Hi,
I owner of Sony HW50ES, and I considering to replace it with VW95ES.
I know that VW95ES is a better projector, but I check with Projection Calculator , and I see that the brightness is too low for me.
The projector is 4.5m far from screen, my screen is 1.1 gain, and the size is 120'' 16:9 .
With these details I get 9 fL (I get this result from the calculator) .
Assuming I am not going to change the projector place or replace the screen, Is it recommended to buying the VW95ES regarding brightness ?

I would not do it, but it depends on how much light ( or Little ) you can live with.

If you turn on the manuel iris and set it to 0 ( minimum ) and put the lamp on low with your HW50, you will have about the same output as the VW95es has with its high lampmode and auto iris on or with iris off - try that and see if you can live with that output ...?

and remember then, that the lamp will loose even more light with more hours on it ( unless your HW50 lamp is used allready over 1000 hours !? ) and then think about, if you consider using it for 3D ? ( forget that smile.gif - it will NOT have light output enought for satifysing 3D at a 120" 16/9 1.1 gain screen screen from 4,5 m , even when the lamp is new )

If you really wants to replace the HW50 , then waite and see the new models from Sony coming around the next 6 months - exspecially the 95 replacement.

I am very pleased with my HW50ES.
I have an opportunity to replace it with 2nd VW95ES for not much money.
I don't want to spend a lot of money for upgrade.

Keep your HW50, the VW95 has a better lens and blacklevel, but the HW50 is better on everything else and gives a better picture than the VW95 on big screens. I know as I own the HW50 now and owned the VW95 when it was released a couple of years ago and I also own the VW1000...smile.gif

OK
I will keep my HW50ES smile.gif
Since I want a deeper black, I read that I can improve it with "service menu" (enter, enter, left, enter).
Which parameter I need to change ?

Do you use both projectors?  If so, do you feel you are missing anything when watching the HW50 compared to your VW1000?

Yes, I use both projectors, but in different rooms. I use the VW1000 in a batcave with a 128" 2.35:1 dnp Supernova 08-85 screen and the HW50 in a room with white walls and ceiling and a 100" 16x9 dnp Supernova 08-85. And I use my VW1000 for blu ray movies and the HW50 on some TV, games and series on blu ray, my kids also use it for animated movies. Of corse the VW1000 is in another league than the HW50, but I enjoy the HW50 for its use and I could juse it in my batcave for movies with out a problem.

I don´t know and I personally would never do that, but I think there is a manual on how to do this on a VW95 somwhere in this forum. Ask the same question in the HW50 tread and if someone has tried it they will answer.
