You are correct. It should have been, “It would be hard for me to speculate what the UHD BD specs will be knowing the industry is in such a state of UHD flux.” Example, some key players is still MIA in the MPEG-LA HEVC/H.265 list. Will it include components from Dolby Vision, etc.

Has anyone had their voucher for the free glasses accommodated in an actual Sony store, or is it an online exclusive deal? I see no option for local pickup in the shopping cart and when I called my local Sony store, I don't think they knew what I was talking about.

For those experimenting with input lag, you may want to try HDMI input 2 instead of input 1. On game mode with RC and dynamic iris both off, I'm noticing subjectively less lag... I plan to do some actual testing and get some real numbers this weekend if time allows, but it was perceptible enough that I thought I'd mention it here. Note that the projector stores separate settings for each preset+input combo, so you'll have to turn off RC and any other image processing features manually again when trying the other input.

Just got back from the Sony store here in Vegas. I called earlier and someone told me that they would accept the coupon. When I got to the store and gave the voucher to the manager, she had a perplexing look on her face like she had never seen anything like it in her career with Sony. At the end of the day they refused to honor it so I just bought them anyway. Now I still have the voucher to deal with and will sell the glasses once ordered. That sony store is a joke, are they all like this?

I was at the Vegas sony store demo a vw1000es. I asked them is there any discount off the $25k msrp. They just laughed at me. They said this 4k projector and the big 4k tv is only made to order from japan.

I think I just saw that projector mounted in the back demo room. It is more narrow than the 600es, right? I don't get their arrogance. The manager was just so happy to inform me the voucher was no good in her store, so I just bought them and did not give her the satisfaction of turning me down. Besides, I waited an hour in strip traffic for the glasses anyway and now I need a good 3D movie to justify the time and money spent.

My theater should be done In two weeks and I am curious of a few things. On the 600es, how does xbox or playstation look. Not only will I lock myself in the soundproof room to watch movies, but I also want to play games! Also, I am using Klipsch pro cinema speakers and 2 klipsch custom subs. Currently I have the mx-121 Mc but am wondering if I should invest in some other receiver/amp combo. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I want this setup to be as perfect as possible. All of this is being set up professionally in north jersey so I won't be messing it up! Thanks in advance

Just thinking out loud... No Mcintosh processor has 4K pass through or up conversion capabilities. Maybe it's a non-issue for you, but that's what came to mind.
Doesn't seem that "future proofing" is even possible now days.

I will be checking out some xbox later today and report back.
Right now trying to get my htpc and xbmc to play right. I have it going to pioneer sc-79 with pass through and video processing turn off.
Having several issues.
1. Projector is showing 480/60p under the info icon. Don't know that's just what the pioneer is reporting to it or if it's real. The xbmc interface does look like ****,
But the movies look ok when it does play. In xbmc it is reporting 24 for refresh rate and the nvidia control panel is set for 1080p/24
2. Can't just turn on receiver and look at the htpc without unplugging the hdmi to the projector several times. Most likely a handshake issue, so got fix that.
Not an issue with my oppo 103 which is also on the receiver.
Any other htpc users out there?

Ok fixed my issue in my receiver, I thought I had turned off the up conversion, but I didn't. So that fixed it.

Everyone keeps saying cause it has to up covert to 4K, the lag is very noticeable. Better off with a 1080 projector.

Do any of you have both the VPL-VW600ES and the OPPO BDP-103, as I do? I'm wondering which of them should perform the upconversion of Blu-ray to 4K.

I know what you'll say: try them both and see which looks better. I was just wondering what the conventional wisdom was on this pair of components. I would expect a $15k projector to outperform a $500 BDP at scaling to its own native resolution. But OPPO seems so proud of their QDEO processor.

Secondary question: whether to bypass the OPPO video processing and just set it to Source Direct?

Thanks for any words of wisdom other than "try them all and see which looks better". :o

I have both. If you use the Oppo, the Sony will see 4k and won't do a vertical stretch (only an issue if u have an anamorphic lens) which I do!!

The Oppo will not output 4k 60. So if you have any 60 input sources such as 720p or 1080i, you will cause the sony to se only 30 and lose every other frame. if you have 1080p 24 or 30, you can use the Oppo to output $k 24 or 30, but the Sony will blank out many of the menu features because its 4K processing power is quite limited say motion flow and various film mode wise is quite limited. Your question of which does the better upscaling of 1080p 24 or 30 to UHD or 4K 24 or 30 I can't answer..

Well audioguy you did not make my day. I have the same equipment as you have with the 103D on the way. Now I find out I will not be able to use the Oppo with my anamorphic. Not good, I was counting on the Oppo for supposed better upscaling than the 500ES.
So, are you are saying any feed from the oppo cannot be upscaled or can you turn it off scaling and let the PJ do that ?

Same problem that has been discussed many times in this thread and the 1000 thread. There is no such device currently made that can do vertical stretch of 4K material. With 4K, you have to use the zoom method. At least until Lumagen comes out with a video processor that can do 4K stretch or until/if Folded Space is approved for BD and 4K BD. If Folded Space makes it's way into BD and 4K BD, then you will not need to do any vertical stretch.

I just installed my 600 and I do not have the server or a 4k receiver. So by running the HDMI through the receiver the video will not be up scaled ?

If you have the AVR set to pass through (that is how it should be set), then all scaling will be done by the projector.

Those are two custom klipsch pro cinema subs and speakers are same (not custom) better pics of subs...I am going to run video from sony server direct to the 600 and audio through Mcintosh 121 and mcintosh 7 channel amp. There is really no other 4k content to worry about right now so other video like blue ray and games etc can just go through Mcintosh. I'll switch everything up when more 4k content pops up.

I use a couple 18" pro drivers for mid bass subs for 60hz to 120hz. I use them with four sealed HT subs (3-18" drivers and 2-12" drivers) for the lower frequencies. Also using pro audio for my speakers, but they are DIY. What you have, should make for a nice system. smile.gif

Thanks I sure hope so. I don't have the skill to do something like this myself so I am relying on professional folks to do all the work. Starting to come together. Cannot wait to see this projector and hear this setup..

Why would hdmi 2 be better than 1 for lag. I'm connected on hdmi 1, set to game mode, turned off RC, and had my xbox 360 going into the hdmi in on my oppo 103. The oppo was set to output 4k.
Unfortunately, there still is enough lag to make playing a game like Gears of War, or anything that requires quick button presses, a no go. Maybe an adventure game is possible but that's about it.
Like someone else said, need a different projector for gaming most likely. Hmm, now which one to get?

Is there a way to rename the custom aspect ratios to something besides "Custom 1", "Custom 2", etc.?
