Thanks!

This still the JVC to go with? What Panasonic model? Any big things you are giving up with those when coming from the 5030?

Thanks!

The JVC DLA-RS46 and the Panasonic PT-AE8000U both have lens memory for easier use with anamorphic lenses and scope screens. The JVC will give you a better overall picture IMO over the Panny but the Epson is right there with the JVC for picture quality.

All anyone has to do to prove my point is start calling around and asking questions about different brands and also go in person in some cases; It is Mindboggling what these clows will tell you in order to make a sale

That is certainly my usual experience with most salespeople, but have to give a shout out to Mike Garrett here at the AV Science shop. I was looking for the Sony HW55ES as an upgrade to my Sony Pearl that I've had since very late 2006. He asked me if I was interested in the HW50 B Stock that will cost me MUCH less. I said no, originally. I wanted the latest model. He said he could order one of those and he quoted me a good price. I called him back a few minutes later and asked him if the HW50 was still avail at that price and he said yes, so I ordered it. The specs on the two models are identical except for CR which we know is often cooked. I'm probably going to upgrade to a 4K/2160p projector in a year or two, so why not take the money and run and get Spousal kudos?

I got no hard sell from Mike, he listened to what I wanted and offered up a suggestion that will probably net less profit for AVScience, but I got the distinct impression that he actually cared about me as a customer. Which is what I've been hearing a lot about these guys over the many years I've been browsing AVS.

Is anyone using a Peerless PRG universal mount with the Epson 5030? If so, can you tell me how well it fits & the ease of installation?

Thanks!

I just purchased and installed it with the extension pole and I could be happier. Previously, I had an Acer H9500BD mounted with a 'cheap' $35 ceiling mount. It suspended the projector from the ceiling, but that was about it. Once I got the Epson 5030 I wanted to go with something a little more substantial. The moment I picked up the box that carried the Peerless, the weight of it reassured me that I made the right decision. This is a quality piece of equipment. I installed into my ceiling joists and it was a breeze. The 'gear' adjustment knobs work as advertised. Once you make even the slightest adjustment, it is locked into place. I again, I couldn't be happier with the Peerless mount or the Epson, of course.

Can you compare the Epson to the Acer? I currently have the Acer 9500 and was wondering if the Epson is a big upgrade.
Thanks

There are 41 posts in this thread that mention Peerless. It's the most commonly recommended mount here. Just search a little and you'll find all you need to know about it.

There's a huge difference between the two and I'm not overstating it. After I fired up the Epson, my wife's 1st comment was, "wow, this is a way better projector"! The Acer was my 1st projector and I was impressed with the picture quality, but after awhile, I began to scrutinize it with a more educated eye. My media room has some (not a lot) of ambient light and the Acer struggled with displaying a good image. The extra lumens of the Epson handles the lighting with no problem. I use living room mode during the day and THX at night. Another huge plus is the ability to save your calibrated settings. I like the fact that I can have customized, calibrated settings for each type of viewing (day, night, gaming, sports, etc). I heard so much about the black level of the Epson and there is a noticeable difference between the two. If you go with the Epson, you will NOT be disappointed.

We're trying to setup the new Epson 6030 and are having difficulty getting it to align with the screen.

We have a 16:9 - 115" SI Black Diamond zero edge.  It is either perfect vertically and hangs over the left & right edge by about 1/2 inch or we change it and it ends up perfect horizontally and hangs over a 1/2 inch on the top and bottom.

Is there something on the remote that can fix this or do we keep playing with the controls under the projector?

Also, anyone used a Black Diamond with this projector?

Make sure you're not using any keystone correction, because that blanks out part of the image and it will no longer fit a 16:9 screen exactly. Of course there's always a chance your screen is not exactly 16:9.

If the problem is really that the picture is not perfectly rectangular, then you just don't have it pointed straight ahead and you have to adjust the mount.

Hi guys,

Looking to get my first projector and after reading around the subject for a while, I think I am happy with the Epson TW9200 / 5030UB.

I am going to America next week, so was wondering if it's worth picking one up whilst I'm over there as they work out to be about £1000 cheaper!

1. Does anyone here have any experience with getting a projector from America and bringing it back to the UK? Does it work fine etc.

2. Has anyone done this with an Epson projector in the past and faced an problems/issues? Does the UK warranty cover it?

I'm new to this forum, but it's been very helpful so far, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Dee

In all the research I am doing for the Epson 5030, I keep seeing DLA-X35 mentioned.

Does anyone know how these really compare in real life situations?
I would like to have 3D for my daughter, is the Epson really that much better at 3D?

This will be my first projector. For now, I would like to have decent 3D, and then a nice bright, clear, dark blacks picture for normal viewing (2D).

Supposedly these are close in price to?

How'd you get that mount to work with the Epson 5030?  The 5030's holes are almost 13.5 inches apart.  Thanks!

==> NEVERMIND… found the specs and answered the question… the "8.7-inch to 12.8-inch" length is the ARM length, not the distance between holes.  BINGO!  Looks like a solid mount.  Thanks!

+1. I’d add that if you want an easy way to rotate the PJ, use a small (3 inch) pole to attach to the mount via a ceiling plate. Them to adjust the PJ for rotation (important for getting the PJ perpendicular to the screen) all you have to do is rotate the whole assembly on the pole and then lock into position with the pole's locking screw. This is usually easier and smoother than trying to rotate the entire mount and ceiling plate in one.

The Peerless is all you say it is. Superbly engineered unit.

LOL... Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. It's a really nice mount. So easy to dial in the correct position. And solid. Works great on ceiling or, as I have it set up, wall mounted.

Hey , I know this has been covered here but my search didn't yeild much.  Looking to get a couple more pairs of 3D glasses. What do people recommend? I seem to remember both of these getting the thumbs up from someone:

Really want to make sure that whatever I get it isn't a lesser experience than the ones that come with it. Incidentally I can't seem to find where to buy / how much the official Epson ones are.

Thanks!

I'm using my 5030UB with a 100" Black Diamond Zero Edge. Mine is 1.4 gain. Installed just before Christmas last year, and had a pretty good picture out of the box. Last week, I had it calibrated by AccuCal after accruing approx 100 hours on the lamp.

Great picture. Could not be more pleased with the performance in both 2D and 3D. This is my first projector setup (coming from a Mitsu DLP 65") and it has exceeded my expectations immensely.

I have 6 pairs of these and they are JUST AS GOOD as the 2 Epsons that come with the 5030. The best part about them is that they fit adult and children's faces well. I usually give the Samsung's to the kids...

I've watched Despicable Me 2 and Wreck It Ralph in 3D with the kiddos and the picture is absolutely amazing. My folks were over to see the kids on Sat. and they even watched about 45 mins of it with all of us. My Dad was just in awe of the PQ on this projector and the audio in my room. And. So. Am. I.

I cannot wait to get Gravity in 3-D. Finally a non-animated movie that I can enjoy in 3-D. biggrin.gif

Awesome. My HT is being finished on Thursday and can't wait to see how it all comes together.  I am trying to decide which calibration disk to get - Disney WOW will probably be the one since it is only $19.99. I will get the Epson ISF calibrated at 100 hours but want to get the best picture I can until then.

Your HT build thread is sweet. Well done.

I lived in Crofton, MD for 7 yrs and loved going to Annapolis. I miss the Amish Market food!

We just received the new Epson projector and have been watching it for a few days.   Everything seemed OK at first but I watch a lot of sports and have just now noticed that when SportsCenter is on and the bottom line updates scroll across it's a little choppy and not smooth if that makes sense.   Then watching games you can also tell there isn't a smooth motion to the games but I heard this projector was supposed to be great w/ watching sports.   Is there something wrong with my projector or has anyone else noticed this issue?

Again, it's really noticeable when you see the bottom ticker on SportsCenter or another cable news program instead of the words/scores rolling across the bottom smoothly it's a little choppy.   Very frustrating but I'm assuming this is fixable?

Check your FI (frame interpolation) setting, and see if using that results in a better picture for you. Epson as well as most of the projector manufacturers have this available - it will smooth out what can be choppy video motion by interpolating new frames. On movies, some people don't like this as it produces what can be an artificial glassiness (some call it the 'soap opera effect'), but it seems to be quite popular for live events and sports.

How are you using as a wall mount? I need to do the same as my ceiling fan will be in the pj's path.
Can you post a picture if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks!
