Thanks!
I have not come across any info in these threads about dust blobs being more common in the 6030 than other projectors.

Talking Finally my home theater room is done

I have spent countless hours on AVSForum in order to research on which Projector I should buy. Last month I decided to go to Epson 6030UB and designed my home theater room around it. Boy, am I happy? VERY VERY HAPPY! The entire family is in the basement since last 6 days and have watched 24 movies so far. Last night I went to Alamo and watched Unbroken. At every moment, i compared how good my Epson Projector look as compared to Alamo!!

Here is my set up;

Projector: Epson 6030UB (BestBuy $3,490)
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V675 (Amazon $299.99)
Blu-ray: Sony BD6200 (Bought out of BestBuy's Reward for buying projector)
Screen: 120" Fixed Screen by SilverTicket (Amazon $275)
Paint: Painted the screen with DIGITAL1CRYSTAL 5.0 FIRST CLASS 4K (Direct $240)
Remote: Harmony 650 (Amazon $50)
Speakers: This was the best part. After listening to many speakers, I went to Bic America speakers. 2 x PL-89II Floor standing speakers, PL-28II Central Channel speaker, PL-200 subwoofer, 4 x HT-8C ceiling speakers. (Acoustic Sound Designs $1,350)
Calibration: Disney's WOW DVD and calibrated myself (Amazon $18)
Furniture: Parker dual unit console (Rakuten $169)

The entire set up works great!!!! Just waiting for my Darblet to complete the home theater. My in laws have spent over 50k on their home theater but they loved mine more than their set up, this goes a long way to prove how good this is.

I must thank each and every member of AVSforum to help me in selecting these though. All credit goes to them.

Nice setup and it is a great projector. Have it in the living room but looking forward to build a dedicated room which will be an extra build outside. Hope to do this the next 2 years.

Moneysh, congrats on the stellar purchase.

Yours was the same reaction I had when I first got mine about 4-5 months ago. Having lived with it for a few months now, you'll be happy to know that that jaw-dropping impression is still there! I love how natural colors actually look natural and on true reference quality films the picture is detailed, sharp and drop-dead stunning. Everyone who sees this system is blown away :-)

Enjoy.

Welcome to the family. Have you done the firmware upgrade to v111? It is well worth it.

Still tweaking my 6030 and it seems like I am losing picture on the top. It's not bleeding over the edge, it just seems to be cut off for some reason. Does this make any sense? I'm not sure what would be doing this. I have it in anamorphic mode. I don't think it's my lens, but I need to double check.

I currently have an Epson 3010. After 3 years it went bad on me. Thinking about upgrading but it is worth an extra $2k? Will I see a big difference?

I'm thinking about the 6030. How will it look on my screen? I have a DALIGHT 110 INCH 16X9 ASPECT SCREEN JKP AFFINITY.

I can't decide between the 6030 or the JVC - RS4910. Thoughts????

Might be out a hair, but it's largely square. I need to run a few comparisons before I continue sounding the alarm.

What threw me was the Oppo screen saver. When the Oppo logo bounces around my screen, 50% of the logo disappears off the screen on top but remains fully visible at the bottom. Any Oppo owners out there that can confirm I have an issue or not?

Thanks!
For the past year I've had mine in an environment that has produced a fair amount of dust and debris and have had no such issues.

To better explain, it's in a room where I have ripped up carpet, layed tile, installed cabinets and a counter, drilled a bunch of holes in the sheet rock to hang poster frames, cut about 50 sheets of velvet fabric to 20x30 to wrap over foam board and mount on the ceiling, and probably a bunch of other crap. It's gotten fairly dusty at times, never cover the projector other than the automatic lens. No issues.

If I buy a 6030 today.... Shouldn't it come with the latest firmware?
So I shouldn't have to update.... Right?

That's not normal. I have an Oppo 103 and the logo never leaves my screen as it bounces off the 4 edges.

You may have to do the upgrade. I did so and followed the directions to a T and there were no issues.

I am pretty sure I am going to purchase the 6030..... I am also thinking about upgrading my BluRay player...

What do you guys think?

I am thinking about purchasing an Oppo 103. I am not sure if I should get the Darbee or not. Until earlier today I didn't even know what the Darbee was...... So I am trying to learn. What do you guys think? Darbee or no Darbee?

I currently have an Epson 3010 projector but I am upgrading to the Epson 6030. I have a

I have the Oppo 103 and love it. For $100 more you get the Darbee included. Most people with the 103D seem to use the setting around 20%-30% to enhace the picture. I have never seen the Darbee in action but for the exta $100 it may be worth it....
I would check out the Oppo 103/103D thread here on AVS. So much info there it is mindboggling. Oppo is a great Blu ray with great customer service.

The guy that I buy my stuff from and does my installation said he is not a fan of the Darbee. He said I don't need it. I don't think I will get it.

He told me $475 for the Oopo 103 and $2,600 for the Epson 6030. Does that sound fair?

The Oppo 103 sells for $500 and the Epson 6030 sells for $3,500 so those prices for new equipment are very good, especially the 6030.

I had an Epson 6010 for 3 years and loved the Darbee paired with it made a BIG difference. I recently upgraded to an Epson 5030 and ended up turning the Darbee setting very low, I'm thinking with the improvements Epson made with the new firmware that the Darbee just isn't as important. Or at least that's what my eyes tell me. I'm thinking of selling the Darbee, I have it set so low that I really don't think it's making much difference when I look at their various demo modes.

Epson's new firmware comes with the new Darbee-like processing...detail enhanced super resolution. It really works wonders. You will not need the Darbee.

Is my bulb about to go?

I have ~3500 hrs on my original 6030 bulb. I would estimate that ~3200 of those hrs are NORMAL mode hrs (so, ~300 hrs on ECO). My Epson 6030 PJ is my primary display at all times in my living room, and I use NORMAL mode because of ambient light that is nearly impossible to get rid of. I also work lots of night shifts and use it almost extensively during the daylight hours when I am either home or off from work.

Over the last few viewings, I have started to see rapid fluctuations in brightness across my screen (somewhat like blinking brighter and darker and it is VERY noticeable on a white background). My bulb indicator on the 6030 itself has not lit up as of yet, and I am getting no prompts telling me that my bulb needs to be replaced. I know its rated UP TO 4000 hrs in NORMAL mode, so I do know that I am running short on time, which is ok to me, as I planned for this upon my initial purchase.

Thinking of swapping out the bulb when getting home today...unless somebody thinks that it could be another issue?

----Update: Changed out the bulb and all is well....running in ECO mode for now....

Yep, that flickering is a sure sign your bulb has very little time left. Sometimes a message comes on the screen to warn you and sometimes it just pops and goes out without warning but you will not get the rated hours of a lamp - ever. I have had several projectors, including the 6030 (which is still on the original bulb) and I have never gotten close to the listed anticipated number of hours. In fact, closer to half the hours before I notice the brightness level falling off. If I can get 3500 hours on this bulb the way you have, I would be a very, very happy person.

Gravity was the 1st 3D movie I watched. Damn, the fan was noisy. In 2D, I don't notice the fan. The dbs really ratcheted up in 3D mode. Do I need to just get used to this or was there something going on?

The fan is noisier in 3D when it goes into high/bright mode compared to ECO mode. Mine sits above my head a few feet (6030) but does not bother me, even in quiet scenes.

Exclamation Epson 6030UB Question on Throw Distance

I am trying to put a 110" screen in my 12x24" room, however I have a soffit so I need to keep the projector around 13' back 10' back would be ideal. I have been trying to calculate the distance on the Epson website but I get different answers each time and I am not sure which is correct. Will 10' be OK for a 110" screen or do I need to go 100" or move it back? Please help! We are close to putting the electric in the ceiling!

10' back (lens to screen) will give you a maximum 102" diagonal picture.

To get a 110" picture, the lens would have to be 10'10" or more from the screen.

I would go a few inches beyond that to give you a little flexibility. If your installation is just a little off, you might not fill the screen otherwise.

My projector is 18 ft from my 110" screen (just behind the second row) and fills the 110" screen no problem. My ceiling height is 7.5 ft with the projector lens sitting at about 6.5 ft.
The room is 12.5ft x 22ft. Pinehurst Theater Build

Hello all, I am very new to projectors but have done countless hours of my own research. I had narrowed it down to the Sony vpl hw40es and the Epson 5030ub until I ventured down to my local av store. The gentleman there advised me that they had a refurbished Epson 6030 with brand new bulb and all factory warranty plus parts for $2400. Should there be any hesitation on pulling the trigger for a 6030 that has been refurbished? Thank you for any and all replys.
