The new range of JVC projectors isn't officialy out that we already have some gossip on their new model for 2014 - 2015. JVC will come out with an native 4K model that will simulated 8K with E-shift.

http://translate.google.fr/translate?sl=fr&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.projection-homecinema.fr%2F2013%2F09%2F13%2Fun-videoprojecteur-8k-chez-jvc-pour-2014-2015%2F

JVC has lost this year battle against SONY without being able to offer opponents to the VW1000ES or the VW500ES so maybe the fight will start again next year.

Next year, the new economic union rules take effect requiring projector company opponents to wear helmets when fighting. LLoyds of London while lamenting the loss of action this year because JVC can't field a 4K opponent already has odds out for next year's fight.

I think all of this is a little unfair to JVC. The cheapest 4K e-shift machine this year given expect preorder pricing will allow a lot more customers based on financial considerations to see the magic of 4K pixel density on screen. It of course isn't the real thing but based on last year's machines (I haven't seen this year's of course) it is a pretty decent machine. BTW. I couldn't sleep last night, having nightmares of seeing BB in a helmet.

I have seen the pro 4k for JVC and if they are using the same chip some people may disappointed at the contrast. Hopefully they fixed these for next year.

Given the price, not that many people would be in the market and therefor not that many will be disappointed. A street legal car at $2000,000 and only able to go to 0 to 60 MPH in 3.8 seconds instead of 3.4. For a commercial theater machine, high contrast is just not that important.

I've said this a bunch of times already, but if they can keep the current contrast performance by creating an even more efficient light path/optics and get motion handling to the level Sony has, I'm sold. My next purchase would be a JVC and I'd say goodbye to DLP forever. If not my next purchase will definitely go to Sony.

Next year is going to be the best time to buy a projector. New 4K JVCs, b-stock Sony 500/600ES, new cheaper 4K Sony, 4K Blu Ray, and new 4K Oppo and Lumagen. Time to save up

Agreed, or the year after...Which seems odd there is not some kind of compelling reason to buy this years non 4k model...

There is never a best year to buy anything except maybe real estate when the market is depressed or stocks when prices are at the bottom of a stock crash. Re consumer goods, who knows who will be here in a year. At 68, I live for the present.

We haven't even seen this years models yet. Cedia is right around the corner. There could be plenty of reasons to buys a 1080p projector this year.

We need a top ten reasons list.
( Apologies to David Letterman rolleyes.gif )

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a 1080p projector this year !

1. - Can't afford a 4K projector anyway.
2. - Got to have those JVC blacks levels and..
3. - ...got to have them now !
4. - I still watch DVD's .
5. - I only watch crappy streaming services, can't tell the difference.
6. - Gawd, don't make me upgrade all my HDMI stuff again !
7. - 1080p machines are proven projectors at a decent price ( I'm no early adopter ).
8.- I'm happy sticking with 3D 1080p.
9. - I'm still pissed at Sony for the whole HD DVD thing,
10. - The 4K projectors don't come in white to match my ceiling and walls.

Craig,

I think Mark meant a top 10 reasons list to buy a projector this year, not a reason to not buy one. Unless you just quit your sales job. wink.gif

To buy a 1080p projector this year. The list partially supports this and is a good effort. Forums are for refining things like this, at least until Cedia starts and we can get some substance to discuss. I am tired of being the straight non humor guy around here. smile.gif

I'm just joking around - but I'll sell fifty 1080p projectors for every VW1000 - why? price. Most of us can't afford that price point. 1080p still has lots of life left IMO - especially until 4k source material becomes more than a novelty.

Anyway, we won't even know what is available thats new with 100% certainty for 13 days !

And yes - those were reasons to buy a 1080p projector vs a 4K ( or nothing at all ) ! smile.gif

Agreed. Cedia is 20 minutes from my house and I have no compelling reason to go so far this year. Next year sounds like it will be exciting with all the 4k details ironed out, more true 4k options, etc.....wake me up in a year as I am going to take a nap until then. biggrin.gif

JVC has had this 4K panel projector with e-shift for 8K for several years already as prototypes.
It was such a projector they used for showing the NHK 8K video recording of the 2012 summer Olympics in London in selected locations.

(pdf report) They have improved since then with smaller real 8K cameras and HEVC realtime encoder.

The Pro version was shipping in Japan in March for $261,000 without lenses.
JVC Ready To Ship Its Pseudo 8K Projector (march 21~2013).

Hopefully they have made a cheaper "HT" version, but I doubt it.

I'm feeling the same way. Someone needing a new projector will buy one, but for many of us this is the year to skip, given E-shift has been available for a couple of years and the true 4K models and general refresh of the line looks like it should happen next year.
(With the caveat of wondering if JVC did indeed increase the contrast this year employing a DI or whatever).

Not to mention that just because some folks want true 4K to come way down in price in one year doesn't necessarily make that a given. I'd like a new Tesla Roadster for $ 24K too. smile.gif
Anyway, it's certainly a great time for those people just getting into home theater both choice and value wise ( compared to when I started 10 years ago ). Those people will be well served with this years new 1080p projectors.

Thrilling realism means a whole other level above a 4K porn movie. And EVERBODY is a VIP. Seriously, JVC does a very nice job presentation wise in their VIP suite and provides great hospitality. Be sure to take the short walk to it.

For me price is a big issue. Selling my wife on the 50ES was hard enough. Another $1000 or more would not fly with her. I am set for a few years!

It says experience first-hand the thrilling realism of JVC's new UltraHD 4k Reference Series projectors. Do you think they are showing a prototype of next years UHD projector? If so, why is it plural and it does say their new projectors like it is this years models. What am I missing here? I mean I know the thread title is 2014-2015 native 4k w/ 8k eshift rumors but wouldn't if JVC showed a UHD prototype this year cannibalize sales from this years models?
