My dealer said the Sony should be out in Canada at the end of October or early November. He just got word from Sony, but Sony has not released a price to him yet. Maybe they are reading these forums, make sure you let them know how you feel about a 15 000 MSRP.

Its not just the I/O board being changed out.

There is a new bulb and the server/tablet. With a discounted bulb that would value at something over $1300. The new I/o board and OTHER upgrades for less than $1000 and in home installation. No offense, but its really idiotic to call $2500 a rip off. Most of us had assumed a $3K price for the package.

Neither is affordable IMO. I will start getting excited when these are at ~5k or under which I am guessing we are still a few years away from.

They will not put out the same kind of an image at that price. Will it be better than the 1080p images were seeing today? Most definitely, but it won't compare to the 1000es and 600es. I'd put money on it.

Indeed, I'd surmise the problem at a lower price-point is simply the glass most likely won't be good enough to truly do the 4K panels justice.

Hopefully Jason (aka Zombie) gets one. He's the only reviewer I trust.

I'm pretty sure we'll have one to add when they are released. Then Mark can bring over his 1000 for a mini-shootout of the Sony's.

mark, I am in OC MD this week, i'll be by in a couple of days to rent the Sony.. cool.gif

It's good to know Sony is taking care of its customers. I always know how to take your posts biggrin.gif

Zombie may prefer his JVC but he is very impartial in his reviews and runs tests that no one else does. He admits that he needs the absolute blacks of the JVC when running an HP screen.

He does use about 4 projectors for different sources. He uses the jvc for most blu rays, but mainly dark movies and concerts. He would be good to hear his take

To those that have the 1000es and have seen the 50es. Is the 3D better then the 50es? Wondering if it has less ghosting as the panels are completely different and maybe faster? Also, would RF instead of IR help with ghosting or is that just to do with not losing sync?

I don t own the 1000 but I have the 50 and I ve seen the 1000. IMO the 3D on the VW1000 had a slight advantage over the 55 but not much. It the same (imo poor) technology they are using. The big problem I have with 3D on all DLP and LCOS projectors is the limited 48Hz/eye. To me this is simply unwatchable.

I had the 1000 and my friend has the 50. 3D is actually slightly brighter on the 50, despite 2D being brighter on the 1000. The 3D mode on the 1000 for actually is DIMMER than the 2d mode, BEFORE glasses are put on. Not sure why it does this, perhaps its the reason the 1000 is so free of crosstalk and ghosting.

Many higher end DLP units refresh at 72hz per eye, by the way.

This is why I am very curious if Sony found a way to improve on this area with the comming HW55 and VW500

I know that the 50es I own has lamp pulsing tech in 3D (basically pulses the lamp in sync with the shutter glasses) which results in brighter 3D image. I hope they use it on the 500es. I read that the 1000es doesn't use the lamp pulsing for 3D. It would be great if the 500es has less ghosting then the 50es and also the lamp pulsing for super bright 3D images.

That is correct, no lamp pulsing on the 1000. I certainly hope the 500 has it, and I also hope its added to the upcoming 1100ES. I sold my 1000 in anticipation of something better being announced or moving to a high brightness DLP unit , but so far have been disappointed with what I have heard.

we didn't hear much about the 3D, I'm curious as well if they are using the lamp pulsing tech in the new model.

if the panel speed is the same as the current models, there still may be some perceived flicker for those that are sensitive.

so a VW500 for 2D + Lumis 3D Solo for 3D should satisfy for a while... biggrin.gif

You laugh but I am currently doing a 2 room house with one room using the new
super Lumis (a step above the 3D Solo in contrast, $60K MSRP) and the Sony 1000ES or if it actually happens the Sony 1100ES. Projector lifts, Stewart Screens.

One error. The 1000ES bulb is 330 watts not 350.

I have long championed the need for projectors to have a high plasticity epitome and am pleased that the reviewer has rated the 500"s plasticity epitome as excellent. There you go, twice in one sentence and never before even once. God luv reviewers and forums.

It a clients house in eastern Long island. The house is all glass and stone and hangs out adjacent to the bay, high enough to see the ocean. Black out shades all over.

Now THAT person has their priorities straight! One room for a kitchen / bath / bedroom hybrid and one for a home theater! The money from all the space not bought goes into projectors! Sweet! smile.gifsmile.gif
