I was thinking of starting out with a new lamp, but the manual states "no user replaceable parts" and to contact your dealer for bulb changes. Is this true? My pj will be long out of warranty and I'm pretty handy if someone knows how. Otherwise, I should've had the seller change the bulb as they are a Sim2 dealer. As for the rest, I'll let you all know about it when I receive it.

You should be able to order a new lamp from AVS and replace it yourself no problem.

There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

So, I got the HT3000e setup and connected this morning, always a chore with a porthole in the back of your room...the auto zoom and focus is soooo nice, too bad almost any pj retailing for under $20K doesn't have this. I'm surprised to find that this unit does indeed have a pronounced color convergence issue (CA) that is worse than my old InFocus SP8602 but its only visible on single pixel test patterns used for focusing. The focus is spot on per-pixel all the way across which makes it appear sharper than the 8602 and this thing is easily as bright as my old 8602 which was a ray of sunlight (both pjs have similar hours). The blacks look similar but hard to tell without total blackout in the room, will report back if anything changes tonight. My wife walked through and said it looked "crisper" than the old one and she usually doesn't notice such things so a big check in the sharpness upgrade department.

I'll put on some Harry Potter and the Dathly Hallows Pt. 2 tonight and see if it wilts under tha black level demands like the 8602 did on this film. With motorized zoom and focus I'm seriously thinking about buying an additional screen in 2.35:1 for the immersion, that is, if the black levels are good enough to be distracting. I look for a small but noticeable improvement from 8602.

I wonder when the last time was you shopped projectors?

Motorized zoom, lens shift, focus and even multiple pre-sets have been standard on lots of sub-$20K projector for years now (JVC, Sony, Panasonic.)

Glad to hear it arrived safely. I think you'll be pleased overall especially if you basically swapped this projector for the Infocus price wise. Sim2 knows their stuff. I was very tempted to bid on this projector but decided not to ultimately. The good thing is that this Sim2 doesn't use a dynamic iris like the 8602 which means if your black level is similar you should have a more stable looking picture during dark scenes. I think over time you'll appreciate this more and more.

Yes, I watched World War Z blu-ray last night and some HDTV. I'm surprised that its so sharp I can see some stair stepping on large text, its not distracting I think I was just really concentrating on how sharp it was, and , I doubt I've ever seen a projector with as good of per-pixel focus. In the blacks department, it easily bests my old 8602 and I realized later I was running in high lamp and uncalibrated. Total fade to blacks were slightly better than the 8602 with its iris on. Mixed scenes were good and the super rich looking colors were really impressive. I stopped watching critically about halfway through and got sucked into the shows...I'll be keeping this one a while.
