I like that idea, I'll run it in high lamp tonight and see what happens. Failing that I'll open it up and check for oxidation.

I'm in Canada as well and when I bought mine last year, the list was what I said it was. I didn't know it jumped a $1000 since then. Other than the 5% GST, no tax where I am, nor in Alberta.

I don't understand how this projector could jump in price so significantly like that. Demand maybe? It's unreal that someone could pay $2000 more than what I did, just over a year ago. Insane.

hey guys,

any rumours of a HW55-replacement?

seems that some stores here in Europe (The Netherlands) are slashing prices.

in one example down to €2440 from €3000......thats a €560 discount.

That price could be due to their "Summerdeals"-special but it seems that the HW55 price is slowly coming down.

any thoughts?

Here in the US, the 55 is still SURE price protected.

Seems sony will be having a "yoohoo big summer blow out".

JVC has cut their X500 below the current price of a HW55. Sony on their turn dives under that price with a substantial difference.

In euro's

HW55 €3000........summerdeal €2550
X500 €2800

cash discount is a lot more welcome than trying to sell a "free" playstation 4, like Sony's last deal with the HW55.

The PS4 was easy to sell for me.
I bought my HW55 for 2700euro's in november (I received a 10% exhibition discount) and sold the PS4 for 300euro's. After putting it for sale online I had 4 buyers within the hour for that price.

So in the end I only paid 2400euro's for my HW55 and that was more than a half year ago

dat is een bekende nickname Broodroostert ;-)

i am aware of your example, but in my case i couldn't do this with your 10% discount-price because that price is no longer available.

it's also the case that it is my personal preference to have a cash discount than to recieve extra's.

Indeed ^^
I know, I'd also prefer a cash discount, but since I already received one for the exhibition, I couldn't get more. Well, maybe a 100euro's, but the PS4 is worth a lot more, but you have to spend some time selling it. Fortunately, mine was gone very quickly.

Length, width and ceiling height?
Color of walls and ceiling?
What ambient light from outside the room, gets into the room (windows/glass doors)?
Are you wanting much if any lights on viewing?

Walls: dark brown, ceiling: matte weight, room isnt big, as my top size for the screen is 80 inches, one window, blocked almost entirely, best for sports but respecting the blacks this projector is capable of (sorry for my english, im from Mexico)

At that size, I would look at something below 1.0 gain and since you have a white ceiling, gray based.

Can anyone comment on the realities of manually adjusting zoom/positioning with the HW55ES when switching between 2.35 and 1.78 content? I am trying to decide on my first projector and will be using it for mixed content, so I will probably be switching it back and forth at least a few times per week.

I'm sure there is an initial learning curve but once you are familiar with the unit how long does it take to make the manual adjustments? 30 seconds? 2 minutes? 10 minutes? More?

Thanks.

Why Zoom? Are you trying to hide the letterboxing?

I decided on a 16:9 screen and DIY masking to 2.35:1, etc. I haven't regreted it to date.

Sorry, guess I should have specified this was for a 2.35:1 screen and my concern is about the effort in re-adjusting the zoom and positioning for 16:9 content (and then back again for 2.35:1 content).

You might consider a new lens that Panamorph is looking to produce if there is enough interest. A thread will be started shortly.

Thanks, that is one route for sure.

I would still like to hear from someone that could answer my original question about manually switching between 2.35 and 1.78 content on a 2.35 screen.

Manually switching by using the zoom lens ? It can be done, but it's way easier with a projector that has power zoom and focus.

You will have to be able to physically get to the projector and adjust the zoom and lens shift, each and every time you switch from 1.78 to 2.35. If you are a channel surfer, you will get a nice workout, especially if your projector is ceiling mounted. I have know a few guys that had their manual lens projectors mounted on a coffee table right in front of them, that did not mind it too much, but that is the only way, I would consider doing CIH with a manual lens projector.

Not an owner yet, but planning to be one soon.

Any owners using a Stewart Grayhawk with their 55?

Pretty sure I'm going to go with the 55 and I THINK my Greyhawk will look good, but wondering if someone here has seen the two together.

Looks like I can keep my existing mount position as well, so that's a plus.

Hoping that with new models on the way, we'll start seeing some discounting on the 55. My strike date is early October.

There are rumours that the HW65 will be released in October so could go that route.
Or get a HW55 for a nice price :-)
