please advise

Hi all,

Considering buying a Sony VPL-HW55ES projector for general entertainment purposes (gaming, movies, etc). Based some reviews of the projector, it seems to have an input lag that ranges between 26ms and 32ms, just wondering if these values are low enough for gaming on the xbox one and ps4. I have an epson tw9200 and it supposedly has an input lag of 64ms, which makes it quite hard to play fps games like cod and halo.

Please advise.

Thanks!

The Sony is one of the better choices for a multipurpose projector for movies and gaming.

That's exactly what mine is for and its perfect. You won't notice the input lag. It's minor.

I've been using mine this week to play the Master Chief Collection on Xbox One with no problems at all.

Wow that's a relief, I might order one then. Just another question though, does gaming mode effect the quality of the image (sharpness, detail, etc) to a very noticeable degree?

Game mode is adjustable so mine looks very similar to my reference mode. There might be some subtle differences but they are not noticeable

What's the best way to clean the front of the lens....with some home made solution, cotton balls, lint free cloth, etc....?

Does anyone know if the black contrast filter tuning kit works for the HW50ES?
Has anyone else used the filter tuning kit with successful results?

Me too! I'm sure there has to be a slight decline in picture quality or some other side effect. But very interested in learning more.

Also I take it this "Kit" (or filter) is only available in Germany?

Are you guys not happy with the black level from the 55ES? With just the settings from the projectorreviews.com review, they look great here. I watched "Sin City-A Dame To Kill For" Saturday and the black levels were excellent.

I just bought the HW55 also and I am so happy with my purchase . I really struggled with my choice between the HW40, HW55, Epson 7200 and 9200. I watch my movies in a dedicated Home Theater, so fully darkened.

The Sony was a quick choice because of the 3yr warranty, quietness PJ and Iris, SXRD. After that I had to choose between the HW40 and the HW55. I adjusted the Iris manual to minimal and the blacklevels were stunning. On the HW40 the blacklevels were a little bit disappointing in dark scenes. I made a great deal with the dealer (PS4 and 3d glasses excluded from the deal) and picked it up with a reasonable discount. Also with a ISF calibration form the start and 3 calibration in the future.

How do you guys set up the following;

Auto Iris?
I set it up at manual and full low

Reality Creation?
Mostly off, because the faces are so hard, even on the lowest level

Motion?
Because of the 24p material I previously really disliked pans with high contrast on my plasma televisions. With this setting turned on LOW, I really enjoy the movie without any soap-opera effect or other artifacts.

Hi everyone!!

I've had the Sony VPL HW55ES for about 6 months now and I love it. Its our dedicated HT/ TV room. I did some minor tweaking to the calibration in the beginning but was wondering if any had some calibration recommendations or maybe any links to sites that have some. I know that everyone has a different eye for whats best but something general would be appreciated.

This projector is awesome!!!

A little impression from today,

Today i got the filter and this evening we did a succesfull calibration.
First the product itself:

The product fits perfect on the sony lens and looks good.

After we placed the filter you saw directly that the lumen output got worse,
But gladly the sony has enough lumens to spare.

So this we could compensate easy.
For calibration details i cant comment thats a part of the guy who did it for me.

Ofcourse where the colors way off before the calibration, but after they where good again.

After watching some of my favourite scenes i can comment that indeed the black level is better(as was this already very good on the sony)

So if you wanne push the sony to its limits then this is a nice option.

Or two?

It is probably a well made Skylight filter for cutting any haze that may be illuminating the lowest IREs

Anyone have a large skylight filter to try?

So 199 Euro is ~$234.00 USD, who is in for these? I am definitely in for one. A 20-30% improvement in black level will be a welcome increase in my pitch black cave.

There may be a cost on black crush. Also I don't see anything about what it does to lumen output, I'm gonna wait for hands on results personally. Also why is this only for the Sony projectors? Seems to me it should fit over any lens.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I dont think it is just for Sony.
It should be some kind of a general filter like the nd filters.
