Well, just sold my Sony VW85.

Here are my options:

Used JVC RS20
New Mitsubishi HC5
JVC RS40 B-stock w/ warranty
JVC RS45 B-stock w/ warranty

The last one is just a bit out of my budget, but I could stretch. I do like crt-black, though I love Sony's color and sports viewing. My passion is sci-fi and dark stuff.

Appreciate your inputs (wife gave up many years ago).

A JVC RS45 refurbished can be had for a better price than the HC-5 new. JVC themselves were selling them on Ebay last week. That JVC is the best option for you with the type of content you watch.

Dylan,

Thanks for the inputs, similar to one of the pm received. You might want to review forum rules and edit out the prices.

Cheers.

OK. JVC charges sales tax in certain states (nexus). How do I find out besides contacting them directly?

It states that they charge the highest taxable rate in your home state. If it is lower you contact them and they will refund you the difference.

I was eying your VW85....
Probably the same for all of JVC, but if you are buying from the JVC refub co. on Ebay, go to the item, then find the "Shipping and Payments" tab. Then, see image... Hope this is what you are looking for.

I have a similar list plus an In83 and a refurb RS55 as an ultimate $$ stretch. But I'm waiting to see the outcome of the HC5 review by Dr. Z10k.

Thanks. Good to know. Though the state has multiple sales tax rate, vendor chooses the highest rate.

Learn something everyday.

Yes, the VW85 went faster than I thought so I re-watched Cloud Atlas BR with my back up, JVC HD350.

Per Zombie, he felt the contrast of the HC5 is on par with my VW85, JVC is it.

It's done.

Went for a "new" RS45 with warranty. I'm sure it's brighter, sharper and darker than my HD350, but staying with the JVC line. Don't get me wrong, I "thought" the VW85 would last me couple more years...just like the last projector.

Cheers.
