Well. My optoma hd20 color wheel broke and didn't feel like spending 300 it total fees ect to get it fixed since it's out of warrenty. So. I bought the epson 5030 about twenty minutes ago. I hope I'm in for a surprise coming from a 1,000 dollar projector.

My main use will be for blu ray through a ps3. Can't wait to try out the 3d as well.

My friend has the epson 3010. I thought her projector was awesome so this one should be good as well

This one is even more awesome. Also, the 3D is spectacular.

Hi All,
Just ordered my 5030 last night. Should have it in a couple of days. I kept trying to decide between the 5030 and the Sony 40ES. My main concern with the 5030 was with all the comments about fan noise, but everytime I was at a store to demo one, no matter what I did with the settings for the fan,3D, iris etc I found any noise from the fan acceptable. So hopefully when I get mine I won't have an issue as it will be only 4' above my head. I was very clear with the salesman that I would be returning it if it was too noisey in my environment.Took down my current Panasonic AE3000 last night. I have had it for 5 years and it has been flawless, but I have been wanting a 3D projector for awhile now. I have a Panasonic plasma which does 3D but the screen is just too SMALL to get any real pleasure out of 3D.
Anyone have an idea what a fair asking price might be for AE3000 with 1400 hours on the original bulb?

Andy

Anyone have suggestions for the best settings for sports. I seem to get a lot of motion blur when watching football.

I purchased my 5030 about a month ago. I too was shopping it with the Sony and concerned about fan noise, as well as all the talk about SDE. I have to say, neither of those things have been a problem for me. I think the fan noise comments have been blown way out of proportion on this forum. You can hear it running, but some of the comments I've read about it sounding "like a hair dryer" are just overstated even in high lamp mode.

The screen door effect complaints were another thing putting me off. I'm projecting 120" and I don't see it from about 13-14' away. Maybe it's just me, but again I believe those critiques to be overstated as well. I also find it to be acceptable for gaming, although admittedly I don't play COD type FPS. In the end I went with my gut on the Epson, I'm sure the Sony is fantastic as well. In early Oct. I was able to get a $200 BB gift card and a free lamp, that sealed the deal as I was just waiting for something to push me over the edge.

Are there any deals to be had on this projector in November? I may be in the market.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago from BestBuy, they gave me a $200 BB card (which I used to buy my router). In addition, Epson has a mail in rebate offer where they send you a free lamp. The rebate form can be downloaded from their website.

My local BB forgot to remove the sign. No one realized until we were at the register that the gift card offer expired 10/18. They actually just gave me another $200 off the current sale price! I rarely ever get that lucky:smiley:

Flexnbig: I was never too concerned about SDE, because I live in an apartment and have a relatively small 96" diag. Carada BW screen and sit 11' away.

Should I be expecting to get a perfectly rectangular image from my 5030UB? No matter what I do I can't get rid of a small "droop" in the lower left corner. I.e. I can get the top and the two sides perfectly straight but the lower edge slopes slightly, causing the the lower left corner to be less than 90 degrees. That area is also less sharp than the rest of the image.

I'm using maybe half of the vertical lens shift and just a tiny bit of the horizontal lens shift. 10 feet throw onto a 100" 16:9 screen. No keystone.

Adjusting settings according to personal preference is not calibration.

Epson 5030UB, 100" Carada Criterion with Classic Cinema White, Denon AVR 1713, NHT Classic Twos, NHT Absolute Center, NHT SuperZeros, Klipsch SW-450, Oppo 103D

You have to make sure that the PJ is completely level and shooting absolutely perpendicular to the wall before using lens shift.

Try putting the lens shift controls into their central position (you should feel a slight click in the control when you hit this position). Then point the PJ at the wall (regardless of where the screen is), again making sure that the PJ is level and pointed directly at the wall. You should be able to easily achieve a rectangular shape. Then and only then, use the lens shift controls to position the image onto your screen.

When I purchased the first week of Oct., the projector was retailing for $2499 and I got in on the $200 GC and free lamp rebate. I believe the lamp rebate is still good, not certain. Then within a couple weeks it looks like they have the projector on sale for $2299, but dropped the $200 GC, so more or less the same deal as I got. At the time I bought mine many places were offering Visa GC's, I happened to get mine at BB.

I have this too, but in my lower right. I would think that the PJ not being level would make the entire picture not level, not just the one corner.

But I'll check my PJ for level again, just to be safe

Yeah, I've tried pretty much everything twice except turning it upside down, incl. putting the lens shift dials in their neutral positions. I just cannot get rid of the issue.

Thanks.

I noticed this on a BD only on Noah that I had to turn SR to 1. Other BDs are fine. Also with DVDs and when I stream from my Surface tablet HD content, I have to turn SR off but increase the sharpness.

Funnily enough in my previous projector Sanyo Z3 (HD not full HD), I felt the DVDs were more clearer than Epson, however, for BDs Epson cannot be matched.

I replaced an AE3000 with the 5030 last year, you'll be happy with your purchase.

For me, the SDE was a little jarring at first -- that's because I had spent 4 years looking at the Panasonic "smoothscreen" image. I'm also sitting 10' from a 135" screen -- so yeah, that tends to reveal the pixel grid. My eyes have adjusted to it now -- and the overall improvements in picture quality (especially color) over the AE3000 are quite obvious.

This projector also changed me from being a 3D hater to a 3D lover.

I always liked the Panasonic "smooth screen". I did have my AE3000 professionally calibrated after I'd put 100 hrs on it. I will probably do the same with the Epson. The AE3000 wasn't perfect, but I have enjoyed every minute I have owned it. I want this to be my last 1080P projector until a reasonably priced 4K projector becomes available for us regular people.
Just got an E- mail from BB that tha 5030 is on its way. Love the feeling of being a kid at Christmas!

Yes. This coupled with the 2 year warrenty instead of 1 and the fact I've heard epson has great customer service made me buy it

I see on epson a website that you can buy an additional year or 2 year warranty. Can these be purchased later on ?

If (as I think you're describing) the left side of the image is taller than the right, rotate the entire PJ a good amount to the right and then re-center the image with lens shift. You should now see that the left side is no longer taller than the right (or at least less so), which illustrates the basic method. So now you repeat this, either rotating horizontally or tilting vertically away from the longest side of the projected image, and re-center each time with lens shift. At some point rotating the entire PJ in the third axis may also be needed, but you'll get there eventually.

It's actually easier with a shelf mount than with many ceiling mounts, because it's more intuitive. Also use the alignment pattern while doing this ("Pattern" button on the remote). Once all four sides align with the screen, there's a good chance it will also be in focus everywhere too.

You have to buy the extended warrantees within 120 days of purchasing the PF.

Funnily enough in my previous projector Sanyo Z3 (HD not full HD), I felt the DVDs were more clearer than Epson, however, for BDs Epson cannot be matched.
Bet it's because Noah is garbage.
