Wow, I didn't think the lens cover COULD get any louder.

As with so many "upgrades" it's often give with one hand, take with the other it seems.

That last comment is quite something.

Do you have the website link of the original article in French

"What happens when you remove the Denon out of the chain (go directly from the PS4)??"

When the hook the ps3 /ps4 directly to the Jvc I get the same drop in video as I do when the denon processor is still in the chain. When the denon is in the chain I at least get audio so I know the denon is still outputting. I just hooked up my rs46 and without changing any settings in the ps3 /ps4 or denon I get blu ray to play just fine. So the only variable changed is the new Jvc rs57..... I did attempt to turn it off and unplugged the power and HDMI cable and try again after a cool down period (for both the projector and myself) and the same thing happened. I know Jvc did some changes to their HDMI on these new models (at least I remember reading some technical babel on it in the other thread) so maybe the new Jvc HDMI simply doesn't like my old 1.3b HDMI cable. What are you all running your color space setting on?

The link was posted earlier in the thread. It's a french forum I believe:

I took the quote from a following comment, in the next page (12)

That is ******** and JVC Fandboy Talk.

I've seen both devices in comparison.
The Sony device is by far sharpener with native 4K as the unit of JVC.
Also, the punch and the brightness is better at Sony.

One should not compare apples with pears and talk nicely.

I am also owner of a JVC projector ... but this statement I share not wink.gif

I might agree with the PS4 but also the PS3… not so much.

Did you change the PS3's output resolution down to 480p? Try that and report back. Do you have another BD player not starting with PS? wink.gif

Oh and… Auto for Cspace.

So you've compared the RS57/X700 against the Sony and it was "far" sharper?

I have only seen both briefly, but I have to call BS on that as well, or at the very least take it with a HUGE grain of salt. tongue.gif Nothing against the JVCs as I am a fan for 2d and have owned three now, but the Sony was a step up to my eyes (as it should be for the price).

Thanks for all the reports though everyone (nice work Kevin!)! Thinking about maybe grabbing a used or b-stock 4910 or 57 a year from now possibly (or maybe something else as well), so am really enjoying reading all the reports.

57 is here, I'll dig in later tonight with some baselines and then take a look at the 55 vs 57 in a direct A/B w/ split source. I have a new lamp for the 55 I'll use to be fair.

I'll post info in the shoot-out thread so we don't clog up the owners thread. I'll also take a look at the 600 / 57 stack as well. I have some nice UHD/4K content to feed both projectors.

I tend to agree - this is why I was wondering seating distance to screen size ratio - sitting 30ft away from a 80" screen perhaps they might prefer the JVC! But then, sharpness/resolution is only part of the overall image so you can't totally dismiss the comments. And how well was the Sony set up? We don't know. Looking forward to Zombie's head to head - facts, descriptions in English, photographs - Zombie does a great job of describing the differences.

I am very curious to read about this comparison in particular for 2d. I did not have the luxury of seeing both side by side, same screen, same material, etc.....which could obviously change my opinion to some degree.

Did you see any 4K movies or blu rays on both machines? I seen some 4K clips and they were really nice. Compare that to a movie and I saw a significant difference. But that was only at the store watching stills and short clips on the Samsung 4K TV compared to a 4K Sony TV running clips of their movies on the server. The Samsung looked much better even though the Sony was also 4K. Jason should be able to let us know more 4k vs 4k and upscaled 2k vs upscaled 2k. I wouldn't think the JVC will be better but I wouldn't think it would blow it away.

Ahh sorry I assumed since you were posting in this owners thread…

You can still play around with any of the color profiles but STD or any USER settings to start and use a calibration disc like AVS709 or any other you prefer (at the very least get your grayscale correct then color/tint). smile.gif

I just saw both briefly at Cedia (spent about an hour with the JVCs and demoed the Sony for 15 minutes). The JVCs were playing some 4k content and the Sony demo showed both 4k content and upscaled blu ray. Lots of variables, but the Sony was being displayed on a bigger and lower gain screen (13' wide ST130 G3) vs the RS67 (11' wide 1.5 gain screen IIRC) and looked brighter, sharper and just plain better. Again though, lots of variables which is why I am very curious to read Zombies report watching the same material, same screen, etc.........

^^^ biggrin.gif This is going to be fun. I remember the club that you guys and several other members casually created with the RS50 and 60 discussions and our first 3D with JVC. This will be that, but you guys are so much more tech capable and knowledgeable a couple years later. Looking forward to it!

That would be great if I could get a picture today! No matter what I try I get no video on either HDMI (whether hooking up direct to my DirecTV HR24 DVR or thru the Denon/Lumagen/Darbee combo I have on HDMI-1. Powered off each device in different orders but Nothing!

Weird thing is whenever I unplug the HDMI from the 57 I get the last video frame sent from the receiver showing on the screen (frozen), without the cable being plugged in! eek.gifeek.gifeek.gif

The other oddity/frustration is when the video is blank on the 57 input you can also not get any of the menus to come up onscreen!

Mark/Chris . . . HELP us! Let me know if you want me to call you or if you can get on the horn to JVC to figure out the issue please!

OH NO!!!! I hope this is not going to be the norm... frown.gif Seriously feel for you.

JVC fix this ASAP.

Unplug the projector for at least 10 mins. Then plug back in and try again.

krichter1 keep your spirits up. I know this is probably very frustrating.

I did power cycle the projector again and unplug the HDMI and power cables for a few moments and then tried it again and Wolllla everything is working now! I was about to go into Hulk rage mode when the wife suggested that I try it again, it being the power cycle and unplugging the unit. While it seems to be working at the moment I'm still rather concerned with the fact that I had this problem in the first place and I'm wondering if something is wrong with JVC software / HDMI. I too was seeing the last image frozen on the Jvc when turning of my input sources.

Are you getting entire screen flashes of various colors as well? I was getting a lot of solid images of nothing but magenta.

I have some nice UHD/4K content to feed both projectors.

Fantastic I can't wait to read your assessment!

Well, given the early issues we are seeing one thing I've decided on: even if I get my RS57 today or tomorrow, I sure as heck am not going to replace my RS55 with it yet. I've got a big UFC party planned tomorrow and the last thing I'd need is the screen going blank or getting no picture for the fights. Certainly not a time to deal with technical bugs.

I see several people are having the same problem as I did in my first post (no video from any source through either input). I turned the projector off and waited until the red light was solid (fan stopped) then unplugged and plugged right back in. that's all it took. it would be interesting to determine the change that causes this problem. when i unboxed my PJ, I turned it on without any source connected to do my initial zoom and shift so it would be easier to see the on screen menu when I mounted it on the ceiling. After mounting, I connected sources and turned it on - to my surprise no picture. I will never be able to get back the half hour of panic until I did what I tell my friends when they have a PC or DVR problem - when in doubt - reboot!
