That I found out it can't do because the receiver I have does not support HDMI 1.3.

One option is to get a 3D blu ray player with two HDMI outputs. Sony makes one, I have the Oppo 103. My AVR doesn't do 3D either, so I have one hdmi going to the PJ and one to the AVR for sound. Then I also have an HDMI from the AVR for everything else.

What pushed me towards the oppo (among other things) was that the 2nd hdmi also does video- so I can watch my 2D blu rays through the AVR which has its 2nd output going to my plasma. But if you're not running two displays the cheaper Sony would work just as well.

IMO sharper image, more film like, better blacks, and overall just a more refined image. It is an improvement but how much only you can decide.

thanks!
i also discovered i have the green pixel line only on my tv video source -- so rules out the pj issue, imo.
however, when i use the "pattern" on the projector, the bottom test pattern line is green and the one on the rightmost side is yellow near the bottom. i can not adjust that... so, it still makes me wonder if something is amiss.

Interesting! They told you Sunday? They told me the warehouse will receive around 24ish 5030UBs on November 1st so then from the 1st until it arrives to the store itll be a few more business days. Not counting weekends. I dont think the trucks will deliver on Saturday or Sunday. They told me estimated date of arrival is on Tuesday November 5. But thats pretty cool if you do get yours on Sunday though. I hope thats the case cause I want my PJ ASAP! I just hope I ordered/reserved my PJ before other people so that I get first dibs on it. Because if someone else gets the first wave of 5030UBs we might have to wait a few more weeks until Magnolia receives more.

Just purchased my 5030ub from BB yesterday (10/30), scheduled to arrive 11/2.
Won't be able to set it up till prbly mid November though, when the rest of the mounts/screen arrive.
First HT project so let's see how it goes! Will keep everyone updated.

What was Best Buy's price. I want to give the 5030 a try, but need a friendly/easy return policy.

Edit.. nevermind posting it. Pretty easy to find on the website.

You might want to get the two year protection plan from Best Buy for $349 and then go pick up your replacement bulb that's included in the plan ... that normally costs $299 per the Epson website. I got that advice my the local Best Buy Magnolia guy.

How did you get $500 off?

You sure you didn't buy a Slepson from the back of a white van?

Why would you pay $349 for a bulb that's normally $299 if that's your aim. True, you'll get the protection plan but Epson's warranty is already great. They'll overnight or two day ship your projector if there's an issue. With Best buy, you have to deal with Geek Squad.

Probably had coupon and reward zone certificate.

I got mine for $2599 - $259.90 (10% off coupon) - $100 I had originally had - $120 I received from the 5030UB purchase using the bestbuy credit card which I used towards the purchase = $2119.10 tax free (Delaware). How was I able to apply the second $120 reward zone certificate? Well, I pre-ordered the project at the end of September or beginning of October. Bought it for $2599 - 10% off. Since I paid with my best buy credit card, I got $120 back in reward zone cert. When I went to pick it up Oct 18th, I was able to applied all my cert to the order so they took off another $220 from the two certificate.

Hi-
I got mine tonight at Best Buy in CA. Its installed and looks awesome.
However, here is one interesting problem.
My Onkyo 605 is not 3d capable, so I am splitting the signal out of my Playstation with a 3D capable splitter, with one signal going straight to the projector, and one straight to the Onkyo.
When I boot the playstation I get sound and video, if I insert a 2D Blu-Ray I get sound and video, insert a 3d Blu-Ray (which looks freakin awesome btw) I get great 3D video, but no sound, Onkyo display says "No Signal"
Any ideas?

It's probably rejecting the whole stream since it can't process 1.4 signals. You'll need to have a player that can handle splitting the output appropriately.

Download my IR hex codes for the Denon AVR-4810ci and other Denon receivers here.
For Logitech Harmony support, ask Logitech for the Denon receiver in the account kmickunas.

Thank Keith
Any recommendations for a player that will?
I guess if I have to buy a high end player, I may as well just upgrade my receiver.

Oppos have double HDMI outputs. There is also one Sony version that does it but i dont know the model of the Sony. Someone mentioned that Sony Blu Ray player earlier in this thread. Youll find it if you read back.. However Oppos have better video quality then your normal run of the mill Blu Ray Player... So i hear. I haven't seen one in action yet. So it all depends if you want superb excellent video and audio quality from your blu rays. Or if your satisfied with the PS3 Blu ray quality. If your satisfied with your PS3 I recommend upgrading your receiver. If you want nicer quality check out the Oppos. But those run for around $500+ Dollars. I've seen a lot of people claim quality is much better on the Oppos and I dont doubt it considering their extravagant prices.

Sony, Panasonic, and Oppo all have dual output options. I have the Oppo and it's just in a different class- for many reasons. Blu Ray quality is NOT dramatically different from my Sony player. You do get some higher end video processing, just like different displays have different image processing options. We're talking fine tuning here, not night and day. DVD up conversion IS night and day better. It also is lightning fast all around. It also fit some specific needs for me the others didn't. HDMI inputs mean I can add a 3D gaming system without upgrading my AVR. It also means I can do PIP with another HDMI source since the Oppo is on one 5030 input and my AVR on the other. Two year warranty doesn't hurt either. The plastic imports seem to be disposable these days. My first player- a Panasonic, made it just past the warranty and died. $75 diagnostic fee for a $100 player- in the trash it goes. The down side to the Oppo is the massive price tag.

I haven't seen PS3 but I've heard that most people prefer a dedicated player over the PS3 picture quality.

Finally received my 5030ub last night and have been exploring the difference between it and my old 8500ub. There are a couple of settings that I don't understand what they really do and how to implement them correctly and the Epson Users Guide isn't very helpful.

And someone elaborate on the following:

3D Format
3D Depth
Diagonal Screen Size (I have a 106" screen and that isn't an option. It goes from 100 to 110)
Motion Detection
HDMI Link
Deinterlacing (should I just leave it on Film/Auto?)

Thanks for any info you guys may have!!

Any 5030 users, do you hear the iris at all in action? Do you see any visual effect, pumping or any change in picture. I've set mine off, normal, and high, and see no difference what so ever nor do I hear anything. I went to YouTube to see/hear the iris of 5020 in action and you can hear a grinding noise which is typical. I know the iris is supposed to be improved on the 5030 but completely silent?

That's awsome! I work in Lake Forest IL and love ABT. Looks like I may be heading there in the near future seeing I'll need a 5030ub and av reciever plus some speakers. My ABT card may get some use once again!

This is the route I'd take (and I have). If you add another 3D capable device (media player, 3D HTPC), you'll be faced with a similar problem. If you can live with a receiver at about $500, it seems an easier choice than an Oppo. (I love my Oppo 93, BTW, so I'm not dissin' Oppo. They make great players. )

After watching several dark and bright scenes with the iris off, normal and high, I have my suspicions as I could also not hear anything or detect any difference in contrast.  Maybe JewDaddy or Zombie can help us out on this one.
