I bet it wouldn't be much better for that "living room" curve they show in the review. It drops like a rock. Admittedly that's probably a worst case with white walls and ceiling.

The light reflected in the room becomes much more significant as the black level of the projector is reduced. It's a much bigger percentage of the total light hitting the screen, which is why I'd be interested to see the the same plots for one of the JVC's.

We are happy that you find our contrast measurements as interesting as we do
We will definitely include it in all our reviews! As soon as we get our hands on a Sony and a JVC, we will see the results.

I think this "contrast VS % white" curve plotted for a dedicated AND non-dedicated room (living room) is good to show 2 things:
- the importance of the room on the contrast (always do your best to improve your viewing conditions!)
- in connection with a movie's brightness (see the ADL diagrams in the review) you can see which part of the contrast curve is the most important

See if you can find one of these. They're $20 and work great with the 5030ub. They are on clearance so you may need to do some searching...
Those work with the 5030? That's cheap, and I really want rechargers.

They sure will and that's an outstanding price! I was going to order them from Amazon @ the same price but they'll only let you buy 1 pair. First time I ever saw that! Ordered 2 from BB. I had their IR ones for my 3010 and they were great but need RF ones for the 5030. CNET tested 'em with the 5030 & loved them.

I had a problem earlier while watching Jurassic park 3d. Not sure if it's my bluray player or the epson 6030ub. Please help

I was watching the movie in 3d and the picture started getting some red blobs on the screen. Also the outline of the screen turned red. Turned off 3d movie and went back to the Sony bluray menu and then went back into the movie and it was fine.

What do you guys think

At max zoom with a calibrated picture in the dark, will I be able to do 100" 16:9?

In our review of the epson EH-TW9200, we calibrated the projector at Max zoom for 635lumens.

See here under the paragraph "Calibration":
http://projectiondream.com/en/review...son-eh-tw9200/

On our screen with gain 1 in the review (118" diagonal) and 360 hours on the lamp:
Calibration from the natural mode:
635,1 lumens
57 cd/m² (for a 16/9 screen of 2,5m width --> 3,5m²)
16,6 fL (for a 16/9 screen of 2,5m width --> 3,5m²)

The norm(s) say:
- 48cd/m2
- between 14 and 16fL
- some even say between 12 et 22fL

So with a smaller screen than ours, you will be on the bright side, and can definitely do 100" diagonal! You should get 1,39* 16,6fL= 23fL. Bright but many like it this way.

If the question if for 100" width of screen, then it's also good since you have then almost the same screen size as we used in the review (102,85 inch width for us).

Thanks. Is that how many lumens are coming off the screen or at the lens? Aren't some going to be lost since? Also what about as the bulb dims?

The measurement was made on our screen of gain 1 (Elunevision Reference 4k 100). With gain 1, no light is "loss". I don't know however what screen do you have.

As for the lamp dimming, you will have no problems. As I said, the lamp of our review exemplar already had 360 hours on it, and we had no problems lighting up a 118" diagonal 16/9 screen.

I just ordered 2 pair of these from BB as well. For 20 bucks a pair I don't think I can beat that for rechargeable glasses! I've been buying the Samsung battery ones and they work well but I'm always afraid they will go out on a guest mid movie and I'll have to replace the battery! Can't wait to test these. If they work well I may order a couple more pair while I can.

Yep me too. I ordered 2 pair so I'll have total of 7 glasses on the house. I have the 2 Epson glasses that came with the pj, 3 pairs of the $20 battery operated ones and now 2 of these panny's. If there good I may grab 2 more pair!

WARNING re. the Panny glasses from Best Buy! This is a weird one--Got the glasses this evening. Took them out of the box and Panny packaging. First thing I notice is the owner's manual shows a sliding switch on the top to turn 'em on/off/or select 2D viewing. Just like the IR Panny's I had. There ain't no such switch, just a single button. I also notice that they are heavier than the IR ones I had & bulkier as well. OK, so I guess I'll charge them up and see how they work anyway. The manual shows the USB port located at he bottom of the nose piece. WTH, ain't no port there. With some difficulty I figure out that I need to depress a small tab to release the nose piece. Well guess what, there's a 2025 disc battery staring at me! These things are battery models, NOT chargeable ones! What really makes it strange is the packaging appears to be factory sealed and they have TY-ER9D4MU Active/RF printed on them which IS the correct # for their RF/chargable 3D glasses. They even have the USB charging cables in them--I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do with them.
What's really irritating to me is that I really didn't need 'em but I liked their IR 3D ones so much I couldn't pass them up for $20. I don't even know if these are actually RF ones. Could be IR battery models. I really don't feel like firing up my pj to find out because I don't want 'em anyway. They appear to have been incorrectly packaged by Panasonic, they're not returns. Gonna be a PITA to return them on my dime or drive to a BB to return them. Rant over!
If anyone else here has received them and they're the correct ones please let me know!

Mine shipped last night and by looking at the shipping they are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I will be very interested in what Nick receives when his arrives. Guess I'll find out on mine tomorrow. I'll be a bit bummed out if they are not correct. I have several BB's very close to me so I guess returning them shouldn't be a big deal but that's crazy how you got the wrong ones yet sealed in factory packaging! did you ever fire up the PJ to see if they even worked?

Crazy is right. Never had anything like this happen before and with both boxes having the incorrect glasses in them sure makes me think that there might be a boatload of them packed that way. I'm gonna call best buy in a little bit and see if they'll email me a UPS label to send them back. I'm afraid to ask them to send replacements because they'd have to have someone with half a brain open them up and check to see if they're correct which I doubt would happen.
Nah, I haven't tried them because I don't want them anyway.
Best of luck with yours and please post back your results. If yours happen to be right I may reorder. Thanks!

Ed

I can vouch for these glasses that I linked to before. I bought two of them and they work great. Rechargeble (comes with USB cable for charging) and RF. They are definitely comparable to the Epson glasses. A little bigger, but lightweight and fine for people who wear glasses:

http://www.consignia.ca/vip-3d-recha...020ube-6030ub/

The prices there are in Canadian dollars, so US pricing would be less.

Thanks for the post Kilgore but I really don't NEED anymore. Just loved the Panny ones I had for my 3010 (IR). They're VERY light weight, rechargeable and have a sliding switch that allows one to watch in 2D if they are bothered by 3d. I just couldn't resist buying the Pannys for $20--they're $80 glasses! I already have these http://www.ebay.com/itm/3ACTIVE-3D-G...item3cf701358d
and they work great and come with a very nice case as well.

I called BB and they're going to send 2 more pair and send me a UPS label to ship these back. Hopefully the replacements will actually be the correct ones. If they're not I'll just get a refund.

I have mine at my desk, so I can't test them. But I have the USB (micro) port under the nosepiece. And a slider on top, like I'm used to. don't see anything mentioned "2D" on them, though.

The model # on the box says TY-ER3D4MU, which matches the order. The box also says "ACTIVE/RF*" on it. The star refers to "bluetooth."

Sweet sounds like you got the right ones. I think on the slider button on top there is "mode" to the far right? maybe that allows you to switch to 2d mode? I'm not even sure though can you do that on the Epson glasses that came with the pj? That's a pretty nice feature actually.

That's very good news Nick. Looks like you received the correct ones. Mine had the correct model # on the box and on the owners manual but the glasses themselves were TY-ER3D5MA. No sliding switch on top, just a single button and no charging port just a very difficult to remove nose piece hiding a 2025 battery. Thanks for posting this, it gives me hope that my replacements may actually be the right ones.

Strange indeed. Looks like the replacements should be here tomorrow, guess I'll find out then. What worries me is that if I was lucky enough to get TWO incorrectly packed pair I think the odds of it occurring again (they're being shipped from the same location) are pretty good (bad?). I asked for them to check them before shipping but I don't have a lot of faith in that happening.

Thank you for the 3d glasses link! Buying 2 to replace the cheap Samsung 5100s I have been previously using. Will be nice to not have to worry about swapping the battery just like the glasses that came with the projector.

Just a reminder that the Epson 5030 is back on sale until Thursday ( the 25th ) of next week. If you missed a previous sale, here is another chance to get one ! Plus it comes with a coupon for a spare lamp ! Can't beat that !!

Happy to report that the glasses are the correct ones this time! I was afraid to open them up because I could tell they hadn't been opened to check & they were shipped from the same location. Same exact packaging/owners manual/usb charging cable but this time they are what the package says. This was a weird one. Gotta say BB did me right--once I actually got through to a real human being. THAT was VERY aggravating. Sent me a UPS shipping label so they're on the way back on their dime.
Now you guys can stop worrying about me......
