This with with the older models, not this years, which features a significantly different gamma setup. I was planning on putting a new bulb in my projector in the next week and dialing it in. I'll give your stuff a try and see how it turns out.
I would be very interested in hearing what you find out!
On a side note, I've wondered if the JVC's are tuned in the service menu a bit for the stock lamp. I know there are some offsets preset in the service menu and I wonder if that is why the stock lamps I have seen have been so much easier to flatten grayscale and come OOTB pretty close.
