Hello,

It looks like you've had this for almost 2 months.  Are you still happy with this projector and was it worth it to have the installer do the Quality Check?

How do you like the Oppo Blue Ray?

Any suggestions on HDMI cable?

Thanks

I've had it about six weeks, and watched Blu-rays, football and hockey.

Very happy with the projector. The picture is so good, I still haven't calibrated it, just moved all settings to off or 0.

I like how fast the Oppo 103D loads discs and I like the integrated Darbee (I've had the Darbee 5000 since 2012).

I get all my HDMI cables from Monoprice and haven't had a problem.

I don't have a dealer in my area for IRule - is it worth setting up myself?   I was just going to use one of those $400-$500 remotes but I'd love to set up the lights and everything else on my phone if it's not very expensive.   It's the first I've heard of it and I'm getting my projector in a week or two.

Thanks

Do you know how far down the projector hangs with the included ceiling mount?  I can't seem to find the specs online?  We are mounting it inside a soffit so I wanted to make sure the hole was large enough to hang it from the ceiling.   Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I'd guess around 10" from ceiling to lens. You can always add an extension if you need to, I did.

I measured - the center of the lens is about 13.25 inches from the ceiling.

Hi guys-I have had my 6030 for about a week now and was wondering about settings. I'd like to ask you if the following impressions of mine are seen by you also.
I must preface the following by saying that I am using black-out cloth (temporarliy) as my screen and it is 110" diag, 1.78 aspect and that this is the first projector that I have owned, so not really sure what to expect from it.
1) In Dynamic mode, there appears to be a high Green tint, even the menu lettering is greenish.
2) THX seems to have reddish skin tones.
3) Blu-ray movies don't seem to have the detail (sharpness) that I am used to seeing with my 55"LED tv. I have the super res set at 2. It looks very much like in a theater (which I guess is the point of it), guess I'd say a soft image.
The reviews of the 6030 in projectorcentral and projector reviews both give settings for THX for the projectors that they tested, and both are significantly different; I know that each projector is different, but in THX mode they both say it was pretty accurate, yet offer different settings. One of them did mention the greenish tint on Dynamic and gave RBG settings, but even with the G setting changed to -10, still shows the menus as being greenish.
4) Also, total newbie question-when I first start up my projector and an image from the Blu-ray player or my AVR is projected, it is green and dim for about a minute-then things seem to brighten and the color comes in-I am assuming that this is just the normal time for the bulb to warm-up, would that be correct?
Sorry for what to most of you are "basic, ie dumb" questions-just trying to learn.
Also, nobody in my area that does ISF calibrations that I am aware of-my dealer just says he will use the HD Basic disc to set it up.
Thanks

I'm sure the "black out cloth" is a part of the softness.

1) Yes, Dynamic is not color accurate some green is normal. It's meant for extra brightness. I use it for football games.
2) might be your "black out cloth" or calibration is needed
3) 55" LCD will look sharper than 110" projection...but wait to reserve judgment until you have a proper screen and have it set up correctly (projector square, focused, warmed up, proper distance from screen etc)
4) Normal warm up

Not dumb questions at all.

I heard the lens on the 6030 is a huge upgrade but do the zoom, focus, shift, adjustments still feel sloppy or are they tighter?

One other question-was watching movie last night and couldn't understand where this mechanical noise was coming from. Tonight I was watching and I set the auto iris to off, rather than high where I had originally placed it and the noise was gone. Should it be that noticeable (projector is right over our seating area)? Also, it seems the default settings have the iris "off"-if I leave it off am I going to be giving up those great black levels everybody talks about with these projectors?
Thanks again for helping.

I would not pay anyone to set it up for me. You should be able to do it yourself. First thing is to find out what devices are IP controllable to make your life easier. If not you will need to buy some Global Cache units or Itach flex's and do it over IR to IP or RS232 to IP. The lights would you would need some setup, I am using the ISY 994i with some insteon adapter and then the modules for the lights, etc. I haven't had a chance to work on the security camera yet nor the Epson projector RS232

I've had Epson projectors in the past (sloppy lens controls along with dust blobs which made me steer clear of them) can someone please tell me if there has been an improvement in the 6030? I hear the QC is much better on the 6030 and although some say there are only minor differences between the 5030 & 6030, (color, Anamorphic mode) I've heard that the 6030 goes through a better QC process and parts selection....So can I get some feed back from an owner?

Interestingly, I came across this information while looking for My A lens and was totally unsolicited ... so how do the owners of the 6030 feel??? I plan on buying one in the next month or two.

BTW, the local Magnolia does not have a display so I can't examine for myself....

Thank you.

My 6030 has very good convergence and focus. Better then any JVC or Sony I've owned. I've also heard that the 6030 goes through extra quality control. Its a no brainer if u can get a deal on a 6030.

Hopefully you'll still have your 6030 when your Sony 500 arrives so you can let us know how the two compare in 2D and especially 3D. BTW Epson's 5020 and Sony's 500 were on AVForums rather short best of 2013 list (only 5 projectors).

I might have both but I'm trying to sell stuff before I get the 500. I'm liking the 6030 a lot. Every time I turn it on, I start questioning if I should just keep it and forget the 500. Lol

Had a few serious buyers but people tend to be very flaky this time of year. Not in a crazy rush to sell. I will say for a fact that the 6030 is better then the Sony 50es for 2d and 3d. The optical sharpness of the 6030 is very good. I think they Definetly improved the lens.

Yeah the iris makes a low grumbling sound. Hasn't bothered me to much and only really noticeable on quiet scenes. The contrast without the iris engaged is still very good. I toggled it on and off and the blacks are great without it. Iris are overrated in my opinion.

I'm having the same problem. I have a 6010 and 6020 and I have to say the 2D is really, really good -- hard to fault. Gosting in 3D really bothers me and I've given up on the Epson for 3D and I'm now using both the Sharp 30000 and a Mits HC8000 for 3D duties and they are amazing for 3D. Until Sony, JVC and Epson can get 3D right (like my $500 Acer did) I'm sticking with a two projector solution, unless of course I go nuts and buy a Sim2 M.150 LED DLP projector. biggrin.gif

Can someone tell me if the 6030 will vertically stretch the picture in 3D mode or is it only in 2D.

If you dont mind could you tell me how does the 2d picture quality compare between the hc8000 and the epson and is the 3d bright enough on the 8000? Thanks for any response.

Just a heads up here. I went to Best Buy in Richfield Mn today to demo some projectors and got to see the 6030. The salesman said they had 2 6030's, both brand new, one an open boxed item for $1000 off. He quoted me $2500. I'm not ready to take the plunge yet, but if your in the area and ready to buy, what a heck of a deal.

Thanks for asking. I have ruled out this pj and will be getting the Sony 55ES. About to put the lens in the classifieds here based on going back to 16x9 screen. The lens is from hometheaterbros.com and will list for $400.

I'm getting my Epson 6030 in a couple weeks and would also like to hear what settings people are using?   I hope I made the right decision as I was deciding between the SONY & the Epson and went w/ the Epson because of the extra throw distance it had.

Does anyone from Epson ever post on here or does anyone have direct contact info for someone in Tech support who could help w/ this info?

I did a lot of research and dropped a lot of $$ (as we all did) getting a 115" Screen Innovations Black Diamond zero edge w/ this projector so I'm hoping it all works well together.

Some nice folks on the 5030 thread have posted their pro-calibrated settings.

Edit due to me changing my mind.

Originally I chose the 6030 with the intentions of adding an a-lense. I will have a 2.4 screen since we primarily will watch movies on the pj. I am saving up for the Panasonic AE8000 now unless it takes longer than expected and a new model comes out or Epson decides to include power lens shift and zoom this year. I will probably hold out until this fall when new models are announce before making my decision. If there are minimal changes to both I will try and pick up the 8000 for cheap.

Hi All:
I presently have a 6020UB with approximately 210 hrs. on it. Based on the information I have been reading in this forum I am tempted to upgrade to the 6030 projector. My problem, I would need to find a dealer who would take mine as a tread-in. My question is: Does any one out there know of any dealer/s that is doing trade-ins/upgrade deals?
Thanks
