As for the VW1000, will it really be "identical" to the VW1100, when upgraded? Will it have the "Master in 4K" function and upgraded motionflow?

I´m not sure, but when they change the complete motherboard/HDMIboard I can not see why not.

If you were Shure you would be a magnetic phono cartridge. Sony USA has stated that the with the upgrade your unit will be identified through the screen for the info menu as a 1100ES and that the mother board would be replace with a 1100ES mother board. I assume the mother board has the inputs on it but if it doesn't and the input board is a daughter board that would be as part of the mother board. There is a rumor that the 1100ES will have a new power supply board to fix a minor problem and which wioll slightly increase the lumens out. It is unknown if this is true and if it is, whether the 1000ES upgrade will include the new board. Best thinking is that it will be... The only I see is the calibration feature because that would involve putting a sensor somewhere and not on the motherboard. So will the upgrade have that? I really don't care because I will forever exercise y inalienable right, whether our country is open or close, to self calibrate. To use my bevy of color probes, chroma pure and spectracal,. and my Lumagen whose color calibration abilities are automatically run by chromapure or spectracal. No freekin Japanese engineer is going to take this pleasure aware from me by providing some inferior built in auto cal that doesn't use meters and my Lumagen. No Sir. Unlike most here, I remember Pearl Harbor although it occurred 4 years before I was born. I will not be disarmed calibration wise or be made soft by Sony providing some built in calibration function. smile.gif

When I talked with SonyDave et al at CEDIA, and they first told me about the upgrade including the entire Motherboard, he mentioned that it would have all the 1100's features, including 'Mastered in 4K', etc. I don't remember him specifically mentioning upgraded motionflow, but I would certainly expect it to. As Mark said, with the new Motherboard of the 1100 it should have all the features of the 1100.

RedRay already can do 4Kp60 3D with 4:4:4 12bit today, I think. Of course it can't output that over a single HDMI cable. The 4K Blu-Ray is very likely to use 10bit+ (though it might take somewhere between 1-3 years for it to become available, I would guess), but it might stick to 4:2:0.

Maybe some 4K Blu-Ray players will be able to dither 10bit+ down to 8bit. That would be a nice workaround for displays with 10.2GBit/s HDMI chips. HTPCs will be able to do that, at least. So if you're willing to use an HTPC, 8bit 4:2:0 isn't too much of a problem. Probably a Lumagen Radiance could do that, too, if it has 18GBit/s HDMI input chips. But even with 18GBit/s I fear that 4Kp60 might not be possible in 3D. But I'm not totally sure, haven't done the math.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
As you write there are many questions without clear answers, at least until BDA will release 4kblurays specs.
But when will it happen?
... The sony upgrade... mmmm
Maybe this could be the real difference between a 1000 upgraded and a 1100.
I don't think Sony will provide a further upgrade for 1000 but I could be wrong..
Very very strange situation...

If it only requires people to buy a Lumagen to be able to keep their projector current, then that is a pretty cheap way to go considering the quality of the 600, 1000 and 1100.

Yes, if and when a Lumagen with 18GBit/s input chips becomes available, that should work.

But there's still the issue with 40p60 3D which I don't think 10.2GBit/s chips can handle at all. However, I don't know if there will ever be content for us consumers with 40p60 3D. Maybe some James Cameron movies could be shot in that format. But will the 4K Blu-Ray support this format? I don't know. I also don't know if the 600/1100 could handle 60p 3D in any resolution. Maybe no current projector can, I don't really know.

Kraine. I read what you have published so far. The specifications have at least one error. You state the lamp is 200 watts. It is 330 watts.

On super clean content like that, RC doesn't add very much. You should test it on something like The Grey. eek.gif

Even if less cleaner content is only soft porn, the AVS moderators will censor it. Be careful. smile.gif

And when you give RC settings please give use the resolution setting (1 to 100) and the filtering setting (1 to 100).

So photo mode gave more brightness even when calibrated back to correct D65 and REC 709 levels, or only when left in the "close to correct" out of the box calibration by just selecting D65 and REC 709 while in photo mode.

I am assuming you noticed no such phenomena if photo mode was selected on the VW1000? (I don't even know offhand if there was a photo mode)

Hi hifiaudio2,

You have to select the photo mode and then the Color Space to BT.709 and choose the D65 color tempetarure et voila ! 1554 lumens with 6660K and 4.0 Delta E Of course it's not a real calibration but the colors looks natural and its the best mode for the brightness with good color accuracy.
