other DC3 chip LED. machine.

My NuVision ProVu P2 does this with 'iris' setting 3 and technically has a black floor lower than any jvc. But its not practical to use that setting as the difference between native and dynamic contrast becomes way too apparent. In it's least aggressive setting I get around 12000:1 on/off and it looks like a appropriate amount of contrast (ie a fantastic DI implementation) and is respectable for a DLP projector but is still no match for a jvc's native contrast.

Hi,

Optoma has probably moved the release date to 2014, a great pity.

After all its an Optima and higher priced projectors up to now are not their forte. I have never seen an Optima that threw as good of HT picture as a Sony or JVC.

I've seen a few of them too. Even their "top of the line" HD8600 didn't impress me much. They wanted way too much money for it especially when other products that sold for far less looked much nicer.

if it is like 5000€ ( $6415 ) + screen fee + light and room setup + lamp for 20k
I better off with Sharp LC-80LE757U for just $4k
LED tv
1080p
240Hz
3D
never get with projector like LED tv PQ
and ones the 4k tv hit the market ( mas production i mean ) trust me 1080p tv will sell like a water ( next year ) wink.gif

customers waiting 4k tech and we are stuck with 1080p projector with that much of ....( here and there )
and yah lucky to have 720p projector ( man thats an led lamp in which its stay 20k ) hit me in the head - Acer K335 and ML1000 and so on ( where the hell 1080p one ) and cheerup it will be only $1000 ( cut the crap) tongue.gif
the projector marketing is somehow pity ( sorry to say that ) mad.gif

just freaking out biggrin.gif

Hi,

my info is from a former german dealer.wink.gif

I also hope that the projector later this year comes on the market.
I just hope he is placed far below 5000 Eur.
I still can bridge the time with my HD 87 by then good.
I've seen in recent times no real progress in other projectors.

if I want any 3d I'm going to buy one of the cheap tripple flash DLPs .

Greetings
