Some of us would probably put black tape over it or at least some neutral density material if it didn't.

When a projector has great on/off CR it doesn't make a lot of sense to shine an unnecessary LED at the screen when showing material. For example, IIRC it flashes when hide is enabled and goes off when it isn't.

FYI, for anyone buying a JVC projector, if you see a black dot near the UPC that means it shipped with a factory firmware update. Not sure if that has been discussed anyplace so I thought I would share.

That is classified. If I told you, I would have to ask you to delete your AVSforum account and never speak of AV products again. tongue.gif

I received my 4910 today. It did not come with the new firmware installed. I'm coming from a 4810 and I am extremely disappointed with the sharpness of the 4910 compared to my 4810.It seems to me that mpc adjustment s aren't doing any pq improvement what so ever.Did anyone who installed the latest firmware notice any improvement in sharpness.I also had my first hdmi glitch. If this is as good as it's going to look I would had never bought this thing.

I must add that it seems to be getting better as time goes on, perhaps the bulb needs to be broken in.

Thats great, Hopefully this week I will here something. I should be totally blown away, because the projector I am replacing is 10 years old. A Sony VPL-HS10. Which has performed like a trooper for all those years, replacing only one bulb as it is not the main use for TV in the house, mainly only Movies.

Hey, I had a VPL-HS10! I was actually getting ready to sell it a few years ago and fired it up just to make sure it was still working and unfortunately it had blue and magenta squiggles all over the screen.

Anyway, the RS4910 is a huge, HUGE step up from the HS10. You'll love it.

I've had the X-500 for a week and have not had any problems. It replaced an HD-350.
It is installed an a 15x20 dedicated room with controlled lighting on a SI 1.4 gain screen.
All i need now is the emiitter and glasses.
Are panasonic active shutter glasses compatible with the PK-EM2 emitter?

Oh and it did come with the latest firmware update too.

Will have it calibrated once i put about 250 hours on it.

thanks

I've been reading and rereading this thread trying to get a feeling for excitment over picture quality. I'm seeing mostly problem solving comments for this projector.

It seems that buying this projector means you are asking for a large pain in your buttocks.

The pain continues until you get it working at a level that you can talk yourself out of self hate for buying this projector.

Am I wrong?

I want to upgrade my Epson projector (8 year old 1080P). For the price am I better off forgetting this JVC projector and stay with an Epson 5030 or 6030?

Thanks for any/all opinions.

i have been on this forum for a loooong time now and the first valuable thing I learned is you take what you read here with a grain of salt!

A lot of times in a thread like this one 99 percent of the people won't post positives but you will get a small percentage of problems.

I'm not saying people aren't having some issues but jvc has been working to fix them, my unit is firmware updated and has work flawless.

Trust me this pj is the real deal, image quality is stunning, build is one of the best out there.

Just buy it,keep off the forums and enjoy this bad ass pj:)

I'm going to be contacting URC to ask them to add the codes for this years models.

Can someone who upgraded from one of last year's models give me a list of what needs to be added?

Thanks

Like what Ultra 150 Pilot said, most of these posts are because there was a problem or because people who have a problem come to the thread for help. Most of the time people who don't have a problem are too busy enjoying the projector to post. smile.gif I have the 4910 and with the new firmware installed (from the factory) it works flawless and the pictures is crazy good. Did a side by side comparison with an RS46 and the 4910 blew it away. Granted I've only had mine for a week, but I have ZERO problems, ZERO complaints and I am currently in love with this projector. The picture quality, black levels, and reliability (so far and remember I have the newest firmware update) is outstanding.

If you are looking to buy and want to ask any specific questions or more details about my use, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Hello All,
While still awaiting the arrival of my DLA-X500R I was wondering if the ethernet wire is that important? I am not to computer saavy and was wondering what that wire would actually do. Also, how are the firmware upgrades done? Any help is appreciated, thanks, Andy

The Ethernet port isn't that important if you don't already have a network cable run to your locations and do not plan on using an IP based controller. It's more of a nice to have or a just in case. Personally, for as long as you are waiting for your projector, you should tell the store you ordered through to make sure it comes from the factory with the new firmware update. Are you outside the US? I am curious why you haven't received your projector yet.

I'm double posting this here (and on the X700 thread) because it's the more active JVC thread:

Is anyone finding the 3D syncing of the glasses finicky?

I'm using the supplied RF emitter and the new RF glasses, and it often takes several tries, and several minutes, of hitting the power button on the glasses to finally get sync. And only 2 of my 3 glasses are syncing. One I can't even get to sync at all yet.

Never had any of these issues with the IR glasses on my RS55, and RF was supposed to make these things more reliable.

Any advice?

Thanks,

I had both an RS4910 and an RS57 with the new firmware in my theater - I never had any issues with HDMI. DISH and an Oppo BDP103 running through a Denon 4520 - worked the same as my Sim Lumis. I always turn on the Denon and a source prior to turning on the projector. Switching back and forth from different sources or swapping out Blu Rays during my demo - no problems.
