I have been looking on Ebay for a used Sony VPL-VW or VPL-HW and in some cases the price structure is extremely strange. I came across a VLP-VW100 (circa 2005) which had a selling price of over $4,000.

I sent a note to the seller, asking if this was either a mistake in the price, or the model #....he said it is correct.

In other cases you see newer models selling for much less than their current value.

what is going on here?

Can eBay be trusted?

Is there a better way?

Sounds like you are looking at listing prices, not selling prices. Just because an item is listed for a certain price doesn't mean it will sell for that price.

Look for the "completed listings" checkbox on the left side of the ebay search page - it will show auction closing prices and if the item actually sold there will be a banner across the picture that says "sold."

Copyright is not property, it is merely a temporary loan from the public domain.

Like this one?

Sony VW100

this will be 'for sale' until the end of time. No one in their right mind would pay this much for this dated model, even with 96 hours. You'll also see 2-3 year old models listed for their original selling price which can be easily ignored since those aren't going to sell either.

checking 'completed' items is a great way to see what folks are willing to pay for a specific model you are looking for.

I always love the listings like a new Sharp XV-Z12000 for $4995.00. It makes me want to waste the sellers time with a bunch of questions but I always resist and just laugh it off and move on.

The Mayans were full of sh*t!!!

I always just want to send them an email saying "good luck buddy". maybe one day.

For the record, I'm selling my vw95es for $3200 on ebay (also listed on avs for $50 cheaper)

There is a sucker born every minute.

You can always ask but does the projector sell at that ridiculous price?

Looks like they forgot there's a thing called "search on Internet" where you can see the real prices atm.

Woah woah...wait a sec. Are we talking about the one thats missing the remote?

I've been watching that one but....lil skeptical when a projo is missing parts and who knows if the hours listed is really anywhere close.

But....if that someone is known around the forum...I might take a harder look.....
