I took a couple pictures of the HP 2.4 sample, without flash and with flash. There is indeed a fine cross-hatch pattern. The retroreflective glow is pretty wild.

Since this is now an HP screen thread, I will post this. Da-Lite is stopping production on the HCHP material.

Thanks Mike for this great investment tip. Once Da-lite discontinues anything with respect to HP, the discontinued product becomes a classic. Time to put a roll of this HCHP into the vault for cashing in later.

fwiw i have both hp screens..the 2.4 and the 2.8, one mounted behind the other, one electric that rolls up, other on the wall behind..one for scope format one for full size, both same width, 14 feet..I don't see any difference at all from 18 ft view distance in image quality..also you'd be hard pressed to see the brightness difference between the two. both look great and its the perfect material for my setup....still not bright enough for 3d but adequete..great gatsby was pretty good eye candy in 3d...ps..its projected from eye level so as good as it gets..sony 1000es projector..600hrs

OP here. Thank everyone for the helpful discussion!

I am now at the stage of deciding where to mount my (to-be-determined) projector because the contractor wants to reinforce the framing there. The room length is 18'. But there is a 2' passage in the back of the room I can utilize. So with some work, I can have a real 18' throw instead of 16'4". (The downside is that anyone taller than 6' cannot use that passage without head injury). Shall I opt for this, if that could substantially reduce the pincushion problem with a 65"x153" screen?

If I totally give up this A-lens/curved screen stuff and stick with zooming, I can invest all my budget of 10k in a good quality flat screen plus projector. Any recommendations for these? Again, the constraint is the screen size and lens memory is almost a sure thing. Thanks!

I don't think a stand that you attach to any fixed frame screen is going to be very practical for moving into and out of the room. You can look at something like these: http://www.dalite.com/products/product.php?pID=119&cID=11

thanks for the suggestion...however, i am worried of the kind of material used in their pre-fabricated portable vs fixed.

Only thing I can come up with is the following item we sell.
http://www.chiefmfg.com/Series/LPAU

You would need to fasten a couple aluminum bars vertically to the back of any fixed frame screen you purchased. Then fasten the bars to the mount. Then you could roll the screen out of the way. If you want to discuss this idea some more, call me back.

how much are they? i think there are a lot of companies that specialize on this mount. just like the mount for the professional panel display.
