I'm pretty sure that if a store is selling a refurbished item, they must explicitly tell you that it's refurbished. With that said, I've never heard of a brick and mortar store selling any refurbished items -- but I've seen "open box" many times. As long as the store is a big chain store, you should have no reason to worry.

I'm sure its probably been answered on here before but is there a cheaper alternative to buying the $300 bulb with housing ... like can one buy the bulb and replace it themselves and save a significant part of the cost?

if so does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy and what to buy?

thanks!

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've been on this thread. I've had my Epson 5030ub now for about 2 year. Just put in my second bulb and have recently started getting reunited with the 3d on this projector! I have to say some of the newer 3d movies have looked absolutely awesome! I 6 pairs of glasses but would like to get a few more. 3 of my glasses however takes batteries which is kind of a drag. Does anyone have any recommendations on good deals for rechargeable? A while back best buy had some going cheap butI was only able to get 1 pair before they went out of stock. Thanks in advance!

Hello guys. My tw9200 had a no signal problem 2 weeks after the end of warranty. So i end up with a motherboard change issue. It was very expensive at service. Do you know any site that i can find a tw9200 motherboard for sale. Thank you very much.

Hi guys,

I have a dust blob on screen. Does anyone know the procedure to open the 5030 up? I'm out of warranty so I have to clean it myself. I've cleaned other projectors before so I know what I'm doing in that regard. Just can't seem to figure out how to open this projector. There must be a screw I'm missing.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hello all,

I bought a new house and the previous owner left his Epson 5030UB in the media room (lucky me). The lamp has ~2500hrs on it and I see some flicker... Thinking of replacing the bulb as I've seen simliar issues in other DLP PJs that I've owned over the years. There are a LOT of replacement lamps out there, and I'd prefer an original OEM lamp. Can anyone share a source to purchase a new lamp & housing from? I'm not afraid to spend $300 on one, I just don't know besides directly from EPSON who carries the original OEM lamps. Will you share where you have purchased them from? TIA.

Could someone tell me the size of screws to mount the 5030? I've been doing a search in this thread and the manual, but no luck. I just moved, originally had the projector shelf mounted, and am now going to go with a ceiling mount.

Thanks,

Darren

Hey all,
What is the best place to get a new lamp? I've done quite a bit of searching and it seems most places have non-oem bulbs and the reviews are terrible. I definitely want to go OEM and I'm curious what the price should be and what might be some good places to look.

Thanks,
Doug

Honestly I would skip the hassle and just buy it direct from Epson:

Did you ever find out the size of the mounting screws? My HT room is nearing completion and I'm finally able to unbox and mount the 5030 I purchased on Boxing Day 2015 and to my surprise....no mounting screws. Talk about your cost cutting measures!

Hi KilroyNo1,

Screw size is M4 x 9. Congrats on finally being able to unbox your 5030!

Thanks optoguy. I stopped at Rona and purchased #6 -32 x 3/8" and #8 -32 x 3/8" screws on the way home and #6 was too small and #8 a hair too large. They don't even offer metric sizes. Go figure.

Hello all,
I have the 5030ub (which I love). Does anyone have a solution for keeping my image from moving down after I set the image height?

Thanks

The 5030 seems to have fairly crude image position adjustment. The gears are coarse and do not allow "fine tuning". It also seems to creep over time. I have to adjust the height of the image occasionally. I wish they had used finer gears for the adjustment so that it would solve this problem.

My 5030UB also shifts every day, top comes down and also shifts left or right slightly. Real annoying when you set the image 1:1 (no over scan) pixels. The slightest movement shifts you into the black area of the picture. My opinion is that this is an internal problem as mentioned above about the gears and not the dials.

For the last few days my 5030UB has been shutting down for no reason every thirty minutes or so. I can't quite figure out what's going on. I can turn it right back on and it works fine again, but it'll shut itself off again after a bit. There's no messages and nothing happening with the LEDs on the projector to indicate any kind of problem. The projector is over 2.5 years old now and I have over 3300 hours on the bulb. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong with it and if there's any way to fix it? It's out of warranty so I'm a bit concerned about what getting it repaired by Epson will involve.

My 5030 is also about 2.5 years old with only 1500 hours on the original bulb. I've never had any problems with it.

My first thought is maybe it's overheating, though I don't know how you would diagnose that.

Have you cleaned the filter lately?

Since you have a lot of hours on the bulb, it may be the problem. Unfortunately the only way to test it is to get a new bulb to see if that addresses the problem! Also check your air filter and make sure that the bulb assembly is properly seated in the projector.

I cleaned the filter yesterday and the problem persisted. And since it came right back on and ran for about the same amount of time as before it doesn't seem like the problem is heat related.

I could swap the bulb, I bought a spare quite a while back. I'd expect a message or some blinking lights if it's a bulb problem though.

I swapped the bulb and no effect. I went into the menu and found the sleep timer and disabled that, no effect. But tonight I started timing the occurrences and noticed that it was happening at just about 30 minutes each time. So I disabled the HDMI Link feature or whatever that is. The only device it was recognizing was my nvidia Shield. That got a major software upgrade just prior to this happening and is the only change that occurred in my system recently. Now it's been running for about an hour without an issue.

I think the upgrade occurred on Thursday, and that day I only spent a lot of time watching the Shield and nothing else. However Friday, Saturday and Sunday I used the DVR most of the time. Friday I started watching the Shield for a bit, then I switched inputs on the receiver to the DVR and the projector shut off at that point. Everything runs through the receiver but I'm guessing those HDMI connections are live to most devices most of the time. I'm thinking that when I powered on the projector and receiver the Shield detected it, even though it wasn't in use. It started its sleep timer and after 30 minutes it turns off the projector as it believes nothing is being used since it received no commands. And every time I restarted the projector it would restart the timer on the Shield.

I certainly hope the problem is fixed. While I wouldn't mind upgrading to one of those 4k-like projectors I'm not quite ready to do that yet, and I'm hoping to sell the 5030 to help cover some of the costs.

Sorry, missed that post somehow.
Allthough its quit weird that some other device can turn off projector which is receiving signal at the time?
