That is a good deal, provided it comes with full 3 year manufacturers warranty through sony canada and if its a demo, a spare bulb. I personally would go for it having seen the sony 30, the 5020/6020, and mits hc5 recently. It is a nice 2d pj, with good enough contrast, good enough brightness for most setups, minimal screen door effect, and good input lag if you game. I cant comment on 3d though if thats important to you.
In canada the sony 50 is tough to come by right now and prices tend to be quite high. That leaves you with an option of a sony 55 if you want to stick with the versatility of a sony which is likely going to be double the cost of the 30 you are looking at. Is the 55 going to be better, absolutely, double the price better, maybe to some.
Having said all that though, this is just my personal take. The right decision for you might be different depending on your room, your screen, your throw, how picky you are, and your ability to watch a pj knowing there are better pictures to be had out there!
