It is interesting the FMP-X10 is available via Amazon at the pre-release price.

B&H Photo also is honoring the pre order price until the 5th. Maybe the big boys did get power buy pricing and the smaller dealers didn't. Anyway, if you want a brick its probably time to order todasy to get the pre order price. I am not going to do it.

Sony 4K and 110" Screen

Hey Guys, i'm new to the forum!!!
I've been looking around at the Sony VW600ES and it seems it is available online for a little less than retail but i'm not sure i trust the retailers.
Anyone have any luck with finding a deal on this?
I've also been looking at the Stewart Cima or Custom FireHawk Screen and the Screen Innovations Black Diamond screens.
Love to hear your feedback and suggestions on where to buy.
Thanks

You aren't the only one hanging your head in shame Mark.
I foolished relied on the specs from the seller (B&H Photo) who I am buying it off. Serves me right I guess for not checking the Sony site.

Hi,

It is possible to switch the projector from Low Lamp to High Lamp from a universal remote control?

My remote is a Harmony 1100 but in the Harmony database there no direct command I can call to do that.

I ordered the brick off Amazon. I was able to apply $45 in gift cards/offers and that brought the price down a bit. I was going to buy direct from Sony until they added 10% sales tax, which is crazy because we don't have any B&M Sony stores in my state. I didn't have my 500ES when the puck came out. Going to see how it works.

You do. There is only one way they can be read. The problem was that what some of read were not the actual specs, but B&H Photo's version of them which was not correct. At this time, the video and audio quality of the puck and the brick should be exactly the same. The brick adds H.265 which will be useful when content using it becomes available and the brick adds UHD streaming if the piss poor quality of such is what one seeks. and you don't need the Sony tablet to use it.

Question Next Year's Model?

Sorry if this is buried in the thread somewhere I haven't seen yet, but do we yet know when the replacement for the VW600ES is coming out, or anything about the next model? I think we're moving toward the point in the calendar when info about the 2015 models would start to leak into public view.

Thanks.

The best guess is a new entry level 4K from Sony at about $7500 at Cedia.

Great. Thanks for the intel. As long as there are no downgrades from the 600ES, I'll be glad I waited. I'll probably be making the upgrade (from my 7.5 year old JVC RS1) early next year.

Do we yet know if JVC is releasing a TRUE 4K model in 2015?

We won't know until CEDIA (this september) at the earliest.

It clearly will not be as good as the 600ES. You can expect lower lumens, a lower contrast level, and a lens of less quality. It will be a step down from the 600ES but hopefully not a huge step down. we will know alot before cedia because it will be inytroduced I suspect at the show in berlin which I think is a week earlier.

The projector that Mark is guessing about, is not the replacement for the 600. It would be for a model below the 600. So think what features you would have to delete to get the price down. I would guess, lower cost lens and all manual controls of the lens. in other words, no lens memory.

I'm not willing to lose many lumens or any quality to save money. I am targeting a 135" 2.35 screen. Hopefully there will either be an actual successor to the 600ES or, at a minimum, the price for the 600ES will fall.

Either way, this is a good time to be in the market for a new projector.

I doubt there will be a successor. I expect the 600 to run for two years, before replacement.

Thanks, Mike. Since I'm moving to a 2.35 screen, I HAVE TO have lens memory.

Are you aware of any info on a planned successor to the 600ES, or are the rumors only related to the cheaper unit?

You've gotten your moneys worth out of your RS1 - 7 years is pretty good! You deserve a VW600 at this point I'd say.

I agree with Mike and Craig. With a new model coming at say $8K MSRP there shouldn't be much downward price movement on the $600. There could be some.

Any reason to believe that there'll be an upgraded 600 model coming out at the end of this year?

Let us put it another way. Brazil after losing its semifinal match has a better chance of still winning the world' cup on Sunday than Sony replacing the 600 this year.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the new Nvidia beta update for the newer Nvidia video cards allows 3840x2160 over the HDMI 1.4 cable. For PC gaming, it's awesome! I have a decent rig and have been playing last years Tomb Raider, and at that resolution, it's awesome. So video and everything will work. I believe the work around was 4:2:0 but for gaming at least, I don't see any difference quality wise, but I do see a nice 60 fps.

That is so sad... 7-1

I guess the answer to the question 'What would Brasil do without Neymar?' have been answered...

Ron from ProjectorReviews mentioned that Epson is coming up with a 4K projector this year.

What I actually said was the 5030 replacement will not be a 4K model, but Epson's new flagship models MAY be 4K, but there are other possibilities for their new flagship models that could justify their 2X (or more) price compared to the current 5030 and 6030 (or their replacement models).
