The review measured calibrated brightness and contrast at d65 and rec709. While i would like confirmation from other sources, it is not inconceivable that uncalibrated max brightness remained the same while calibrated brightness increased by 10%. In fact that would be consistent with the "new panels" that sony mentions on the HW55 slides. Maybe they need less headroom for clouding/shading correction, therefore sony could increase contrast and calibrated brightness. Let's just wait and see, what other measure....

Since the contrast has increased, Sony probably had to get increased light, out of the engine to get the same light output out of the projector.

I will get my sony hw55es in white on monday. I ordered the wireless unit with it but that will arive next week.

The epson Tw9200 is not much better than the TW9100. The same with the sony hw50 and hw55. I believe (and told) the epson is not a better projector that the sony. The epson is only brighter and cheaper.

Great,

If you have the possibility and time, I would be more than happy if you can test a 3D movie using WHDMI, is WHDMI enough ?

Did you get your HW55? Can you confirm the throw ratio? I'd like to install my mount so I can throw mine up as soon as it gets here....

Yes i have it now ,and its calibrated now..

My first short impressions(i come from a epson tw9000).

The good:

A razor sharp picture does this unit throw at your screen..

Amazing contrast(a step up from my epson).

Very very good blacks.

No more screendoor(i sit very upclose and i saw that on my epson.).

Reality creation gives 3d more clarity..

3d is sharper and it has far more details then my old epson..

FI works good in 3d

More then enough light for my 100 inch screen in 2d.

The bad:

Still ghosting in 3d(sometimes more then my old epson tw9000)

The ir transmitter inside the sony unit is not that strong( i have it on the same place sitting where my epson was but now i loose sync).

i can see some flicker through the glasses that was better with the epson..

But its a great projector with great pop and depth in the image and razor sharp!

So this is just my opinion and not a professional review..

Best regards:)

Ps by the way sorry for my bad english...wink.gif

You should try the new RF transmitter with glasses accessory pack. This is supposed to make the 3D much better.

Credit: Sony Store
Transmitter: Optional external transmitter (TMR-PJ2)
Glasses: Optional rechargeable glasses (TDG-PJ1)

Hello there,

i think of getting that rf emitter and glasses.

But the flicker and the ghosting will be the same i think..

Dont get me wrong because the clarity and depth and pop in 3d (this is far better then my old epson) looks great..

But ghosting you will see sometimes.

Sounds like 3D in particular should benefit from some of the improvements to the light engine. Also of note, although an IR transmitter for the IR glasses is built into the unit, the new HW55Es supports the latest initiatives, so you can now buy an optional RF emitter (TMR-RF1), and new lighter RF glasses (TDG-BT500A). In every case where we’ve seen a projector support both the older IR and new RF configurations we have found the RF solution to be brighter, and superior overall. I would expect the same here!

Respectfully,
Mr. Hatcher

Well I pulled my data straight from Sony's website, hence the reason I credited them. Not sure where you got your info from, or Art for that matter...I see his is different as well. Oh well, point being, there are better options available that should make 3D more enjoyable. smile.gif

Looks like maybe a slightly wider throw range than the 50ES? Thanks for the info - my mount is installed - now I just need the projector to hang from it!

I would agree. But if they are selling decently on their own website for full MSRP, I can't blame them for milking their current position in the market. Still a crappy thing to do to their vendors.

I must be guilty because people say I am guilty because they chose to call me guilty because they refuse to see the truth. Much easier to be part of the mob..
