My RS35 has 2900+ hours and I'm now receiving the "bulb replacement" warning. So far I've had no issues (with either the bulb or the projector). It still seems bright enough for me (but I have no way to measure spectral or gamma changes).
Do I need to replace the lamp (why is JVC "bothering" me with this message)? Is there some risk to the projector if I don't replace the lamp?
A few owners have reported seeing the stripe after installing a new lamp. Problem is the new lamp did not cause this. The new lamp was just so much brighter that it made the stripe that the owner did not know was there, show up more.

The lamp should run just as hot no matter the age as it draws the same amount of power regardless of age. What causes the magenta (or sometimes another color) stripe to occur is the glue used to seal the optical block wearing down over time, most likely from all the heat, which can cause the block to shift slightly which projects the color band people see on screen. Unless you're forcefully jamming the new lamp in you shouldn't worry about causing the issue.
