Is it valid to do the 3D Grayscale calibration by simply using the standard 2D HD Rec.709 and enabling the projector's 2D->3D conversion, then measuring through the glasses?

Coolplazma's HT Den project. Early project info. Needs update with final results.

This should be fine. I think some folks are doing it this way, I used to and it worked well for me. You should be able to get a calibration disk with 3d patterns now though, if you want to be extra sure that your pj doesn't do anything strange with the signal when converting 2d -> 3d.

I gave this a shot and it seems to work ok with the standard AVS HD 709 patterns.

One hitch though, when metering with the Sony 3D glasses in front of my i1D3. I couldn't seem to get the glasses positioned to allow more than ~1.9FL, whereas without the glasses the meter reports ~20FL in that same position. I had the glasses (one lense anyway) as close to the i1D3 eye as possible - basically the i1D3 was sitting inside the glasses frame. Also verified the glasses were acitve/in-sync.

Any thoughts?
